Auburn-LSU among “must watch” SEC games in 2022

The element of surprise is what makes the Auburn-LSU rivalry so intriguing.

The famous “Tiger Bowl” rivalry between Auburn and LSU is intriguing not only because it pits two of the SEC’s blue bloods together for an annual showdown, but also because it seems that every game provides some sort of College Football historical significance.

Some of the notable games in this series include the 1988 “Earthquake Game”, where the crowd reaction to LSU’s game-winning touchdown registered on the Richter scale, the 1996 “Barn Burner” game where the old sports arena burned during the game, and more recently, last season’s game where Auburn snapped a 10-game losing streak to LSU in Baton Rouge dating back to 1999.

There are many more memorable games between these two programs to name, which is what makes this one of the better rivalries in the SEC.

Pat Dooly of Gators Wire recently listed the 12 best conference games on the 2022 schedule as part of his “Dooly’s Dozen” series. On the list. he ranks this season’s LSU game as the No. 5 most intriguing game of the SEC schedule, for the sole purpose of not knowing what to expect.

Remember when this game was such a big deal? Nobody is really sure what to expect from Auburn and LSU with (Brian) Kelly a mystery as well. All we know is that both teams have players we want to watch play the game.

Although Auburn holds a two-game streak over the Bayou Bengals, LSU leads the overall series 31-24-1 that dates back to 1901, and has been played annually since 1992. The 2022 edition of the Tiger Bowl is set for October 1 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
