Former Texas A&M senior CB Tony Grimes flips commitment from Michigan State to UNLV

Then on Sunday, he announced via X that he would be “coming to the West Coast soon,” and has committed to play at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

2020 5-star prospect Tony Grimes has flipped from his initial decision in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The former Texas A&M senior cornerback entered the portal on New Year’s Day after spending a year in Bryan-College Station. Before choosing the Aggies in the portal, he spent three years in Chapel Hill, North Carolina playing for the Tarheels.

Grimes initially chose Michigan State as his next destination on Jan. 7. However, on Saturday he posted a video on X that alluded to his upcoming decision to flip from the Spartans.

Then on Sunday, he announced via X that he would be “coming to the West Coast soon,” and has committed to play at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Grimes played three seasons at the University of North Carolina from 2020 to 2022 before coming to College Station. While in Chapel Hill, he tallied 97 tackles, 20 pass breakups and an interception.

The senior defensive back dealt with injuries during his tenure with the Aggies, limiting his playing time at Kyle Field. After taking a redshirt season in 2023, Grimes transfers to the Rebels program with one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.

The senior defensive back dealt with injuries during his tenure with the Aggies, limiting his playing time and leading to a redshirt season.

2020 5-star prospect Tony Grimes has chosen Michigan State as his next home via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The former Texas A&M senior cornerback announced his decision with a since-deleted X post on Sunday evening. Grimes posted a clip from the movie 300 in which Gerard Butler’s character screams, “This is Sparta!”

Justin Thind, the Michigan State reporter for 247Sports, posted about the news nearly simultaneously with Grimes’ original X post. Grimes reposted the report, basically confirming the news.

Grimes played three seasons at the University of North Carolina from 2020 to 2022 before coming to Bryan College Station. While in Chapel Hill, he tallied 97 tackles, 20 pass breakups and an interception.

Michigan State football is having an awesome day in the portal.

The Spartans added another big-time transfer portal commitment on Sunday, with former North Carolina and Texas A&M cornerback Tony Grimes committing in the evening. Grimes was the third transfer portal commit of the day for the Spartans.

Grimes is a former five-star cornerback in the 2020 class. Grimes was ranked as the No. 5 cornerback and No. 48 in the 2020 class.

He originally committed to North Carolina and starred for the Tar Heels secondary for three years where he played in 36 games. He transferred to Texas A&M last offseason but never took the field for the Aggies this past year.

Michigan State football could be nearing a commitment for another big-time transfer portal target.

Former five-star cornerback Tony Grimes is being predicted to end up at Michigan State out of the transfer portal. A trio of crystal ball predictions for Grimes in favor of the Spartans were submitted on Sunday morning following his weekend official visit.

Grimes was the No. 5 cornerback and No. 48 in the 2020 class. He originally committed to North Carolina and starred for the Tar Heels secondary for three years where he played in 36 games. He transferred to Texas A&M last offseason but never took the field for the Aggies this past year.
