Broncos cut several players immediately after Tuesday’s practice

The NFL can be a brutal business.

The NFL can be a brutal business.

NFL teams were required to reduce their rosters from 90 players down to 53 players by 2 p.m. MT on Tuesday. The Denver Broncos scheduled a practice for noon and post-practice press conferences for coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton for right after practice just before the cutdown deadline.

So, players who attended Tuesday’s practice might have reasonably assumed if they made it to practice, they made it to the 53-man roster.

That wasn’t the case.

Immediately after practice, Denver cut defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile and wide receiver Michael Bandy, according to the Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson. Both players were on the field just minutes before being cut.

Such is life in the NFL.

Fortunately for Bandy and Laulile, both players will likely be candidates to return on the practice squad if they clear waivers on Wednesday.

We are tracking all of the Broncos’ roster cuts on this page.

Broncos made 2 roster moves on Wednesday

The Broncos signed defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile and waived long snapper Jack Landherr on Wednesday.

The Denver Broncos made two roster moves on Wednesday ahead of their joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams.

First, the team signed defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2018. Laulile (6-3, 300 pounds) has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.

Laulile played in the USFL in 2022 before a stint in the XFL in 2023. He totaled nine tackles and one pick-six while playing for the Arlington Renegades this spring.

To make room for Laulile on the 90-man offseason roster, Denver made a second move and waived long snapper Jack Landherr. That leaves Mitchell Fraboni as the lone long snapper remaining on the roster.

The Broncos also reached an injury settlement with kicker Elliott Fry on Tuesday. Fry has been removed from the team’s injured reserve list and he is now a free agent. Fry previously reverted to IR after he was waived/injured and cleared waivers last week.

Denver will have another joint practice with the Rams on Thursday ahead of their preseason showdown on Saturday night.

49ers sign DL Tomasi Laulile after workout

The #49ers brought in another defensive lineman following Arik Armstead’s injury.

The 49ers on Friday announced the addition of defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile to their offseason roster. He’s the second defensive tackle they’ve added from a three-player workout just ahead of training camp. Robert Nkemdiche also joined the club after that workout.

Laulile will give the 49ers an additional player on the interior defensive line with defensive tackle Arik Armstead out a few weeks with a knee sprain.

The 27-year-old entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted rookie with the Indianapolis Colts. They let him go at final roster cuts that year, and the Saints acquired him for their practice squad shortly after that. He spent the 2018 season on New Orleans’ practice squad before they let him go during the 2019 offseason. He’s yet to appear in a regular season game.

Laulile be with the team during Friday’s practice. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows noted Laulile was wearing No. 55, which belonged to the recently-released Dee Ford.

The newest 49er spent four college seasons at BYU and played in 33 games with 47 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
