Seahawks TE Greg Olsen reminded once again he’s no ‘spring chicken’

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen, 14-year-veteran of the NFL, will have played with DK Metcalf and his father, Terrence Metcalf.

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen is busy adjusting to life on a new team, working through first a virtual offseason and then padded practices during training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

And all the while, the 14-year-veteran is constantly reminded (in the nicest of ways) that he’s no longer a youngster in the league.

“Every time someone brings it up, it just reminds me that I’m not a spring chicken anymore,” Olsen said during his appearance on Inside Training Camp Live. “I’ve been doing this a long time.”

Olsen was referring to the fact that he played with DK Metcalf’s father, Terrence, in Chicago the two seasons they were together on the Bears’ roster in 2007 and 2008. He is now catching passes alongside the younger Metcalf in Seattle.

“I got to catch up with DK’s dad Terrence just a couple weeks ago,” Olsen explained. “DK and I ran some routes before we started back up and his dad was in town and we got to visit and spend some time . . . It’s a pretty cool thing. I take some pride in it, knowing that it’s not easy to stick around in this league a long time but it’s definitely a reminder that sometimes it’s hard keeping up with these young guys.”

Seahawks TE Greg Olsen has played in NFL with DK Metcalf and his dad

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen has played in NFL with DK Metcalf and his dad, Terrence, who was a guard for the Bears in the 2000s.

There is no denying tight end Greg Olsen is a seasoned veteran of the National Football League, but just how seasoned is he? Well, Olsen is “experienced” enough to have now played in the NFL with Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf and Metcalf’s DAD, Terrence.

Metcalf’s father spent seven seasons in the league as a guard for the Bears, where Olsen began his career in 2007. Although the two only spent a couple of years together on the roster, the time wasn’t forgotten.

Metcalf recounted a story for reporters during his Zoom press conference on Thursday.

“Like a month ago, me and Greg worked out and I brought my dad up there with me, and how they rekindled an old flame was kind of funny, because they just started smiling,” Metcalf said. “And Greg was like, ‘I’ve got to tell you about some stories in the locker room,’ and all of that. So, I mean, it looked like they had a pretty good relationship. But me just learning from Greg, it’s been great. He’s been teaching me a lot this offseason, since he’s been in the league, probably, what, 20 years now?

For the record, Olsen was selected by the Bears in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, so he has a few more seasons to play before he hits the 20-year mark.

“He’s a great player, great tight end, and just to learn from him, it’s going to be special,” Metcalf said with a smile.

Greg Olsen played with DK Metcalf’s father Terrence as a Bear

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen joined the Dan Patrick Show to discuss the fact that he played with Terrence Metcalf, DK’s father.

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen recently joined the Dan Patrick Show to discuss his NFL future and mentioned the fact that he played with Terrence Metcalf, the father of current Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, during his time with the Chicago Bears early in his career.

“I actually played in Chicago with DK Metcalf’s father. So that’s how old I am/how young he is,” Olsen said. “So this is going to be the first time in my career that I will play with a father and son. His father was Terrence Metcalf. He was one of our offensive linemen in Chicago my first year or so up there and here I am all these years later playing with his kid.”

Russell Wilson will have many offensive weapons at his disposal during the 2020 NFL season, including Olsen and Metcalf. Tyler Lockett and Will Dissly only add to the embarrassment of riches. 2020 is looking to be a very successful season for the Seahawks, provided the COVID-19 outbreak subsides.

Greg Olsen played with DK Metcalf’s dad, Terrence, in the NFL

New Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen was teammates with DK Metcalf’s dad, Terrence Metcalf, while with the Chicago Bears in 2007/2008.

When the Seattle Seahawks signed tight end Greg Olsen away from the broadcast booth, they knew they were getting a veteran player who is on the older side of the coin, at least compared to his peers.

Perhaps nothing further emphasizes Olsen’s longevity in the league than the fact that he will play the 2020 season alongside the son of one of his former teammates.

Olsen was teammates with offensive lineman Terrence Metcalf while on the Bears in 2007 and 2008. Metcalf’s son, DK Metcalf, was ten years old when Olsen first joined the Bears as a rookie out of Miami.

Now, Metcalf is Seattle’s No. 2 receiver, coming off an excellent rookie season that saw him rack up 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. He will be teammates with Olsen, who turns 35 in less than a week and is entering his 13th NFL season.

“I actually played in Chicago with DK Metcalf’s father. So that’s how old I am/how young he is,” Olsen said. “So this is going to be the first time in my career that I will play with a father and son. His father was Terrence Metcalf. He was one of our offensive lineman in Chicago my first year or so up there and here I am all these years later playing with his kid.”

Olsen is expected to be a complement to Will Dissly at the tight end position in 2020, and gives Seattle a much-needed veteran presence and steady pass-catcher for Russell Wilson.
