Florida put two players on scholarship Friday, according to Swamp247.
Defensive lineman [autotag]Keenan Landry[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Taylor Spierto[/autotag] both joined the team as walk-ons but have since earned a spot on the scholarship roster, which is now two spots shy of a possible 85 total.
Landry played nine games with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2021 before joining the program as a preferred walk-on a year ago. He redshirted after appearing in one game (Eastern Washington) and has only played in one game so far through eight weeks in 2023.
Although he hasn’t received much playing time, Landry passed up scholarships from FIU, Jacksonville State and even McNeese State, which is coincidentally the one game he’s played in this year. He joined UF hoping to earn a scholarship down the line, and he completed that goal.
Spierto is a different story. He’s played in all seven of Florida’s games this year, either on offense as a receiver or on special teams. He’s hauled in two receptions for 17 yards so far, earning him the scholarship.
It’s unclear if Florida intends to fill the final two spots on its scholarship roster. The departures of safeties Dakota Mitchell and Jadarrius Perkins have created space.
