Spencer Dinwiddie explains how he doesn’t take ‘shots’ at Knicks fans

Spencer Dinwiddie likes to have fun on Twitter at the expense of New York Knicks fans from time-to-time.

Spencer Dinwiddie has been known to rile up New York Knicks fans on Twitter from time to time. Though, he claims he’s not going after anyone.

During his appearance on House of Highlight’s “Through the Wire” podcast, Dinwiddie was asked why he takes shots at the Brooklyn Nets’ crosstown rivals:

So it’s not really shots. Like, I tell the truth. Y’all just don’t like truth and it turns into this whole [thing].

And it seems Dinwiddie intends to continue to “tell the truth” about the Knicks, based on his next remark — though, this one felt like a jab more than a presentation of facts:

Y’all got my guy Theo Pinson. I know y’all bench gonna be lively and dancing and stuff. It’s gonna be phenomenal to see.

Jamal Crawford deems Caris LeVert ‘best kept secret in the NBA’

Caris LeVert has impressed quite a few people in the Disney bubble, but he garnered even more attention on Thursday.

It took a 37-point performance on the national stage — in response to Damian Lillard’s 42-point game — for the rest of NBA Twitter to realize just what Caris LeVert brings to the table.

If only they had just listened to Spencer Dinwiddie from the start of the season. Maybe then they wouldn’t have been quite as surprised by the effort LeVert put forth in Brooklyn’s 134-133 loss on Thursday.

But, Dinwiddie isn’t the only one of LeVert’s current and former teammates who weren’t stunned by the 25-year-old wing.

Former Net turned New York Knicks guard Theo Pinson took to Twitter mid-game to warn the Blazers while LeVert was going off:

Keep leaving him on @CarisLeVert island and they gon lose!

Houston Rockets forward DeMarre Carroll thinks everyone needs to take notice of his former teammate:

CARIS LEVERT needs some respect as a young star

Jamal Crawford has only been playing with LeVert for a short while, but he already knows full well what the young talent can do, tweeting in response to Dwyane Wade’s praise of LeVert:

…the best kept secret in the NBA!

After Thursday’s performance on TNT, “best-kept secret” may not be a fair title for LeVert anymore.

Kevin Durant reminds Nets teammates they can’t guard him 1-on-1

Kevin Durant is talking some smack to his Brooklyn Nets teammates on Instagram.

As Kevin Durant was progressing with his rehab process of his right Achilles before the NBA went on hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Brooklyn Nets star forward was getting in some work on the floor against his teammates. The Nets involved in those workouts were quick to compliment Durant, letting fans know he’s still got it.

And now Durant, himself, has let everyone know that he knows he’s still got it — busting his teammates’ chops in the process.

SLAM posted some clips of Durant, Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George and Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo in a king of the court battle with Team USA, telling followers to “Tag [a] buddy that can’t guard you in 1s.”

Durant replied to the Instagram post, twice, tagging Kyrie Irving, Caris LeVert and former Net Theo Pinson, along with Barack Obama, Drake and Durant’s own mother, among others.

LeVert simply replied, “yeah ight.” Pinson, on the other hand, wants to see Durant back up his words, writing:

let’s get these 1s popping then

Report: Teams bound for Orlando expressed ‘strong interest’ in Long Island’s Justin Anderson

Justin Anderson may find a new home before the NBA restart begins at Disney toward the end of July.

The Brooklyn Nets have already taken advantage of the NBA’s “transaction window,” during which the 22 teams that are bound for Disney at the end of July can sign replacement players. After requesting waivers on Theo Pinson on Tuesday (the first day of the “transaction window”), Brooklyn signed free agent guard Tyler Johnson.

Pinson has since been picked up by the New York Knicks. But he may not be the only one to leave the organization before the “transaction window” comes to a close on June 30.

Justin Anderson, who spent some time in Brooklyn before finishing out the G League season with the franchise’s affiliate, the Long Island Nets, could be on the move, as well.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, “several teams heading to Orlando for the NBA’s re-start have expressed strong interest in signing Justin Anderson.” Begley also added the teams interested in Anderson “highly value” his defense.

Theo Pinson claimed off waivers by Knicks

Theo Pinson may not be a member of the Brooklyn Nets anymore, but New York will remain his home.

Theo Pinson’s run with the Brooklyn Nets came to an end on Tuesday when the franchise requested waivers on the guard. After calling Barclays Center home for nearly two full seasons, the University of North Carolina alum was set to play elsewhere.

And it didn’t take long for Pinson to find a new team. While he may be calling a new arena home, he’s not exactly making a big move — geographically speaking, that is.

But Pinson is joining perhaps the last team Nets fans would want him to.

Brooklyn’s crosstown rival, the New York Knicks, requested waivers on Pinson on Friday, making the acquisition official with an announcement on Twitter:

To make room for Pinson, the Knicks waived combo guard Alonzo Trier.

New York will not be among the teams to play at Disney World in Florida when the NBA resumes the 2019-20 season, since they were well out of playoff contention before the league’s hiatus. So, Pinson will have to wait until 2020-21 to make his Knicks debut.

Theo Pinson to Brooklyn: ‘Thank you for everything!’

Theo Pinson always brought energy to the floor and to the Brooklyn Nets’ bench, but now he’s on to a new chapter in his career.

Theo Pinson started his Brooklyn Nets career as a two-way player after going undrafted following the conclusion of his four-year, NCAA title-winning career at the University of North Carolina in 2018.

In April of 2019, the guard’s contract was converted into a standard NBA contract.

But Pinons’s dance-filled run with the Nets came to an end on Tuesday when the team announced it had requested waivers on the guard.

By making a decision on Pinson’s future now — instead of after 2019-20, when the Nets would’ve had to figure out whether or not to pick up their team option for 2020-21 — Brooklyn was able to sign Tyler Johnson to play at Disney World when the season resumes.

Although the team elected to part ways at this stage, the Nets still showed their appreciation Pinson and what he brought to Brooklyn:

Nets governor Joe Tsai also made sure to thank Pinson after the move:

And Pinson took to Instagram on Wednesday to show his appreciation for the NBA franchise that gave him his start:

Brooklyn it’s been one hell of a ride! Thank you for everything! Much love!

Nets sign guard Tyler Johnson

After releasing Theo Pinson on Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets have added a combo guard to their roster.

Following the Nets’ request for waivers on Theo Pinson on Tuesday, Brooklyn has added a new piece to the roster: Tyler Johnson. The team announced its signing of the guard on Wednesday.

This is the second time the Nets have gone after Johnson, though last time they weren’t able to reel him in. He signed a four-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Nets back in 2016, but stayed in Miami when the Heat matched the deal in order to retain him.

Johnson was last with the Phoenix Suns, logging 31 games before he was released in February. Coming into 2019-20, he was a 36.4% 3-point shooter, but Johnson shot well below his average this season. He only knocked down 28.9% of the 3-point attempts he took for the Suns this year after only making 32.1% of the 3-pointers he took for Phoenix in 13 games in 2018-19.

With the move, the Nets now have 17 players on their roster, including their two-way players, Chris Chiozza and Jeremiah Martin

Nets request waivers on Theo Pinson

The Brooklyn Nets have acquired a new guard ahead of the resumption of the 2019-20 season in Orlando but had to waive another to do so.

Tuesday marked the start of the transaction window in which NBA teams preparing to resume the 2019-20 season in Orlando could sign replacement players.

While the Brooklyn Nets were in a position where they could add two players with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving out for the remainder of the season, they still had to make room if they wanted to fill both spots.

On the first day of the transaction window, the Nets announced their request for waivers of Theo Pinson, dropping their roster down to 16 players. This season was the guard’s second in Brooklyn. He appeared in 33 games in 2019-20, while also playing in nine G League games for the Long Island Nets.

In addition to waiving Pinson, the Nets have agreed to a deal with Tyler Johnson, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The guard signed a four-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Nets back in 2016, but stayed in Miami when the Heat matched the deal in order to retain him.

Theo Pinson calls Kyrie Irving wanting to start own league ‘fake news’

Brooklyn Nets forward Theo Pinson calls out the Kyrie Irving report.

Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving has been in the news a lot recently as he is trying to speak up on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement going on across the country. Things took a bit of a wild turn on Tuesday night as reports came out that he was preaching to his Nets teammates that the players can start their own league in a group chat the team has.

Clearly, it was news to teammate Theo Pinson who then found the report on Twitter and he called out Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. Pinson used the infamous line “fake news” and he wants it all to stop.

Irving has been very outspoken recently due to his concerns about entering the bubble and they are valid reasons. The Black Lives Matter movement going on in America right now is huge and he just wants to do what is right for the cause. His viewpoint is understandable and it will be interesting to see what he does next. [lawrence-related id=10809,10863,10856]

How moving 2020 NBA Draft date impacts two current Nets

The 2020 NBA Draft has been officially pushed back to October 15, three days after Game 7 NBA Finals.

When the NBA announced the Board of Governors had agreed on a date to resume the 2019-20 NBA season (July 31) at Disney in Orlando, the league also revealed the 2020 Draft and Lottery had been pushed back.

The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on August 25 and the 2020 NBA Draft will be on October 15, three days after Game 7 of the 2020 NBA Finals (if necessary).

With the league’s modified 22-team format and potential play-in game between the eighth and ninth-seeded teams in each conference — and Kevin Durant ruling himself out for the remainder of the season and Kyrie Irving not expected to play either — the Nets could find themselves in the lottery come August. But a lot has to go wrong for Brooklyn on the floor for that to happen.

The league’s series of decisions could have a further impact on the Nets, as ESPN‘s Bobby Mark points out on Twitter. Both Garrett Temple and Theo Pinson have club options. The language surrounding each “aligns with the date of the draft.”

According to Marks, “Those contracts would now get adjusted from late June to mid-October.”
