State of the edge room: The Real Forno Show

The Minnesota Vikings have a great edge duo in Danielle Hunter and Marcus Davenport. Can they live up to the hype under Brian Flores?

As we continue to make our way through each position group on the roster, we have made our way to the edge rushers. A position that the Minnesota Vikings both had top-end talent and questionable depth, that carries over from last year.

Gone is Za’Darius Smith, as he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in May. In his place steps sixth-year pass rusher Marcus Davenport, who has more upside with just as many injury concerns.

With him and Danielle Hunter, who still needs a new contract, the Vikings are set to have a solid edge room. What does the rest of the group look like?

  • Can D.J. Wonnum show signs of growth this year to warrant a second contract?
  • Will Patrick Jones II thrive under Brian Flores?
  • Was Andre Carter II worth the UDFA investment he was given this offseason?

All of that and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, airing Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

State of the DL room: The Real Forno Show

The defensive line room of the Minnesota Vikings has talent, but how good can they be without top talent? We discuss on The Real Forno Show

The Minnesota Vikings currently have an intriguing defensive line room. With the starters that they have right now, they have good players, but nobody with top end talent.

They lost their best player Dalvin Tomlinson to free agency and replaced him with Dean Lowry. The other starters are likely to be Khyiris Tonga and Harrison Phillips. Is that good enough to be a contender when the top teams are better on the interior?

After the starters, the intrigue here is with the young talent. Guys like Esezi Otomewo and Jaquelin Roy are primed to step up into bigger roles, but are they ready to do so?

Also, what does the future of the room look like? Will there be a surprise cut like James Lynch or Jonathan Bullard?

We discuss all that and more on The Real Forno Show on a special night at 6 pm central time on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel. You can catch the show on demand at anytime or at it’s usual time Monday and Wednesday night at 6 pm central.

State of the offensive tackle room: The Real Forno Show

The Minnesota Vikings have one of the best offensive tackle rooms in the National Football League and we discuss on The Real Forno Show.

The Minnesota Vikings have struggled on the offensive line for the last decade. Going into the 2023 season, the offensive tackle group is one of the best in the National Football League.

Even with the top end talent, there are still some question marks with this group.

  • Can Christian Darrisaw improve on his excellent 2022 season?
  • How will Brian O’Neill rebound from his partially torn Achilles tendon suffered in week 17?
  • Will Blake Brandel and Oli Udoh improve on their 2022 performance?
  • Can Vederian Lowe show enough improvement to make the roster?
  • Jacky Chen and Sam Schlueter are trying to make the roster. Can they make the roster?

All of that and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, airing Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

State of the tight end room: The Real Forno Show

On the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, we take a look at the tight end room.

We are now less that three weeks from the beginning of training camp, which means our season preview series is starting to ramp up.

Up next is the tight end position. There is a lot to talk about with this group. Last October, the Minnesota Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson to support their struggling wide receiver group outside of Justin Jefferson. He came in and made a huge impact. How will his presence impact the Vikings in 2023? Will he sign a contract extension?

Along with Hockenson, there is more talent in the room that will make an impact.

  • How will Josh Oliver be used with the Vikings?
  • How much will Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse play?
  • Will they keep four tight ends with a shift to more 12 personnel?

All of that and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, airing Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

State of the WR room: The Real Forno Show

In continuing our 2023 season preview series, The Real Forno Show dives into the wide receiver room.

The Minnesota Vikings are set to open up training camp on July 23rd for rookies and July 25th for veterans.

Over the last two episodes, we have taken a look at the quarterback position and the running back position. On this show, it’s all about the wide receivers.

Justin Jefferson is the unquestioned best player on the Vikings and one of the top 2-3 wide receivers in the NFL. How will he impact this room?

What will K.J. Osborn do in his fourth season? Will he lose his job to first-round pick Jordan Addison?

Who earns the WR4, 5 and 6 jobs? Will they go to the expected Jaren Nailor and Jalen Reagor or will they get beaten out by the multitude of UDFAs the Vikings have?

All of that and more on The Real Forno Show, airing live on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central time on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

State of the RB room and 100th episode celebration: The Real Forno Show

The 100th episode of The Real Forno Show discusses the state of the running back room.

With a month until training camp, the Minnesota Vikings players are on a well-deserved break. This gives us an opportunity to continue looking at the state of the roster.

After looking at the quarterback room last week we examine the state of the Vikings running back room. After losing Dalvin Cook, there are a lot of question marks.

Alexander Mattison is primed to be the top back in this offense. He has the skill set to play on all three downs, but hasn’t been the most consistent. Can he step up in a big way?

After Mattison, it’s going to be a fun battle for the second running back spot. Kene Nwangwu is surprisingly the clubhouse leader coming out of mandatory minicamp with Vikings draft picks Ty Chandler and DeWayne McBride behind him fighting for the job.

How will things shape up? We discuss that and more on the 100th episode The Real Forno Show, airing live at 6 pm on Monday and Wednesday night on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

State of the QB room: The Real Forno Show

The Vikings quarterback room is a bag of mystery. We discuss that and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show.

The offseason abyss is upon us. There is very little news coming out about the Minnesota Vikings and that leaves a lot of time to preview the 2023 season.

After looking back at minicamp, it’s time to start our state of the roster series that pairs directly with the written piece on Vikings Wire.

[lawrence-related id=79039]

The quarterback position is one that is very intriguing for the Vikings. Current starter Kirk Cousins is in the last year of his contract and will also be playing his first season in Minnesota with a returning offensive coordinator. How will that impact the Vikings offense?

Nick Mullens is the backup quarterback and is a stalwart for the position. How does he factor into the equation?

Fifth-round pick Jaren Hall looks like he could be the future, but he wasn’t selected with any sort of capital. What he does have is a lot of talent in a dual-threat capacity with experience in the offense that Kevin O’Connell runs. Can he develop into that player for the Vikings?

2023 NFL rookie draft: The Real Forno Show

The latest show talks Kirk Cousins and a 7-on-7 draft.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings wrapped up mandatory minicamp and the biggest news coming out of TCO Performance Center came from their starting quarterback.

Kirk Cousins said that contract extension talks likely wouldn’t occur again until March. Outside of that, there wasn’t much going on with the purple and gold, so we are going to have a little bit of fun.

Joining host Tyler Forness on the show is fellow Vikings Wire writer Kevin Fielder to draft 7-on-7 teams. 7-on-7 drills are commonplace in both practice and camps for high school kids to get themselves noticed by college recruiters.

Each writer will draft their team in a snake draft style with the winner being determined by a fan poll after the show.

Danielle Hunter’s holdout: The Real Forno Show

On the eve of mandatory minicamp, The Real Forno Show dives into Danielle Hunter’s impending holdout and storylines to watch.

When mandatory minicamp hits on Tuesday, the expectation is that outside linebacker Danielle Hunter will be a holdout.

We have had a lot of discussions about Hunter and a potential contract extension and trade. This is the next step in Hunter’s path to getting a contract extension. How does this impact his quest for that extension with regard to the collective bargaining agreement?

Along with discussions about Hunter, mandatory minicamp is here! There are a lot of storylines to follow for the Vikings during the last practices before training camp starting in July. What should Vikings fans be looking for?

We discuss all of that and more on The Real Forno Show live every Monday night at 6 pm central time on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.
