The No. 24 Texas Tech Red Raiders will kick off the college football season against the Wyoming Cowboys Saturday. Kickoff from Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas Tech vs. Wyoming odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Red Raiders produced an 8-5 record in 2022 — the first season the program tallied more than 7 wins since 2013. Texas Tech would go on to defeat Ole Miss in the Texas Bowl last season, giving the program something to build off of entering the 2023 campaign. Texas Tech enters the season as the No. 24 ranked team in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Cowboys notched a 7-6 record for the 2nd straight year in 2022. Wyoming would sustain a narrow loss to Ohio in the Arizona Bowl to finish its season, earning the program a bowl game bid in 5 of the last 7 seasons.

Texas Tech at Wyoming picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas Tech 31, Wyoming 14

Moneyline

The Red Raiders should come out firing in Week 1 of the college football season, but I’ll PASS on their moneyline in this contest. Wagering on Texas Tech (-550) at the current odds isn’t worth the risk.

Against the spread

TEXAS TECH -14 (-110) is the play in this matchup as the Red Raiders should have an impressive aerial attack with QB Tyler Shough set to start under center. Wyoming doesn’t have the offense to keep pace with Texas Tech.

Over/Under

Nothing indicates that the Cowboys are going to have a much-improved offense from a season ago that averaged only 20.3 points per game (26th fewest in the nation), making UNDER 50.5 (-110) the pick in this game. The Red Raiders will jump out to an early lead and then take their foot off the gas in the second half to help the Under hit.
