Texas Tech at Oklahoma State: Three things to know

  1. The Red Raiders picked a bad time for a slide. They have dropped two in a row and four of the past seven outings. Texas Tech was dumped 67-61 at Kansas Saturday, failing to cover as a 2-point underdog with the Under (134.5) cashing. Texas Tech is 3-13 ATS across the past 16 games.
  2. The Cowboys also have a loss to Kansas across their past four outings, but they’re 3-1 straight-up and 2-2 ATS during the span. They’re coming off an impressive 76-58 win against Iowa State Tuesday as 11-point favorites. OSU is a slight underdog in this game, and it is 3-4 SU/4-3 ATS across seven outings as an underdog this season.
  3. Texas Tech fell to Oklahoma State 82-77 in Lubbock, Texas, Jan. 2, 82-77 in overtime. The Cowboys won outright as 8.5-point underdogs as the Over (134.5) cashed. The underdog has cashed in nine of the previous 12 meetings in the head-to-head series.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma State 73, Texas Tech 70

Money line (ML)

OKLAHOMA STATE (+135) is a home underdog, but it’s playing slightly better basketball than Texas Tech at the moment. The Red Raiders have been dumped by Kansas and West Virginia in the past two games, and as mentioned, they were beaten by the Cowboys in Lubbock back on Jan. 2.

A key thing to watch is the health of Oklahoma State G Isaac Likekele (foot), who is questionable for this game. He missed the last two games, but is expected to return for this one. He is OSU’s second-leading scorer with 10.2 points per game, while leading the team with 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per outing. As long as Likekele can play, look for the Cowboys to defend Gallagher-Iba with another signature win over the Red Raiders. If he is ruled out, then Texas Tech is a lot more attractive straight-up.

Against the spread (ATS)

OKLAHOMA STATE +3.5 (-115) is the play here, again, as long as Likekele is given the green light to play.

The Cowboys are a better value just playing the money line in this particular instance, however. While the Cowboys are 2-7 ATS across their past nine home games against a team with a winning road record, the underdog is 9-3 ATS across the past 12 meetings in this head-to-head series.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 138.5 (-110) is the best play on the board in this Big 12 battle. The Over is 8-3-2 in Oklahoma State’s past 13 at home, and 10-4 in its past 14 overall. For Texas Tech, the Over is 8-3 in the past 11 overall, and 4-1 in the past five on the road.

Likekele’s playing status doesn’t affect the total as much. If he plays, good, as he is a top scorer for the Cowboys. If he doesn’t play, it’s also good as he is a better-than-average defender. If he’s out, the Red Raiders should see more offensive opportunities.
