The Michigan State Track and Field team painted The Rock in East Lansing to honor fallen track and field athlete Tony Martin.

For those who do not know, 19-year-old Michigan State track and field athlete Tony Martin passed away after being shot in a gas station shooting in Saginaw just a few days ago. This incredibly tragic story has touched the hearts of current and former MSU athletes.

The Michigan State track and field team painted The Rock in East Lansing in remembrance of Tony. They painted The Rock all-white with the phrase “Long Live Tony” and even placed track shoes at the base.

Saginaw resident and Michigan State Track standout Tony Martin has passed away after being shot in a Saginaw gas station.

According to a report confirmed by the Detroit Free Press, 19-year-old Michigan State Track and Field athlete Tony Martin has tragically passed away after being shot in a gas station shooting in Saginaw. The shooting occurred early on Sunday morning at about 2am at a Sunoco gas station. His high school coach DeEddie Sanders confirmed the news with the Free Press earlier today.

Martin was a standout both in high school and at Michigan State, breaking the state’s long jump record with a jump of 26 feet, 6 inches. This was the seventh-longest outdoor jump ever and tied Carl Lewis’ best.

This is devastating news and we send our condolences to the family and loved ones of Tony Martin.
