Why did Ben Affleck (who met with Michael Jordan at The Grove XXIII) say that ‘golf is like meth?’

“I look at golf like meth. They have better teeth, but it doesn’t seem like people ever come out of that.”

Ben Affleck is directing and starring in an upcoming film named “Air.” It follows the story of how Michael Jordan’s family and executives at Nike turned Jordan into a revolutionary brand and sneaker.

Affleck plays former Nike CEO Phil Knight.

Before making the movie, Affleck wanted to get Jordan’s blessing, so he asked to meet up. Unsurprising, Jordan invited Affleck out to his golf course, The Grove XXIII, in Hobe Sound, Florida.

“Went out, met with him,” Affleck told The Hollywood Reporter. “I waited for him to finish playing. I don’t golf myself. Because I just feel like it eats people’s lives up.

“I look at golf like meth. They have better teeth, but it doesn’t seem like people ever come out of that. Once they start golfing, you just don’t ever see them again.”

Viola Davis is playing Jordan’s mother while Matt Damon, Chris Tucker and Jason Bateman are playing Nike execs.

‘Air’ hits theaters on May 5.

One of the many perks at Michael Jordan’s Grove XXIII golf club? Drones deliver drinks and snacks

One of the many perks at Michael Jordan’s The Grove XXIII golf club? Drones deliver drinks and snacks.

As if being (arguably) the greatest basketball player of all time wasn’t cool enough, Michael Jordan had to go and one-up the rest of us by creating his very own exclusive golf club, The Grove XXIII, in Hobe Sound, Florida.

His club, which opened in the fall of 2019, hosted Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler’s all-lefty match and caught Phil Mickelson’s eye. According to Fowler, Jordan wins so much at his home track that it has a new nickname: “Slaughterhouse 23.”

The Grove XXIII caught some social media attention this week when video surfaced of drones delivering beer and food to players on the course. It’s the perfect mix of 2020: technology and social distancing.
