There is now more than one Messi playing for Inter Miami.
The club has announced that Thiago Messi, son of Lionel Messi, has joined up with its Under-12 side ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The 10-year-old is one of 150 players who will play for Inter Miami’s academy, which ranges from U-12 to U-19 sides, and is one of 35 newcomers this season.
Thiago, born in 2012, is the eldest of Messi’s three sons, followed by Mateo (2015) and Ciro (2018).
He’ll aim to follow in the footsteps of not only his superstar father, but the previous six homegrowns who have signed first-team contracts with Inter Miami: Noah Allen, Edison Azcona, Benjamin Cremaschi, Ian Fray, David Ruiz and Felipe Valencia.
Inter Miami’s academy has previously seen co-owner David Beckham’s son Romeo, and ex-coach Phil Neville’s son Harvey among its ranks.
While Thiago begins his journey with Inter Miami, his father continues to experience huge success with the club’s first team. The 36-year-old has led Inter Miami to a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions since his July debut, including a Leagues Cup title.
