Razorbacks lose defensive lineman to transfer portal

With the defensive line rotation becoming more clear, Arkansas lost a player vying for one of the jobs.

Arkansas’ defensive line had a lot of openings during camp this fall. It appears now that many of those first- and second-string jobs are taken.

That’s because defensive lineman Taylor Lewis reportedly entered the transfer portal this week. He’s the second player from the Arkansas roster to do so, joining wide receiver Jaqualyn Crawford, since camp began.

Lewis arrived in Fayetteville in the offseason after transferring from College of the Canyons in California where he was a solid junior-college player, having been recruited Auburn, Missouri, Nebraska and a host of Pac-12 schools.

Lewis was rarely mentioned during camp at Arkansas, though. Isaiah Nichols, Eric Gregory, Cameron Ball and Taurean Carter are expected to be the Razorbacks’ primary four players at defensive tackle.

Arkansas opens the season September 5 at home against Cincinnati.

JUCO Lineman to visit Lincoln by month end

Another JUCO prospect may help add depth to the defensive line!

A JUCO defensive lineman has announced his plans to visit the University of Nebraska. Rivals are reporting that Taylor Lewis is planning a visit to Lincoln on the weekend of May 27. It was back on May 12 that Lewis announced that defensive coordinator Erik Chinander had offered the lineman a scholarship to play for the Cornhuskers.

The 6’3″ 295-pound Lewis is a Kenwood, Illinois native who had been playing defensive tackle for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. He currently holds six Power Five scholarship offers. Joining the Huskers are Arkansas, Auburn, Missouri, Oregon State and Washington State. The WSU Cougars are the only Power Five school that Lewis has visited during his recruitment process though he does have plans to visit Oregon State later this month as well as Lincoln.

Husker’s offer scholarship to JUCO lineman

The latest scholarship offer to a JUCO defensive lineman shows Nebraska is still looking to add depth for the Blackshirts.

Nebraska football continues to remain active in both the transfer portal and the junior college market with their latest scholarship offer to one of the top JUCO players remaining. Defensive lineman Taylor Lewis has announced that he received an offer from Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Eric Chinander to play for the Cornhuskers this upcoming season.

The 6’3″ 295-pound Kenwood, Illinois native had 19 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. For the last two seasons, the defensive tackle had been playing for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Lewis currently has offers from 17 Division I football programs, including Power 5 schools like Orgon State and Missouri. The Tigers offered Lewis less than 24 hours before Nebraska.

The Huskers continue to look for depth on the interior of the defensive line after the departures of Casey Rogers and Jordon Riley to the University of Oregon. Both will now play under former Husker and current Duck’s defensive line coach Tony Tuioti.

Taylor Lewis is expected to make an official announcement by the end of May.
