Dolphins’ Brian Flores, Tua Tagovailoa downplay Texans QB Deshaun Watson trade rumors

Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores and QB Tua Tagovailoa are focused on the team and not the trade rumors with Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson.

HOUSTON — For a team that has been outscored by the Buffalo Bills 91-26 in their last two meetings, it seems as if a revenge performance should be the top discussion revolving around the 1-6 Miami Dolphins ahead of their Week 8 rematch on Sunday.

But with the NFL trade deadline less than a week away, the Dolphins’ pursuit for Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson continues to dominate. And on Wednesday, Dolphins’ coach Brian Flores had to reiterate the team’s confidence in Tua Tagovailoa in an attempt to downplay the interminable trade rumors regarding Watson.

“I don’t get into rumors nor pay attention to it,” Flores said. “Tua is our quarterback, and I said that multiple times. I said that to him. I try to be as honest and transparent with our players — and that’s what I’ve been.”

Flores’ reiteration on Tagovailoa is starting to become a week-to-week declaration in Miami. But As long as Watson remains on the trading block, the speculations around Tagovailoa’s future with the team will not cease.

During his media availability, Tagovailoa says he feels “very confident” that he is the quarterback for the Dolphins, but joked that he doesn’t feel wanted by the organization.

The 23-year-old quarterback from Alabama said the team does not have time to address trade speculations as they try to stay focused on preparing for their AFC East counterparts.

The Dolphins have dropped six consecutive games against the Bills, with their last win coming in December of 2018.

“For me, I don’t have control over any of that — I am just focusing on the guys in the building,” Tagovailoa said. “I do not think about it. The only time I hear about it is if my agent calls me. Other than that, it’s really the only time I hear it.”

Since requesting a trade in late January, Miami remains atop Watson’s preferred destination. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans and Dolphins could agree to terms before Nov. 2, but Miami would like clarification on Watson’s legal issues.

In an event the Texans deal Watson to Miami, the Dolphins will have to find a third party for Tagovailoa — given Houston’s disinterest in the quarterback.

Texans coach David Culley on the NFL trade deadline: ‘My focus is on coaching football’

Houston Texans coach David Culley says that as the trade deadline approaches on Nov. 2, his focus is simply on doing his job: coaching.

HOUSTON — With the NFL less than a week away from its Nov. 2 trade deadline, the Houston Texans remain the most coveted team in the rumor mill. The Texans could have a fire sale and depart from several veteran players, headlined by disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson who requested a trade from the organization in late January.

Amid his first rodeo as coach at the deadline, David Culley will not allow the endless chatter to defer his primary task for the Texans.

“For myself, I don’t think anything about that,” Culley said Wednesday morning. “That’s [general manager] Nick (Caserio) — he is the one who takes care of that. Right now, my focus is on coaching this football.”

Culley said discussing the impact of a potential trade from the X’s and O’s perspectives is the only responsibility he will have at the deadline. Along with Caserio, it’s a commitment Culley has held with every roster change the Texans have made this season.

“Block out the outside noise — the most important thing is what’s inside this locker room,” he said. “We don’t ever talk about it. We basically just try to do the things that I just mentioned that we have to get better on. Eliminate the penalties, eliminate the big plays and tackling and we do that. That’s all our discussion is and that’s all we ever hear about in our dressing room.”

According to multiple reports, the Texans are interested in building their draft capital in any exchange.

In addition to Watson, safety Lonnie Johnson, defensive end Charles Omenihu, and linebacker Zach Cunningham are additional players the Texans could deal ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Panthers not expected to trade for Texans QB Deshaun Watson

The Carolina Panthers are not expected to pursue a trade for Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson at this time.

The Carolina Panthers are out of the Deshaun Watson trade sweepstakes.

According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, who heavily cited the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the NFC South team will not be pursuing the Houston Texans’ three-time Pro Bowl quarterback.

The only team for which Watson has waived his no-trade clause is the Miami Dolphins, and they may be the only team in the running as the Nov. 2 trade deadline approaches.

Arguably the biggest complication to executing a trade has been Watson’s off-field issues. The former 2017 first-round pick is currently a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women allege sexual assault. Not only have there been 10 criminal complaints filed with the Houston Police Department and an FBI probe, but the NFL is conducting its own investigation. The possibility is a team could give up a franchise quarterback’s ransom for Watson, and his off-field issues land him on the commissioner’s exempt list or result in a lengthy suspension.

Report: Teams interested in Texans QB Deshaun Watson want legal issues resolved

Before the Houston Texans trade QB Deshaun Watson, there are teams that want the legal issues resolved first.

In order for the Houston Texans to finally complete a trade that sends quarterback Deshaun Watson to a new NFL city, a huge hurdle must be cleared.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, teams that are interested in making a deal with the Texans, including the Miami Dolphins, want the three-time Pro Bowler’s legal issues resolved.

The legal issues are more severe than the nonpayment of a jewelry bill. Watson has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women allege he committed sexual assault. The NFL is currently investigating the matter, and 10 criminal complaints have been filed with the Houston Police Department. There is concern that Watson would be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list after his new team gave up a boatload of picks for the reigning NFL passing champion.

The Carolina Panthers are a team that has entered the talks after their 25-3 loss to the New York Giants in Week 7. Josina Anderson has also reported that other teams are interested.

Texans coach David Culley says key is to block out noise with Nov. 2 trade deadline approaching

Houston Texans coach David Culley says the team has to tune out the noise of the trade rumors as the Nov. 2 deadline approaches.

The Houston Texans are 1-6 and figure to be sellers at the trade deadline, regardless of the trade situation with quarterback Deshaun Watson, which is its own fiasco.

Coach David Culley told reporters Monday that the key to keeping his team singular in focus and not worried about who may be dealt at the Nov. 2 trade deadline is to tune out the noise from beyond the walls of NRG Stadium.

“You just said a word that we use all the time: ‘block out the outside, what’s happening and what’s being said,'” Culley said. “Basically, the most important thing is what’s inside this locker room. We don’t ever talk about it. We basically just try to do the things that I just mentioned that we have to get better on.”

The Texans take on the 6-1 Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 31 at NRG Stadium. Houston is trying to snap a six-game losing streak, and Culley knows the secret to doing so.

Said Culley: “Eliminate the penalties, eliminate the big plays and tackling and we do that. That’s all our discussion is and that’s all we ever hear about in our dressing room.”

5 Texans who should be dealt at the Nov. 2 trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 2. Here are five players the Houston Texans should consider dealing to another team.

The 2021 Houston Texans appear to be a lost cause as Week 7 comes to a close.

The Texans are 1-6 and can look forward to hosting the 6-1 Los Angeles Rams at NRG Stadium. The Rams are in the same division as the 7-0 Arizona Cardinals, and can ill afford to have any crooked numbers in the loss column.

Meanwhile the Tennessee Titans are running away with the division at 5-2, and the Indianapolis Colts appear to have found their stride. The question now becomes whether the Texans can stay above the Jacksonville Jaguars to avoid the AFC South basement.

As such, it’s Houston’s job to do a review of their roster and extract maximum value for players who don’t project well into the 2022 team.

Of course, the inevitable Deshaun Watson transaction will take care of itself, and won’t be included in this list.

Here are five players the Texans ought to consider trading at the Nov. 2 trade deadline.

Texans WR Brandin Cooks says ‘I’m not going to accept any more trades’

Receiver Brandin Cooks says the Houston Texans need to think twice if they think about trading him in the 2021 offseason.

Brandin Cooks has been traded traded more than the login credentials to a streaming service.

The former 2014 first-round receiver has played for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, and the Houston Texans since 2016. Teams have paid a premium for his services, and he has delivered. However, the 27-year-old is going to put his foot down.

“As far as the team, they could trade me for draft capital, I’d caution them to think twice because quite frankly I’m not going to accept any more trades,” Cooks said. “For me, if you want me off your team, you’re just going to have to let me walk and choose my destination. For me, I’ve got a newborn son at home and he’s looking for someone to set an example, so, I think it’s me starting to stand firm when it comes to my career.”

Cooks has caught 70 catches for 984 yards and four touchdowns. Unless he gets completely shutout against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17, he will earn the fifth 1,000-yard receiving campaign in his seven seasons in the NFL.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is another elite signal caller that Cooks has had the luxury to play with. However, Houston is lacking their first and second round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and could be looking to scrap the roster for draft capital. Cooks fits the bill given there are no more guarantees on his contract.

“When it comes to playing here and playing with Deshaun, I would love to continue that growth but that’s out of my hands,” said Cooks. “Those are decisions that I don’t make, and would hope the team sees the growth that we’ve been having and continue to show that commitment and grow over the years.”

The Texans’ offseason situation with a new coach and general manager incoming doesn’t give Cooks any anxiety.

“For me, as a guy who’s been traded multiple times for first-round picks and produced at a high level, I don’t think about that,” Cooks said. “I understand that we’re in a unique situation. For me, Four [Watson] is a special player and I would continue to love to grow with him.”
