Russell Westbrook trade grades: Who won the deal between the Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves?

The Lakers have finally moved on from Russell Westbrook

They’ve finally done it, folks. After trying to ship Russell Westbrook for what feels like an eternity now, the Lakers have finally moved off the Triple-Double King’s massive contract and brought back some players they hope can help.

The Lakers have traded Russell Westbrook and a lightly protected 2027 to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal also involving the Minnesota Timberwolves.

D’Angelo Russell returns to the Lakers after spending a few years traveling around the NBA. Jarred Vanderbilt will also be going to the Lakers along with Russell. The Timberwolves will get Mike Conley Jr. from the deal and Westbrook will be headed to the Jazz — who are expected to buy out the remainder of Westbrook’s contract.

This is the league’s biggest trade yet so far this season and there’s still time left between now and the trade deadline. There may be more to come.

In the meantime, let’s dish out some trade grades.

Anthony Edwards had the perfect attitude after not being selected as an NBA All-Star

There will always be next year, Ant.

Anthony Edwards has built a legitimate case for himself as an All-Star this season. The dude has absolutely been the best player on the Timberwolves in Karl-Anthony Towns absence due to injury.

He’s averaging 24.8 points per game while shooting 46% from the field and 36% from deep. Over his last 10 games he’s actually shooting nearly 40% from 3-point range and has been a more efficient scorer.

Not only that, but the Timberwolves are in the Western Conference’s playoff picture after a slow start to their season and it’s been mostly because of him. And, on top of that, he’s got to be one of the best teammates in the NBA.  That’s not a guarantee for the All-Star game but, again, there’s a case.

So when he wasn’t picked, Edwards could’ve easily just complained about it and started making his case publicly. He didn’t do that, though.

Instead, when asked about it, he shrugged it off.

“I knew I wasn’t going to get in. I was more surprised De’Aaron Fox didn’t get in…I mean, I’m just never the one that’s selected for things like that. I’ve got to go above and beyond and I will next year, so. I ain’t tripping.”

This isn’t necessarily anything we haven’t heard before from other players, but it’s just cool to hear a 21-year-old Anthony Edwards take such a mature stance on this when there are veteran players out there who absolutely wouldn’t.

He’ll get to the All-Star game one day. Until then, it’ll still be fun watching him eat hot fries and dunk all over people.

Austin Rivers’ big fight with Mo Bamba and the Orlando Magic, explained

This fight got ugly fast

What’s going on in the NBA, man? It just seems like tempers are flying everywhere.

On Thursday night it’s Dillon Brooks taking a cheap shot at Donovan Mitchell, which leads into a fight and an eventual (and also rightful!) suspension for Brooks.

The very next night, we get a huge scuffle between Austin Rivers and Mo Bamba that will undoubtedly lead to a few more suspensions. It was such a wild scene. No one saw it coming.

Austin Rivers was by the Orlando Magic bench one second where Bamba was seated and then, next thing you know, the two are both on the ground tussling away.

We only have a few details on what went down, so here’s everything we know so far.

NBA Rumors: Jamal Murray, Reggie Bullock, Lakers, Celtics, Timberwolves

This offseason, several teams in the West have made moves to help themselves strive to be championship contenders.

The Denver Nuggets reshaped their roster and hope the return of Jamal Murray will propel them to title contenders in the West. The Dallas Mavericks look to maintain their standing as a contender following the loss of Jalen Brunson in free agency. The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Rudy Gobert in a blockbuster trade to form a dynamic frontcourt tandem with Karl-Anthony Towns.

With that in mind, the latest HoopsHype intel report includes conversations from the NBA’s Vegas Summer League with Murray on his upcoming return and Mavericks swingman Reggie Bullock discussing how the team will recover from the loss of Brunson. Plus, new updates on the Lakers, Celtics, and Timberwolves.
