Former Auburn coach Tim Horton hired as Air Force running backs coach

Former Auburn running back coach Tim Horton has been hired to same position at Air Force.

Tim Horton is now in charge of one of the best rushing offenses in college football.

On Thursday, Air Force announced the hiring of the former Auburn running backs coach to the same position.

In addition to the running back room, Horton will also be in charge of the Falcons’ special teams.

Air Force led the nation in rushing last season with 305.67 yards per game on the ground.

During his time at Auburn from 2013-18, Horton coached some prolific backs including Heisman finalist Tre Mason, Cameron Artis-Payne and Kerryon Johnson.

Former Auburn RB coach Tim Horton voted into Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame

Tim Horton was the running backs coach for Auburn from 2013-18.

If you have ever met Tim Horton, you know that he is one of the best guys in any business, let alone the football coaching business.

The former Auburn and current Vanderbilt running back coach is now being honored by his home state as he was voted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame 2021 class.

Horton’s time at Auburn from 2013-18 saw some of the best running backs in recent memory including Tre Mason and Kerryon Johnson, helping continue the streak of 1,000-yard rushers for the Tigers until the 2018. He also coached Darren McFadden and Felix Jones at Arkansas during his six-year tenure with the Razorbacks.

Horton was a four-year letterwinner at Arkansas, starting as a split end and punt returner from 1987-89. As a senior captain, Horton earned second-team All-SWC honors after hauling in 23 catches for 453 yards and serving as the team’s top punt returner. During Horton’s Arkansas playing career, the Razorbacks compiled a 38-11 record, won back-to-back SWC titles (1988-89) and appeared in four straight bowl games.
