Texas Tech vs TCU Game Preview

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The defense continues to be devastating.

The Red Raiders have won four straight and seven of the last eight but clamping down on everyone from the field. Oklahoma might have hit 49% from the field in a win, but Texas Tech loaded up in the rematch.

The Sooners made 38% of their shots and lost 66-42.

TCU was able to make 46% of its shots from the field in the first meeting, and it was hot from the outside, and … lost 82-69.

Texas Tech is eighth in the nation at field goal defense and 14th in scoring D. TCU doesn’t score enough – it’s having a hard time getting to 70 points. This has to be a low-scoring fight, and …

Why TCU Will Win

TCU isn’t bad at keeping the scores really, really low at home.

It beat West Virginia 77-67 in Ed and Rae Schollmaier, and it lost to Iowa 54-51 a few weeks ago. Slow things down, play in to Texas Tech’s style and capitalize on the opportunities, and get around it all with lots and lots of assists.

Texas was held to 1-of-14 from three, Baylor was held to 2-of-11 from the outside, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech isn’t good enough from three. It’s going to be all about relying on the defense and forcing enough mistakes to generate easy points.

The Red Raiders hit 54% from the field in the first meeting and was great on the free throw line. That was going, the +5 rebounding margin was great, and it’ll all happen again in Fort Worth.

Why TCU Will Win

TCU has turned into that team that seems to give everyone a hard time.

Usually it gives everyone a hard time and loses, but it has a style that was tough enough to get by Oklahoma State and beat Iowa State twice – okay, so taking down the Cyclones is no big whoop – over the last six games.

The defense is usually able to keep games in the low 70s or lower, so when the offense is on like it has been over the last few games, there are problems.

Texas Tech is coming off a good win over Texas, but it lost the previous three games after the defense struggle way too often. The Longhorns aren’t hitting from the field lately, but before Saturday, Texas Tech were allowing just about everyone to blow past 40% from the field.

TCU is able to move the ball around well enough to generate the easy shots, but …

Why Texas Tech Will Win

TCU really doesn’t score enough.

It’s not normally great from three, there aren’t enough offensive rebounds, and there isn’t enough high-octane spurts to take over games. For a team that doesn’t score all that well, turning the ball over as much as it does and having a slew of problems on the free throw line – at least before nailing a perfect 18-of-18 against Iowa State – hurts.

Texas Tech doesn’t screw up all that much and is great at coming up with takeaways. It it’s at least +5 in turnover margin, this could get ugly.

What’s Going To Happen

Is this when Texas Tech gets its groove back? It’s established as an okay Big 12 team, but it needs to jump all over TCU to make it look like there might be something big coming up soon.

TCU will fall flat just when it’s time to turn it on in the second half. Texas Tech will never get comfortable, but it’ll be a wee bit sharper.

Texas Tech (14-6) vs TCU (11-8) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why TCU Will Win

It’s a decent all-around TCU team that can get hot from three, is relatively consistent from the outside, and it’s normally great at moving the ball around.

When the extra pass comes and the offense is hitting from 45% from the field or better, it’s able to hang around with just about anyone. Texas Tech’s defense is strong overall, but it struggled a bit lately – especially against West Virginia – allowing teams to hit 45% or better from the field in four of the last seven games.

TCU should generate enough second chance points on the boards to help the percentage, but …

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Red Raider defense really is that good.

West Virginia was able to crack the code with the two wins over the last few weeks, doing a great job of nailing everything from three connecting on more than 55% from the outside. TCU can hit from three, but it’s more consistent than sensational.

Texas Tech is too good on the offensive boards and the defense is too good at forcing mistakes. TCU doesn’t force enough turnovers to matter.

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech will get back on track after the loss to West Virginia.

The defense will clamp down on a TCU offense that doesn’t shoot well enough overall and doesn’t have the firepower to go on a big run to keep up.

Texas Tech (2-4) vs TCU (2-3 Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Texas Tech Will Win

TCU has been strange.

It scores in spurts, it hasn’t been consistent, and it hasn’t come close to playing the same type of game twice in a row.

Texas Tech can figure out what it wants to take away. The Horned Frogs ran well against Texas and Baylor, but struggled to pound against anyone else. They threw well in a few games, and couldn’t get the passing attack going too often over the last three outings.

Get the pass rush going against the shaky Horned Frog line, and the team will instantly become one-dimensional. However …

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

Why TCU Will Win

Texas Tech has been strange.

The normally high-powered passing attack hasn’t hit 300 yards in the last four games, and it’s not controlling games offensively like it should.

If you’re going to struggle on defense – Texas Tech is last in the Big 12 – you need to be able to score more than this team does.

The O is able to move the chains, but the up-tempo style is killing – as always – the time of possession battle. TCU is great at keeping games at its level and pace, and it can be methodical without worrying about the Red Raiders roaring back.

What’s Going To Happen

This game is going to be strange.

The road team has won the last five games, and TCU is 0-3 at home.

TCU will break its rough string with a good passing attack against a secondary that’s been torched over the last three games and in four of the six games. Texas Tech is overdue for a funky-good performance when the offense works, but that’s not this week.
