Thomas Almeida, Emily Whitmire among 5 fighters no longer on UFC roster

The UFC has parted ways with five fighters, including Thomas Almeida and Emily Whitmire.

Five fighters are no longer on the UFC roster, including a former bantamweight contender.

Multiple people with knowledge of the releases recently informed MMA Junkie of the roster moves but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion hasn’t made an official announcement. The roster changes came to light after the fighters were moved to the “former fighters” section of the UFC’s website (h/t UFC Roster Watch).

Check out the recent UFC departures below. The roster moves, unless explicitly noted, are not necessarily a “cut.” The UFC may have elected not to re-sign certain fighters who were at the end of their contracts.

[autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] successfully rebounded from his first loss on Saturday when he beat [autotag]Thomas Almeida[/autotag] at UFC 260.

O’Malley (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) showed a return to form with a third-round knockout victory over Almeida (21-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) in their featured bantamweight bout, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Check below for the top Twitter reactions to O’Malley beating Almeida at UFC 260.

UFC 260 results: Sean O’Malley blasts Thomas Almeida with violent KO sequence

Sean O’Malley brutally knocked out Thomas Almeida, then pretended to shoot a basketball.

[autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] added another violent highlight to his reel Saturday.

At UFC 260, O’Malley (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) put on a striking clinic for two rounds before he blasted [autotag]Thomas Almeida[/autotag] with a violent knockout sequence late in Round 3.

The bantamweight bout was part of the UFC 260 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

O’Malley set the pace early as he stalked Almeida (22-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) around the cage. Late in Round 1, O’Malley landed a violent head kick on Almeida, who somehow ate it without going down. Immediately thereafter, O’Malley connected with a left hand, which floored Almeida. But the walk-off moment O’Malley expected wasn’t there – yet. Almeida survived the round, but wouldn’t make it to the end of the fight.

After another dominant round from O’Malley in Round 2, the fight ended in Round 3. With less than two minutes left in the round, Almeida moved in and ate a short left hand that sent Almeida tumbling. As Almeida rolled over, seemingly disoriented, he was met by a violent knockout blow.

With the victory, O’Malley re-entered the win column after a loss to Marlon Vera this past August at UFC 252. He added Almeida’s name to a resume that also includes Eddie Wineland, Jose Quinonez, Andre Soukhamthath and Terrion Ware.

For Almeida, the loss was his fourth straight. He has not won a fight since he defeated Albert Morales at UFC Fight Night 100 in November 2016. UFC 260 marked the third time Almeida has lost by knockout in his promotional tenure.

UFC 260 O’Malley vs. Almeida: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: O’Malley 12-1 | Almeida 22-4

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

O’Malley (-350) is a heavy favorite against the Brazilian Almeida (+260) in this battle of 136-pounders. O’Malley has a slight 6.35-to-5.39 advantage in significant strikes landed per minute, while leading 58.47 to 44.40 in significant strikes accuracy percentage.

Since joining the UFC, O’Malley is 3-1, with a pair of KO/TKO victories and a KO/TKO loss in Round 1 against Marlon Vera last time out at UFC 252. Win or lose, each of the past three O’Malley fights ended in Round 1.

On the 5-way line, O’MALLEY BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (-115) is the play for method of victory. Since he has just one submission win in his 13 career fights, you might want to cut out the submission part and look to O’MALLEY BY TKO/KO OR DQ (+120) on the 7-way line.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Due to O’Malley’s recent history, UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (+110) is a good value at plus-money. Each of his past three fights ended in the first round.

Playing NO (-200) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’ is a little expensive, but almost a guarantee to happen, too.

The UFC is back in Las Vegas this week, and the heavyweight title is on the line at the top of the card in a big rematch.

UFC 260 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, heavyweight champion [autotag]Stipe Miocic[/autotag] (20-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) puts his title on the line against [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] (15-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) in a rematch from a fight from more than three years ago. Miocic won that fight by unanimous decision, but despite that, Ngannou is a -125 favorite at BetMGM. It’s the opposite from our 13 editors, writers, videographers and radio hosts, though. From them, it’s Miocic with an 8-5 edge.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Vicente Luque[/autotag] (19-7-1 MMA, 12-3 UFC) is a -250 favorite against former welterweight champ [autotag]Tyron Woodley[/autotag] (19-6-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC), who has dropped three straight. Luque has a big picks lead at 10-3 from our staff members.

Also on the card, [autotag]Thomas Almeida[/autotag] (22-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) takes on [autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] (12-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) in a bantamweight bout. O’Malley is the biggest favorite on the card at -300, and he’s a near-unanimous pick at 12-1.

[autotag]Miranda Maverick[/autotag] (8-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) takes on [autotag]Gillian Robertson[/autotag] (9-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in a women’s flyweight bout that was delayed a few weeks. Maverick is a -160 favorite, but Robertson has a big 9-4 lead from our pickers and the edge in our reader picks, as well.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Jamie Mullarkey[/autotag] (12-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) will look for his first UFC win against [autotag]Khama Worthy[/autotag] (16-7 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in a lightweight bout. Worthy only is a -135 favorite – but he’s our only unanimous pick on the main card at 13-0.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Miocic (68 percent), Luque (72 percent), O’Malley (67 percent), Robertson (53 percent) and Worthy (78 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.
