Auburn advances one place in latest 133 ranking from The Athletic

Despite not playing last week, Auburn found a way to improve their stock in the eyes of Chris Vannini of The Athletic.

Auburn did not play a game last weekend. That did not matter in the eyes of Chris Vannini of The Athletic.

The latest 133 ranking from The Athletic was released on Monday, and Auburn has moved one space to No. 45, up from No. 46 ahead of the bye week.

Vannini lists several reasons for the bump, including Miami’s embarrassing loss to Georgia Tech and Iowa State’s impressive win over TCU.

Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Texas A&M and Kansas State fall out of the top 25 with losses. Miami’s inexplicable loss to Georgia Tech after not kneeling the ball was embarrassing, but the Hurricanes had all but won the game. Their win against Texas A&M keeps Miami from falling much farther down, after A&M took Alabama to the wire in a loss on Saturday.

Kansas State lost 29-21 to an Oklahoma State program that had been flailing, and the Wildcats drop to No. 41. Similarly, Iowa State jumps from No. 80 to No. 49 after a 27-14 win against TCU. NC State moves up to No. 43 after beating undefeated Marshall.

This week’s opponent, LSU, checks in at No. 21 this week. The three-slot increase was due to their road win at Missouri. Missouri, who was No. 19 ahead of the LSU game, is now No. 24.
