Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will make an appearance on national television during Memorial Day Weekend.
Darnold, along with Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, will be interviewed by Tony Romo for a CBS special feature, “In the Huddle with Tony Romo.” The 30-minute special will be hosted by CBS Sports lead reporter Tracy Wolfson and will air on Sunday, May 24 at 2 p.m. EST.
The special will feature Romo discussing Xs and Os with the three young quarterbacks, as well as what it has been like preparing for the 2020 season in a virtual setting and the leap from being a rookie quarterback to a second-year signal caller. Life outside of football will also be discussed.
Romo has had plenty of nice things to say about Darnold since he entered the league in 2018. Darnold’s sophomore season did not go as expected due to a bout with mononucleosis and somewhat inconsistent play upon his return. However, it’s safe to assume Romo still has high hopes for New York’s franchise quarterback considering what he has said about him in the past.
“I just think he’s got that thing the great ones have,” Romo said at the NFL on CBS Media Day last year. “The ability to process information very quickly, and his spatial awareness. Some call it ‘the it’ factor, feel, whatever you want to see. He sees angles quicker than other people. His brain allows him to do certain things because of that. I told you guys last year, he’s going to be a good one.”
Soon enough, Romo will have the opportunity to dive deeper into Darnold’s football mind with the whole country watching. With year three looming as an important one for the USC product, Jets fans will get a unique look at where their quarterback is at mentally heading into 2020.
