Witcher 3’s next-gen versions are not in trouble, insists CD Projekt Red

Geralt will grace your PS5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime soon maybe?

Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red made the somewhat unfortunate decision to delay the next-gen versions of The Witcher 3 until further notice. However, the company insists development isn’t in a dire state.

During CD Projekt Red’s most recent financial earnings call on Thursday, senior VP of business development Michał Nowakowski clarified that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of The Witcher 3 aren’t in any trouble.

“I’ve been looking at the headlines that popped up here and there over the internet, and I’ve seen one that really drew my attention, which is, ‘Witcher 3 next-gen delayed indefinitely,’ which sounds like the game is in some sort of development hell,” Nowakowski said via PC Gamer. “I want to state this is not the fact. There’s been a lot of insinuations that we’re going to launch, like, June next year or something like that. That’s completely not the case.”

Speculation regarding the new versions of The Witcher 3 has been running rampant ever since. In fairness, CD Projekt Red’s initial statement below spoke in very vague terms, and the ports have been delayed multiple times already.

“The game is going to be finished in-house. We’re evaluating our time, that requires a bit of investigation—that’s all we’re saying. Nobody’s saying the game is delayed [with] some monumental time gap ahead of us. That’s as much as I can say about [Witcher 3] next-gen, but I really want to emphasize that fact.”

Guess we’ll see how this all pans out in time.

Witcher 3 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has been delayed

Geralt and company won’t return for new-generation adventures soon.

CD Projekt Red has delayed the new-generation versions of The Witcher 3. Initially, the game was coming out in 2022’s second-quarter release window, but that’s no longer the case.

On Wednesday, CD Projekt Red announced that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports of The Witcher 3 aren’t coming out anytime soon, as development is moving internally.

“We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” CD Projekt Red’s statement reads on Twitter. “We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice.”

Previously, Saber Interactive was working on these ports. CD Projekt Red didn’t elaborate on why it’s handing things from here on out. This project has seen multiple delays already, so who knows what’s going on.

CD Projekt Red promises to update fans when possible but didn’t share any hard details. With the announcement of another mainline Witcher RPG, many were hoping to revisit the best moments from Witcher 3 on new-generation consoles sooner rather than later. That’ll just have to wait, though.

After Cyberpunk 2077’s rough launch, CD Projekt Red likely isn’t taking any chances with less-than-perfect ports.

Witcher 3 easter egg found seven years after release

Fans discover a massive secret on Skellige.

CD Project Red has confirmed that fans have finally discovered one of The Witcher 3’s biggest easter eggs.

There’ll be minor spoilers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt below, so proceed at your discretion. Or play one of the best western RPGs ever made and come back. It should only take a hundred hours, give or take!

Alright, so. In the Blood and Wine expansion, there’s a quest called “The Warble of a Smitten Knight” involving NPC Vivienne de Tabis, who suffers from a curse that makes her take on a bird’s appearance. Geralt claims he can break the curse, but doing so will only give Vivienne seven years left to live (thanks, PC Gamer). Most of us completed the deed and never thought of what would happen to Vivienne later on.

Well, YouTuber xLetails held a charity stream recently where Philipp Weber, quest designer on Witcher 3, gave some vague hints about a particular easter egg nobody found by that point. On March 20, 2022, xLetails published a video stating that Vivienne will be dead in a room in Kaer Trolde Harbour if you meditate for seven in-game years. That same day, Weber confirmed this was the secret he was alluding to.

The wildest part? This discovery came seven years after Witcher 3’s actual release. I’ll certainly be trying this out when the new-gen port comes out.

CD Project Red also confirmed Monday that the next mainline Witcher title is in development.

Murder mystery games – the best detective games

Here are the best detective games.

It was seven o’clock in the morning and you could tell from the aroma of coffee rising in the air like decomposition gas from a long-dead stiff. Detective McKeand was thinking the case over, pouring over the clues as the rain tapped on his window. “What are the best detective games?” he asked himself. The answer came to him like a shotgun slug through the eye socket.

There they were, the best murder mystery games, dancing in his peripheral vision like ocular floaters after too many whiskeys. The pieces were all there, and now he just had to put them together in some kind of list format – people like their information digestible, see? Nobody wants facts that fester in the gut like reheated takeout. He’d show them. He’d show them all.

Ahem, here are the best detective games.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt voice actor Miłogost Reczek passes away at age 60

The Polish actor leaves behind quite a legacy.

Miłogost Reczek, best known for his role as Vesemir in  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s  Polish dub, died on Tuesday.

As first spotted by  Game Developer, Polish audiobook company Storytel  announced Reczek’s passing on its Facebook after battling cancer for many years.

Reczek was a massive talent in Poland’s voiceover and acting industry. Some of his film credits include Polish dubbing work for Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), The Hobbit films, and even the original Star Wars Trilogy where be played Obi-Wan Kenobi. That’s a career spanning over 40 years for those of you keeping track! Quite the legacy to leave behind.

However, to fans of video games, Reczek’s most iconic role was Vesemir in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While William Roberts voiced the character in the English dub, Reczek was equally known for the role since so many played the game in Polish, even internationally.

Reczek also did voice work in Cyberpunk 2077, where he played Viktor Vector in the Polish dub. Clearly, the actor left quite an impression on developer CD Projekt Red brought him back for such an important character in their next title.

Witcher 3 studio is not for sale, insists president Adam Kiciński

CD Projekt Red will remain independent.

CD Projekt Red is not up for sale, according to president and CEO Adam Kiciński.

During an interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, Kiciński addressed whether CD Projekt Red is seeking investors or additional publishing options. The fine folks over at Video Games Chronicle (VGC) translated bits of the talk.

“We have been saying for years that we plan to remain independent and do not plan to become part of a larger entity,” Kiciński said  via VGC. “We are also not looking for a strategic investor.”

It’s pretty rare for a studio of CD Projekt Red’s stature to be independent, especially since they helm AAA titles like  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  and  Cyberpunk 2077. One of the few others is Valve Software, which recently  had to delay the highly-anticipated Steam Deck.

CD Projekt Red recently bought out a few studios of its own, including The Molasses flood and Digital Scape. The former got a rename to CD Projekt Red Vancouver, even.

“As part of our strategy update, we announced more activity in the mergers and acquisitions area, which we confirmed in recent months with two transactions,” Kiciński said  via VGC. “We do not rule out more such transactions in the future. The purpose of our acquisitions is to strengthen our development teams and gain additional support in implementing our strategy.”

The next big titles for CD Projekt Red are The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen ports,  though the latter is a long way off.

‘The Witcher’ Season 2 trailer shows off epic battles ahead of December 17 premiere

More monsters, sword fights, and Yennefer.

The Witcher  Season 2 is coming out on Dec. 17, and a new trailer is giving us a sneak-peak at what to expect from it.

It’s been nearly two years since the first season of The Witcher came out, and Netflix has spared no expense on Season 2 if this trailer is any indication. Everything from the locations to CGI work on monsters is much more lavishly detailed than Season 1. It makes sense. A common criticism of The Witcher back when it first came out was that it looked relatively low-budget compared to the likes of Game Of Thrones. No longer, though.

Also, objectively best character Yennefer of Vengerberg is back. Sorry, it’s just basic facts. 2 + 2 = 4, Yennefer = best character in The Witcher. Can’t argue with science, I’m afraid.

Check out the new Season 2 trailer of The Witcher for yourself below. If you’re worried about spoilers, this trailer doesn’t seem to give away the plot at all, thankfully.

Have to say, the costume work this season looks much better, too. Though the teasing from Netflix seems to have confirmed that already. The series is well on its way to rivaling the games and novels in terms of hype as well. So what better way to wait for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S than to watch the Netflix show?

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and ‘The Witcher 3’ next-gen versions delayed

Delays, delays, and more delays for CD Projekt Red’s games!

Anyone hoping to get their hands on the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077  or The Witcher 3  this year might want to sit down, as both aren’t coming out until 2022 now.

On Wednesday, developer CD Projekt Red announced that the next generation updates for both games won’t come out until next year. The studio is targeting the first quarter for Cyberpunk 2077  and the second quarter for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s not all that surprising, considering CD Projekt Red said back in September that these delays might happen, even it’s still a bummer.

Check out CD Projekt Red’s full statement for yourself below.

There’s no doubt that CD Projekt Red is handling these updated versions with care, as the studio likely wants to avoid another catastrophic launch like what happened with Cyberpunk 2077  last year. Either way, you’ll be able to play both games on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S soon enough.
