Mayhem indeed! After a thrilling finish, Friday night proved to be a nail-biter through and through, with the No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies (33-19, 12-12 SEC) officially moving on in the NCAA Softball tournament with a 2-1 win over No. 3 Texas State (34-23, 13-9 Sun Belt) in the Austin Regional.
After Hannah Earls scored to make it 1-0 for the Bobcats at the top of the sixth, the Maroon and White responded with a Koko Wooley single to center field in the bottom of the seventh. Following an error by the defense, Allie Enright ran it in to tie the game 1-1 on their final out.
Seven innings proved insufficient for these two teams, as the Austin Regional went to extra innings Friday night.
With extra softball to play, Aiyana Coleman officially put the Bobcats’ season to bed while extending the Aggies’ postseason campaign for another day, with Ry Wiggins on third and their last out, Coleman’s single allowed Wiggins to score and officially cap a walk-off win for the Maroon and White.
