Will Texans WR Nico Collins see more reps vs. Titans?

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins saw a career-low in snaps during Monday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Houston Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys to prove who was the top team in Texas for 2024.

That wasn’t a surprise since fans rushed to the exits faster than Cooper Rush went through his progressions.

Fans were taken aback by the limited reps for No. 1 target Nico Collins. After missing five games on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury, many figured the fourth-year pro would be the focal point of the passing attack in Arlington.

Far from it, actually. Collins, who caught four passes for 54 yards, saw action in only 28 of Houston’s 60 offensive snaps, marking a career-low since 2021.

Was Collins on a snap count? According to Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, no, but Houston didn’t want to risk a setback that could derail the season goals further.

“Anytime you get a player like that back you are taking notes of how do we want to use him and how do we want to make sure we are being smart,” Slowik said Thursday. “If this game becomes a critical game at the end, we want him on the field so how do we make sure we are getting the best version of Nico when that happens?”

Houston, which secured a 34-10 win at AT&T Stadium, was content trusting its ground game. Joe Mixon scored three touchdowns and averaged 5.5 yards per run en route to finishing with 153 yards of offense.

C.J. Stroud wasn’t perfect, but he found a groove on crucial drives. The second-year passer finished 23-of-34 passing for 257 yards and an interception on a pass intended for Collins during the first quarter.

Houston (7-4) needs Collins for the offensive approach to remain at its peak. Throughout the first five weeks, Stroud and Collins were on a different level of consistency. Since his departure, there’s been evident regression in the passing game, tempo and consistency from the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

That should change as Collins continues to get back to full strength. The Texans play host to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has already been ruled out.

That should benefit Collins in man coverage, right? Perhaps, but Slowik mentioned that the Texans aren’t changing their approach on rep count until Collins is in direct swing.

“We are always going to approach it as we are going to try to be smart,” Slowik said. “The more often you can get a really good player on the field one hundred percent and not winded and being able to roll, we are going to do that as often as we can.”

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT.

Will Denico Autry play this week?: Update on Texans DL

Denico Autry is dealing with a knee injury suffered in Week 11’s win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium for an AFC South with the Tennessee Titans in Week 12, but one vital member of the defensive line could be out.

Defensive lineman Denico Autry suffered a lower-body injury during Monday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys. Will Anderson Jr. (ankle) has been improving,  but Houston needs consistency in its pass rush if it plans on winning multiple playoff games.

Will Autry be good to go for Sunday’s showdown? Here’s the latest on the veteran multi-purpose defensive lineman entering Thursday.

Denico Autry injury update

Autry left during the third quarter at AT&T Stadium with a knee injury and was limited for most of the final 15 minutes. While he did return and was never ruled out by Houston, his rep count was scarce.

The 11-year pro didn’t practice on Wednesday. He also didn’t practice Thursday afternoon, which tends to be Houston’s most strenuous practice throughout the week and provides a better indication of a player’s status.

The Texans have had two players miss practice during the week and still play the following Sunday. Defensive tackle Foley Fatukaski missed practice and returned for Friday’s walkthrough before appearing in Week 7 and Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers and Lions, respectively.

Tight end Dalton Schultz didn’t practice in Week 2 with an ankle injury but managed to suit in a win over the Chicago Bears.

If Autry were to return on Friday for walkthroughs, it’s a sign that he’s not expected to miss multiple games. Houston also has been keen on keeping players out if they’re not at 100 percent.

Both receiver Nico Collins and defensive back Kamari Lassiter returned for Friday’s practice and did not play in Week 10 and 11, respectively.

How long will Denico Autry be out?

Everything is based on the severity of the injury. Should Autry not practice on Friday, he’ll at least miss Sunday’s matchup against his former team. If he misses the start of next week’s practice, he could be out through the bye week.

Denico Autry stats

The stats might fool you this late into the season, but Autry has been one of Houston’s most consistent defenders over the past five games. He was suspended the first six games for violating the NFL’s substances of abuse policy and did not return until Week 7.

In five games, Autry has totaled nine tackles, three sacks and 11 QB hits.

Texans DL depth chart

Autry could be out, but Anderson could be back. Even if both were to be cleared, here’s a look at the Texans defensive end depth chart entering Sunday’s battle between AFC South rivals.

  • Will Anderson Jr.

  • Danielle Hunter
  • Denico Autry
  • Dylan Horton
  • Jerry Hughes

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT.

What uniforms will the Texans, Titans wear in Week 12?

Here’s what the Houston Texans will be wearing on Sunday afternoon against the Tennessee Titans.

A new week, a new uniform combination.

The Houston Texans return home to take on the Tennessee Titans in what could factor into a division-clinching moment in Week 13. With a victory, Houston (7-4) would improve to 4-0 in the AFC South with Jacksonville on the horizon.

Houston will dress to impress with its blue tops and white pants. The blue helmet will also return this week, leading to conversations on when fans could see the H-Town or Battle Red combo later this fall.

Here’s a look at the design below:

The Texans should be in better shape on offense with the return of receiver Nico Collins, who led the Texans with four catches for 54 yards in Monday’s win over the Cowboys. Houston also is expected to have back cornerback Kamari Lassiter and could see defensive end Will Anderson Jr. take the field for the first time since Week 9.

Second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud has struggled at times during Collins’ five-game hiatus. With the fourth-year starter in the lineup, the offense averaged 277 yards through the air while Stroud completed 69% of his passes.

Without Collins, Houston has averaged 197.2  passing yards per game. Stroud completed just 55% of his throws.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT.
