Former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi still has very close ties with the organization. He spent all 13 of his NFL seasons in Foxborough and stood alongside Tom Brady for three Super Bowl victories.
Brady, entering season No. 21 next year, is going through an unfamiliar process with free agency. He’s never entered free agency in his career and he doesn’t plan to retire at the age of 42 — so, speculation about his future will be in the spotlight until he makes a decision.
Bruschi, along with everyone else, isn’t sure where Brady will land. But, he has a hunch that it won’t be with another team.
“It’s good (that Josh McDaniels is back). It makes Tom feel comfortable about him being there,” Bruschi said Wednesday on WEEI’s ‘Ordway, Merloni & Fauria‘. “I think either way, the more I think about it, it’s just the right thing for both parties involved for Brady to return. It’s leverage season and Brady is going to go out there and hear the offers and the offers are going to be elite and people are going to talk about it. The Patriots are going to come and meet him in the middle ground.
“Eventually, I think Tom Brady is back in New England. It’s not only best for Brady, but it is best for the Patriots. I think that is what is going to happen.”
It’s very possible that Brady is letting the situation play out for leverage, with full intention of returning to New England. The Patriots have until March 18 to convince Brady to stay, and after that, anything could potentially happen.
