Sarkisian has helped the Crimson Tide become an offensive juggernaut in the last two seasons, with Alabama scoring 49.7 points per game, good for second in the FBS.
As a head coach at Washington and USC, Sarkisian posted a record of 46-35.
In four seasons in Austin, Herman failed to live up to expectations, putting up a 32-18 record and 22-13 in the Big 12.
