Troy Weaver may have competition for Pistons general manager job
There are believed to be three viable candidates for the Detroit Pistons general manager job, including Troy Weaver.
On Sunday night, the New York Times’ Marc Stein reported that Thunder front office lifer Troy Weaver was believed to be the favorite to be hired by the Detroit Pistons to fill their general manager opening.
Weaver, who has been with the franchise for 10 years, who be the second high-profile loss that the Thunder would suffer this season, as scout Frank Zanin left for the New York Knicks after spending four years with Oklahoma City.
For those hoping that Presti’s staff doesn’t suffer another loss, though, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski delivered some additional news with respect to the Pistons opening.
According to Wojnarowski, aside from Weaver, Detroit also has registered interest in two other candidates: Mark Hughes and Jeff Peterson. The two each serve as assistant general managers for the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets, respectively.
ESPN Sources: Three serious candidates have emerged for the Detroit Pistons GM job: Clippers assistant GM Mark Hughes, Nets assistant GM Jeff Peterson and Thunder VP of Basketball Operations Troy Weaver. Those conversations are continuing this week.

It comes as no surprise that the Pistons’ search seems to be intensifying, as Detroit is one of only eight teams whose season ended prematurely. The franchise has struggled to find success over the past 10 years, qualifying for the playoffs just twice and last winning a playoff series in 2008.
