Timberwolves at Nuggets picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 124, Timberwolves 114

Moneyline

AVOID.

Betting on the Nuggets (-320) isn’t worth the risk considering the minimal profit you’ll receive if they win.

Against the spread

NUGGETS -8.5 (-102) is where I’m leaning with how Denver has been playing recently. The Timberwolves won’t have an answer for C Nikola Jokic and there’s a chance they are without Edwards, Gobert, and Towns.

The Nuggets are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

Over/Under

Assuming the Nuggets have Jokic available on the 2nd leg of a back-to-back, OVER 236.5 (-115) is an intriguing bet. Denver is the 2nd in offensive rating while Minnesota is ranked 18th.

The Timberwolves have hit the Over in 5 of their last 6 road games and the Nuggets have hit the Over in 5 straight games on 0 days of rest.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (43-34) head to the Mile High City Friday for a pivotal game with the Denver Nuggets (46-31). Tip-off at Ball Arena is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Nuggets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Minnesota is 3 games behind Denver for the sixth and final non-play-in seed in the Western Conference with five games remaining. A loss to the Nuggets Friday will likely mean the play-in tourney for the Timberwolves.

The T-Wolves have lost four of their last five games — 1-4 against the spread (ATS) — including back-to-back road games at the Boston Celtics Sunday (134-112) and the Toronto Raptors Wednesday (125-102).

The Nuggets are 4-1 straight up (SU) and 2-3 ATS in their last five games and have won three straight versus the Oklahoma City Thunder Saturday (113-107), at the Charlotte Hornets Monday (113-109) and at the Indiana Pacers Wednesday (125-118).

Minnesota 2-1 SU and ATS versus Denver this season and the total is 2-1 Over/Under (O/U).

Timberwolves at Nuggets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 119, Nuggets 116

Money line

LEAN to the TIMBERWOLVES (+125) only because I prefer their spread more.

The gap between Denver big Nikola Jokic and Minnesota big Karl-Anthony Towns isn’t as wide as the gap between KAT’s and Jokic’s supporting casts.

The reason the T-Wolves are 2-1 SU and ATS versus the Nuggets this season is because KAT has outplayed Jokic in Minnesota’s two victories. KAT has a much better true shooting percentage and net rating than Jokic in their three head-to-head meetings.

T-Wolves wing Anthony Edwards is a legit No. 2 scoring option whereas the Nuggets are without Jokic’s best two teammates in Murray and Porter.

Minnesota also has a major strength-on-weakness in ball security. The Timberwolves are second in adjusted defensive turnover rate (TOV%), according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG), and score the most points off of turnovers per game. Denver is 26th in adjusted offensive TOV% (per CTG) and allows the fourth-most points off of turnovers per game.

I prefer Minnesota’s spread but the TIMBERWOLVES (+125) are the right side.

Against the spread

BET the TIMBERWOLVES +3.5 (-115) for 1 unit based on the previous analysis and because there’s been a sharp line move towards Minnesota. The T-Wolves opened as 4.5-point underdogs but have been steamed down to the current number but there’s still value in Minnesota at this price.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 240.5 (-112) as a fade against the massive line movement the total market has seen.

The Timberwolves-Nuggets game opened with a 233.5-point total before it was flooded with Over money because a lot of situational trends point to this being a higher-scoring game.

However, an Over bet on a 240-point total is in peril if either team has an off-shooting quarter or if the game is a blowout. One-sided games kill second-half action.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (12-15) travel to the Ball Arena Wednesday to play the Denver Nuggets (14-13) at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Nuggets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Minnesota ended a five-game losing skid Sunday with a 116-111 win at the Portland Trail Blazers as 3-point road underdogs.

In December, the T-Wolves are 1-5 straight-up (SU), 2-3 ATS and 4-1 O/U with the third-worst efficiency differential (minus-12.2 points per 100 possessions), according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Denver has won back-to-back games at the San Antonio Spurs this past weekend and vs. the Washington Wizards Monday. The Nuggets are 4-3 SU, 4-3 ATS and 6-1 O/U with the 13th-ranked efficiency differential (plus-2.3 points per 100 possessions) this month, per CTG.

The Nuggets have beaten the T-Wolves in 12 straight games, including their first meeting this season, 93-91, Oct. 30 as 1.5-point road underdogs.

Timberwolves at Nuggets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 116, Timberwolves 108

Money line

PASS because the Nuggets (-190) is too expensive for an NBA regular-season favorite – even if Denver has won 12 straight over Minnesota. Also, I only “lean” to the Nuggets laying the points so I wouldn’t risk nearly two-to-one for an outright victory.

Furthermore, the T-Wolves actually have the most efficient 5-man lineup in the NBA (CTG), and it hasn’t been confirmed if Barton and Gordon can play yet for the Nuggets.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the NUGGETS -4.5 (-110) for a half-unit because they’ve owned the T-Wolves since the beginning of 2018-19 and continue to match up very well against Minnesota.

For instance, the T-Wolves attempt the second-most 3-pointers per game and have the 23rd-best 3-point percentage. While the Nuggets are eighth in both 3-pointers allowed per game and 3-point shooting percentage.

Moreover, Minnesota crashes the glass on misses and has the fourth-highest offensive rebounding rate in the Association. But, Denver has the fifth-highest defensive rebounding rate and allows the fewest second-chance points per game.

Most importantly, the T-Wolves looked like a feisty, up-and-coming team entering December but lost their first five games this month, all against teams with a winning record.

Not only is Denver trending better than Minnesota but the Nuggets could also be getting a little healthier for this game.

“LEAN” to the NUGGETS -4.5 (-110) and I’d upgrade that to a “like” if Barton and Gordon are active Wednesday.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 223.5 (-112) because I much prefer the Denver side more than the total, and we are getting to the party way late. According to Pregame.com, the lookahead line for this total was 218 and has already been steamed up by “sharp money“.

Also, the Over has cashed in Minnesota’s last four games and in Denver’s last four games as a favorite. Plus both teams grade below the 50th percentile in transition offense so I don’t expect an up-and-down game.

Timberwolves at Nuggets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nuggets 126, Timberwolves 103

Money line (ML)

Denver is just 2-4 on the season despite making the Western Conference Finals last year. The Nuggets beat Minnesota two days ago. It’s pretty clear the Nuggets are the better team and should have no problem winning back-to-back games against the Timberwolves without Towns.

We just can’t bet a team at -625. PASS and look to the spread for proper value.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Nuggets are double-digit favorites but there is no reason to suggest Minnesota can keep this game close. Without Towns, the offense is among the worst in the NBA and the defense can’t stop anyone. There will be moments in this game where it might be close, but expect the Nuggets to pull away late and cover this spread.

Take the NUGGETS -10.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Denver’s offense is out to a hot start, averaging 116.0 points per game. Minnesota’s defense won’t offer much resistance and both teams should be able to score well into the 100s. In fact, don’t be surprised if the Nuggets score well into the 120s as their offense has a ton of firepower.

Take the OVER 226.5 (-110).
