Texas A&M should pursue Texas transfer defensive lineman

Another talented defensive lineman has entered the transfer portal

Texas A&M’s defensive line needs more depth after the departures of defensive ends Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart, who declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, while defensive tackle Shemar Turner announced his draft intentions on Tuesday afternoon.

The departures of all three players on the roster aren’t surprising, and head coach Mike Elko and his staff know the depth issues that need to be addressed through the transfer portal. While Elko’s focus has been on adding playmakers at wide receiver, an intriguing defensive lineman has just entered the portal.

After two seasons with the College Football Playoff-bound Texas Longhorns,  redshirt freshman DL Sydir Mitchell will look at other options after entering the portal for a second time this offseason.

While Mitchell is still a raw player, the 6-6, 340-pound defensive lineman has plenty to offer as a depth piece, and the Aggies need more size up front to stop the run and allow pass rushers to take hold late in games.

Sydir Mitchell has three seasons of eligibility remaining once he chooses his next destination.

Former Mississippi State wide receiver will transfer to Texas A&M

Former Mississippi State standout WR Mario Craver will transfer to Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s transfer portal success this offseason continued on Tuesday morning, as it was announced that former Mississippi State wide receiver Mario Craver will head to College Station next season and join former Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson.

On paper, Texas A&M’s 2025 wide receiver room is vastly improved, bringing more speed and run-after-catch ability to a corps in dire need of production to aid the development of quarterback Marcel Reed next season.

During Craver’s first and only collegiate season with Mississippi State, he recorded 17 receptions, 368 yards, and three touchdowns, including 21 yards per catch. With the ability to line up at all three receiver spots, Craver’s run-after-catch ability and toughness would immediately improve the Aggie receiver room.

During his first season, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko recognized the shortcomings in the position. He understood that for the offense to advance, having playmakers capable of executing short, middle, and deep passes is essential for a balanced offensive strategy that seamlessly integrates both the running and passing game.

Craver looks like a long-term option as an Aggie wide receiver as he enters his sophomore season in Aggieland.

USC bowl opponent loses two key defenders to 2025 NFL draft

USC is enduring roster depletion for its bowl game, but its opponent, Texas A&M, is facing the same problem. It creates a very fluid situation in Las Vegas.

We are less than two weeks away from USC football concluding its 2024 season against Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl.

The Aggies finished the season 8-4, including a 5-3 mark in SEC play. However, they will be without two key defenders in the matchup against the Trojans.

Since the conclusion of the regular season, Texas A&M junior defensive linemen Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart have both declared for the NFL Draft. The expectation is that neither will play against USC in Las Vegas.

Scourton finished the regular season with 37 tackles, five sacks, two passes defended, and a forced fumble. Steward had 31 tackles, two passes defended, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Given the Trojans’ makeshift offensive line, USC will certainly not complain about the news. The Trojans have already lost offensive linemen Mason Murphy, Gino Quinones, and Amos Talalele to the transfer portal. It is also not yet known whether NFL-bound seniors Jonah Monheim and Emmanuel Pregnon will play in the game or not.

Even with a relatively mobile quarterback in Jayden Maiava, USC could be in trouble up front in the Sin City. While their opponent being without two of its top defenders certainly won’t fix everything, it should hopefully at least make Maiava’s life a little easier.

Texas A&M is a finalist for Nevada transfer offensive tackle

Texas A&M is a finalist to land former Nevada offensive tackle Isaiah World

While Texas A&M’s transfer portal achievements haven’t equaled those of LSU and Ole Miss this offseason, head coach Mike Elko deserves recognition for maintaining his composure and securing crucial additions from the portal this month, such as former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson.

However, depth in the offensive and defensive trenches has become an issue after defensive ends Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart declared for the NFL Draft. In contrast, several of A&M’s offensive line starters still have a few weeks to declare.

Staying with the O-line, starting left tackle Trey Zuhn III and starting right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams could still declare, while right tackles Dametrious Crownover and Reuben Fatheree II are also draft-eligible.

Although almost every starter is anticipated to return, it’s crucial to acknowledge the impact of losing reserve guard TJ Shanahan and Kam Dewberry to the portal, which has already created gaps in the depth chart.

On Monday, it was revealed that former Nevada starting tackle Isaiah World has included Texas A&M among his top 3 transfer destinations as the Aggies join Oregon and Maryland.

World started all 13 games at left tackle for the Wolfpack during his redshirt junior season, named an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention. According to Pro Football Focus, World finished with a 68 offensive grade and an impressive 81 pass-blocking grade, while his run-blocking (58.6) was average.

Standing at 6-8 and 309 pounds, World is a mover of men with a ton of upside and an immediate starting ability if Zuhn declares for the draft. Either way, he is a highly valuable rotational option.

Texas A&M is a finalist to land Arkansas transfer defensive lineman

Texas A&M’s defensive line needs more size and depth up front heading into the 2025 season

Texas A&M has landed four commitments from the transfer portal, led by Sunday night’s announcement that former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson will head to College Station for his sophomore season and more than likely earn one of the three receiver starting spots.

While Hudson’s commitment is great news, the Aggies still need more depth along the defensive line after Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart declared for the NFL Draft. At the same time, several reserve players entered the portal, including defensive ends Malick Sylla and Enai White.

On Monday, it was revealed by On3’s Pete Nakos that Texas A&M and UCLA are the two finalists to land Arkansas transfer defensive lineman/Edge Nico Davillier, who recorded 34 tackles, two sacks, and six tackles for loss during his last two seasons in Fayetteville.

At 6-4 and almost 280 pounds, Davillier recorded a defensive grade of 67.6, a pass rush score of 68.4, and a coverage grade of 66.8, according to Pro Football Focus. These solid scores indicate that he is a reliable defender with significant potential in an appropriate system.

Former Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper helped lead Green Bay to victory on Sunday

Rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has a big night against the Seahawks in Week 15

Former All-American Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has been making a name for himself in Green Bay. On Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, he had one of his best games of his rookie season.

After missing three games with an injury, Cooper came back like he had never missed a step; he was a one-man wrecking crew member in a backup role. The rookie was all over the field and made plays in every way possible for a defensive player. Cooper had seven tackles, one sack, and two passes defended on the night.

However, his most impressive play of the night was when he dropped back into coverage and picked off Seahawks QB Geno Smith at mid-field late in the fourth quarter. Up ten helped seal the game and ruin the Seahawks’ chance at a comeback.

Aggie fans are well aware of the type of player Cooper is, and the Packers get a glimpse of him every time he steps on the field.

Texas A&M transfer WR has found his new home for the 2025 season

Former Texas A&M wide receiver Cyrus Allen is headed to the Big 12 for the 2025 season

Texas A&M’s transfer portal departures included one of the more reliable offensive contributors during the 2024 season, veteran wide receiver Cyrus Allen, who transferred to College Station after two seasons with Louisiana Tech.

However, after recording 18 receptions for 269 yards in eight appearances, Allen’s season-ending upper-body injury during A&M’s shutout win over New Mexico State ended his short Aggie career, as the junior pass catcher entered the transfer portal a month later.

Allen’s best moments during the season game in the first few weeks, including his 73-yard touchdown catch against Florida on the road in the Aggies’ 33-20 win over the Gators, while his snaps diminished in favor of senior WR Jabre Barber during the second half of the year.

Still, Allen has a lot to provide for any passing attack. After initially committing to Tulane on Monday, Allen quickly changed his mind. He will now transfer to Cincinnati in the Big 12, as the Louisiana native will head to Ohio for a new chapter in his college career.

In three collegiate seasons, Cyrus Allen has recorded 86 receptions, 1,547 yards, and nine touchdowns at LA Tech and Texas A&M.

Is Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed a potential Heisman candidate in 2025?

Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed has a chance to take complete control of the offense in 2025

Texas A&M’s 2024 season didn’t live up to the mid-season expectations after the Aggies stood at 7-1 and 5-0 in SEC play, but after the loss of star running back Le’Veon Moss, the offense sputtered and never looked the same.

Despite the late-season quarterback transition to redshirt freshman Marcel Reed, progress was evident. Reed led the Aggies to a perfect 3-0 record, concluding his inaugural season with a 4-3 overall record.

Statistically, Reed completed 61% of his passes for 1,572 yards and 12 touchdowns while running for 501 yards and six touchdowns, living up to his dual-threat billing in several games. While OC Collin Klein endured scrutiny for poor playcalling toward the end of the year, it’s assumed that he will fit the offense to Reed’s skillset even more so in 2025.

However, Reed’s struggles in the passing game were evident in the season finale loss to Texas, throwing for just 146 yards and an interception against the Longhorn’s elite secondary. Still, Reed’s first entire season was just the start of what’s to come for a player with all the traits to turn into a star signal caller.

Gaining healthy mass is crucial for Reed to maximize his potential this offseason. However, Coach Mike Elko needs to bring in playmakers at wide receiver and tight end from the transfer portal to complement the returning and incoming players, especially five-star WR Jerome Myles.

Suppose we’re discussing Reed as a Heisman Trophy candidate. In that case, he’ll need borderline elite blocking and a true No. 1 wide receiver, which could be Myles as soon as the youngster steps on campus. However, the realistic option looks like former Texas Tech wideout Micah Hudson, who committed to the Aggies on Sunday night.

Reed’s confidence and work ethic match on-field talent, which should garner preseason praise. However, expect the media to recognize Reed as something other than the 2025 starter after the Aggies landed veteran QB Jacob Zeno from the portal.

Zeno’s commitment only benefits Reed and the young Aggie quarterback room, providing insurance and barring future injuries. However, if Marcel Reed is going to reach new heights, having a worthy opponent to push him toward his goals and challenge him throughout fall camp is the best path to success.

The bottom line is that Marcel Reed’s speed, elusiveness, and ability to make plays out of structure are why he should at least be considered a Heisman candidate.

Will Texas A&M’s Terry Bussey stay at wide receiver in 2025?

Could Terry Bussey make the switch to cornerback? it isn’t very likely after landing former Georgia CB Julian Humphrey

Texas A&M’s cornerback room looks solidified after the Sunday morning addition of former Georgia cornerback Julian Humphrey, who announced his intentions after his weekend visit to College Station.

Starting ten games during his final season with the Bulldogs, Humphrey finished with ten tackles and four pass deflections while earning the second-highest coverage grade on the team (69) per Pro Football Focus.

Joining senior outside corner Will Lee III, Humphrey is a shoo-in to start in rotate in opposite Lee, as the Aggie cornerback room looks the best it has in years. This also directly impacted former five-star athlete Terry Bussey, who played most of his 2024 snaps as a wide receiver.

Bussey’s recruitment was very similar to that of Heisman-winning WR/CB Travis Hunter. While both players are different, Bussey is talented enough to switch to cornerback full-time while still taking snaps at wide receiver.

However, with Julian Humphrey’s commitment, Coach Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein likely view Bussey as a slot wide receiver with plenty of upside in screens and mesh concepts to consistently pick up third downs and open up the deep passing game. Bussey finished the season with 13 receptions for 179 yards, including 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

We won’t understand the coaching staff’s strategy for Bussey’s future until the 2025 spring season. However, if Elko views Bussey as a dual-threat player similar to Travis Hunter, it’s time to experiment next season.

Former Texas Tech wide receiver has committed to Texas A&M

Former Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson is headed to College Station

Boom! Texas A&M has secured its fourth commitment from the transfer portal, as former five-star prospect and Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson is set to join Aggieland for his sophomore season, adding crucial playmaking ability to A&M’s wide receiver corps.

After visiting Texas A&M last week, Hudson was predicted to land with the Aggies from the outset. He almost committed to the program out of high school before sticking with his original Texas Tech pledge.

During his one and only season in Lubbock (TX), Hudson recorded just eight receptions and 123 yards through the air but showed off his elite ball skills on several occasions. However, his fit in the Texas Tech offense didn’t come to fruition, and a change of scenery while Texas looked like the goal.

Hudson originally planned to announce his commitment in under two weeks, including a potential LSU visit. Still, after the Tigers landed former Kentucky wideout Barion Brown, Hudson likely saw the Aggies as the best choice to make an impact right out of the gate in 2025.

Hudson joins 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, incoming senior WR Noah Thomas, and sophomore Terry Bussey in what looks like a vastly improved WR room next season.
