Tim Corbin: Vols are ‘one of the better teams that I’ve seen in 20 years’

Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin: Vols are ‘one of the better teams that I’ve seen in 20 years’

No. 1 Tennessee (50-7) defeated No. 8 Vanderbilt (36-20), 10-1, Thursday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Following the contest, Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin discussed Tennessee.

“They’re very good in all areas,” Corbin said of Tennessee. “They play with a tremendous amount of confidence, they’re older, they don’t hurt themselves, and they can match up from a pitching standpoint in every area.

“They can go hard and soft, they’re hard guys. They’re very difficult because they command the ball. They command the ball with several different pitches, and they’re attacking. They’re attacking from all areas. I’m not saying just offensively. They’re attacking on the mound, they’re attacking defensively, and they’re attacking offensively. Just one of the better teams that I’ve seen in the 20 years that I’ve been around, without question. Tony (Vitello) has done a good job with them. Their whole staff has.”

Tim Corbin details how ‘it just made sense’ to inspect Jordan Beck’s bat

Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin details how ‘it just made sense’ to inspect Jordan Beck’s bat.

No. 1 Tennessee (25-1, 7-0 SEC) defeated No. 5 Vanderbilt (20-5, 4-3 SEC), 6-2, Friday at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the first inning, Jordan Beck hit a home run for Tennessee. Beck was ruled out as umpires inspected his bat. His bat did not have an approved sticker for Friday’s Vanderbilt game.

The game was televised by ESPN2 with Dave Neal and former Vol Chris Burke on the call.

Following the incident with Beck, Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin discussed the situation with Neal and Burke.

“It has been part of what has been going around during the course of the week in terms of the SEC and us talking about it,” Corbin said. “It has been out there. It just made sense to do that.”
