Teofimo Lopez Jr. looks certain to face mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr. in his next fight after saying he won’t give up any of his belts and the Australian has no interest in “step-aside” money.

Lopez holds all four major 135-pound titles after defeating Vasiliy Lomachenko on Oct. 17. Two weeks later, Kambosos rallied late in his fight with Lee Selby to win a decision and become the IBF’s mandatory challenger.

Lopez has said he is interested in facing contenders Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis but his primary goal is to keep his belts.

“The best way to explain it is this: If I don’t fight my mandatory, I gotta give up my IBF belt,” he said on The Ak & Barak Show. “And I just worked my ass off to get these belts. I’m not gonna let none of them go. So I gotta fight my mandatory.

[lawrence-related id=17027,17004,16532,15305]

“Even if we put money on the side and told [Kambosos and his handlers], ‘Hey, we want to do Devin Haney first,’ they ain’t interested. Because even though he’s my IBF mandatory, he knows he gets all the belts if he can beat me.

“He has an opportunity to become undisputed at this division and get the recognition. So no matter how much we could give them to step aside, they would rather take their chance at me to try and get all the belts.”

Of course, it’s likely that Lopez will fight twice in 2021. That could open a door for Haney or Davis later in the year.

“Oh yeah, absolutely,” Lopez said.  “As long as Haney keeps winning and actually fights opposition in the Top 10, because he hasn’t yet fought anyone Top 10 in the lightweight division, along with Gervonta Davis as well.

“The only person who has stepped up [against a top contender], who got dropped in the second round and got back up to win, was Ryan Garcia. These guys, they’ve gotta prove something.

“The same way I had to prove myself to be able to fight Lomachenko for all the belts. There ain’t no handouts. I’m not gonna give them things I had to work so hard for.”

IBF orders Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos title fight

The IBF has ordered a title fight between champion Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos.

Could George Kambosos Jr. be undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez’s next opponent?

The IBF has ordered a title fight between Lopez and his mandatory challenger, giving them 30 days to reach an agreement in order to avoid a purse bid.

Lopez, who won all four major titles in his victory over pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko on Oct. 17, could lose the IBF belt if he opts to fight a higher-profile opponent rather than Kambosos next.

Devin Haney, a secondary beltholder, has called out the 23-year-old Honduran-American.

Kambosos (19-0, 10 KOs) is coming off a split-decision victory over Lee Selby on Oct. 31, which made him the No. 1 contender. Kambosos is from Sydney, Australia.

Teofimo Lopez dares Davis, Haney and Garcia to fight him

Teofimo Lopez Jr. has responded to calls from fans and experts for the top lightweights to fight one another in 2021 by daring the Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia to step into the ring with him.

Lopez is the man to beat in a deep division following his victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko to become undisputed champion.

Lopez toldTMZ that if his rivals don’t fight him, it will show how much they fear him. He singled out Davis as a fighter who is avoiding him.

“I know y’all scared and s—, but let’s just make the fight happen for the fans,” Lopez said. “Let’s just do that. Don’t overprice yourselves.

“If y’all believe y’all the best and y’all think that y’all can take this, then let’s make the fight happen! Man, don’t be p—- about it.”

Lopez went on about Davis: “Yeah, he is [scared]. He is. He’s not scared of the opposition he’s facing right now because it’s light work. I mean he knocked out a 122-pounder (Leo Santa Cruz). C’mon, yo! I can do the same s— and I can do it better, in a better fashion.

“But hey, I take my hat off to [Davis]. He’s doing his thing and I congratulate all of them. Haney, Garcia, Tank. But when it comes to it man, I’m the king of the division. I’m the kingpin!”

The boxing community is hoping to see these four face off in one combination or another as the year progresses.

Garcia called out Davis after his victory over Luke Campbell this past Saturday in Dallas and also mentioned Haney, who was in attendance.

DAZN’s Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora said on “Jabs with Mannix and Mora” that they would like to see Garcia vs. Davis and Haney vs. Lopez, with the two winners then fighting one another.
