Auburn 4-star power forward target Nic Codie sets commitment date

Auburn is one of seven finalist for the elite power forward.

[autotag]Nic Codie[/autotag] is one of the top power forwards in the country and on July 25,  he included Auburn in his top seven schools. The Carrollton, Texas, product is now ready to wrap up his recruitment and has set a commitment date of Nov. 2.

He will be deciding between Auburn, Houston, LSU, Miami, TCU, Texas and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-9, 200-pounder has visited each school but Auburn but has an official visit set for Oct. 20.

That visit will allow him a chance to check out what Auburn fans are like during a game as the football team will be hosting Ole Miss, a tactic that [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] has frequently used on key targets.

Codie is the No. 51 overall player and No. 10 power forward in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Texas.

Auburn currently has one commitment in the 2024 recruiting cycle, five-star point guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag].

Auburn target Cam Scott gives update on recruiting process

Auburn target Cam Scott shares a recruiting update with On3’s Jamie Shaw.

[autotag]Cam Scott[/autotag], a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, is the No. 19 player in the class of 2024 according to On3. In an interview with Jamie Shaw of On3, Scott updated his recruitment.

Scott has taken four official visits. Other than Auburn, Scott has visited Oregon, South Carolina and Texas.

“I took early visits to Texas, Auburn and South Carolina,” Scott said. “They are all three absolutely still involved in my recruitment. My family and I have talked about revisiting those schools. However, there is only a certain amount of free time I have between now and when I commit, we are trying to see when and if we can fit anything in.”

Scott specifically talked about Auburn as well.

“Since the visit, I’ve been able to build my connection with the players. I already had a connection with the coaches and Coach (Bruce) Pearl when I went on the visit. Now I’m just building with some of the guys who are already there.”

There is plenty of competition for Scott’s commitment.

“I’ve got a visit scheduled to Ole Miss on Sept. 30,” Scott said. “We’re in the process of planning an Alabama visit soon too. Southern California recently offered as well, and they are talking about a visit. We are trying to see if we can fit one in with the time frame.”

Scott also elaborated on when a commitment can be expected.

“I don’t have a top group, and I probably won’t narrow my recruitment down at all before I pick a school,” Scott said. “I don’t have an exact date yet, but I’d like to commit before school ball starts. Sometime between Peach Jam and school ball starting.

“I want to go somewhere I can just zone out and get better. For me, player development is going to be big. I’ll be going into an entirely different playing field, so being able to just focus on myself and get better. I can see myself playing in most any system, I’m going to pick a school where I can best showcase my talent and feel comfortable.”

Auburn has one commit for the 2024 class, five-star guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag]. Auburn is still in the hunt for [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag], although he recently decommitted from the program.

4-star combo guard Labaron Philon decommits from Auburn

Auburn has lost its second commit in the past seven days.

Auburn has lost the second member of its 2024 recruiting class as four-star combo guard [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] decommited from Auburn on Friday, he announced the news on his Instagram.

“First off, I would like to thank Bruce Pearl, his staff and fans for recruiting me along this journey!” Philon wrote. “After the news of changes in the program and staff, me and my family have to think about my future. With that being said, I would like to re-open my recruitment. Truly and extremely blessed to be recruited by the Auburn family! Can’t thank you guys enough!”

The move comes after assistant coach [autotag]Wes Flanigan[/autotag] left Auburn this offseason to join Chris Beard’s staff at Ole Miss. Flanigan was Philon’s primary recruiter.

Philon is the No. 41 overall player and No. 6 combo guard in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Baker native is also the No. 1 player from Alabama in the 2024 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-4, 177-pounder averaged 34.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists for Baker last season. He was named the MaxPreps, Gatorade, and Alabama Mr. Basketball of the Year for his work.

Five-star point guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] is Auburn’s lone commitment after Philon and four-star center Peyton Marshall backed off their pledges to Auburn.

Auburn commit makes MaxPreps all-junior second team

This 2024 guard is making headlines following his junior season.

MaxPreps released its 2022-23 all-junior team lists and 2024 Auburn commit [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] made the second team list.

The 6’4″ guard from Mobile attends Baker High School.

“Led the Hornets (25-7) to the Class 7A state quarterfinals after averaging 35.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 52 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line. He scored a career-high 51 points in November.”

Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 3 in the country via 247 Sports. Philon is joined by [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] and [autotag]Peyton Marshall[/autotag].

2024 guard Cam Scott enjoys Auburn visit

Auburn is working to add another talented guard to its’ already impressive 2024 haul.

[autotag]Cam Smith[/autotag], one of the top-25 players in the class of 2024, enjoyed his Auburn visit.

“I love Auburn,” Smith said in an interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I’m not even going to lie to you. Being down there, it was a really comfortable environment.”

Per On3, Scott is the No. 23 player in the class of 2024, the No. 5 shooting guard, and the No. 1 player in South Carolina. On3 says that Scott is a lengthy wing player, and will allow the game to flow smoothly.

The natural tools are very impressive all the way around. Scott has a mature game, plays within the flow of the offense, rarely forces things.

Apart from Auburn, Scott holds offers from many notable programs such as South Carolina, Texas, Florida State, North Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, Kansas, and Alabama. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, South Carolina has a 42% chance to land his commitment, but Auburn is next in line.

Scott could potentially join an Auburn class that includes five-star point guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag], four-star point guard [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag], and four-star center [autotag]Peyton Marshall[/autotag].

Bruce Pearl on the hot seat? One site makes appalling claim

There is zero chance this writer is serious… right?

It was announced Friday that Ole Miss had parted ways with head coach Kermit Davis after a five-year tenure that ended with a 74-79 record and just one NCAA Tournament appearance.

After the news broke, Razorbacks Wire editor E. Wayne made a list of current SEC coaches that could be next to get the boot from their respective programs. Auburn head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] made the list, of course, but his placement on this list is quite surprising.

According to E. Wayne, Pearl is the third-highest coach on the list, trailing Kentucky’s John Calipari and Vanderbilt’s Jerry Stackhouse, who is apparently in the hottest of seats within the conference. Here is what E. Wayne says about Pearl’s job status:

Only three coaches in and we’re already to the “He’s not going anywhere” part of the conversation. Still, we are placing Pearl as No. 3 on the hot seat. Auburn has a Final Four on his watch, but it was back in 2019, which is a whole generation of players ago. Falling in the second round last year was a major disappointment and if the Tigers don’t watch out, they could be out of this year’s NCAA Tournament. They should be fine, of course, but a Sweet 16 would cool things.

Sure, Auburn has hit a bit of a rough patch this season by winning just four of their last ten games, but Pearl’s impact on Auburn Basketball is unmatched.

In nine seasons on the Plains, Pearl has won 185 games, which is the most games that he has won at any program that he has led. Auburn has also won three SEC championships during Pearl’s tenure, and six players have made it to the NBA under his watch.

The future is also bright for Auburn as well. The Tigers have three commits that rank in the top 100, led by [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag], which is Auburn’s third-highest-rated commit in history. In fact, nine of Auburn’s top 10 signees in history have been works of Pearl.

Auburn basketball is in a great place under Pearl. While E. Wayne’s list is considered to be hyperbole, Pearl’s seat should be considered one of the most secure in the SEC.

Auburn basketball recruits two blue chip point guards for ’24 class

Coach Pearl wasn’t done yet, though.

Auburn started the 2024 recruiting cycle slow, but they’ve made up for it with a couple of major commitments over the last several days.

On Wednesday, Hudson Catholic (NJ) five-star point guard Tahaad Pettiford told Joe Tipton at On3 that he’s committed to Auburn hoops. Pettiford is confident head coach Bruce Pearl will help prepare him for the next level.

“I chose Auburn because I feel like Coach Bruce Pearl is going to prepare me for the next level, I loved the environment and the energy on campus from everyone. It made me feel like it was a second home.”

With a composite score of 0.9919, Pettiford (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) is the third-highest ranked recruit in the program’s history. In the class of 2024 he’s ranked third among point guards and No. 22 overall.

Coach Pearl wasn’t done yet, though. On Friday, the team added another highly-ranked prospect. Baker (Ala.) four-star point guard Labaron Philon also announced for Auburn.

Philon (6-foot-4, 177 pounds) is the top-ranked player in the state of Alabama. He’s also ninth at his position and No. 41 overall in the class.

Together, these two gave a big boost to the Tigers’ recruiting ranking. While it’s still very early in the game, they’re now ranked third in the nation behind North Carolina and Baylor.

The highest rated commits in Auburn basketball history

Bruce Pearl continues to bring elite talent to the Plains and has no sign of slowing down.

Auburn basketball has become a recruiting powerhouse under [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and this past was one of the best since he took over in 2014.

The Tigers landed two elite guards in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Five-star point guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] committed to the Tigers on Wednesday and is now one of the highest-rated commits in program history.

Pearl followed that up by landing four-star combo guard and the top player from Alabama [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] on Friday.

The addition of them gives Auburn the No. 3 recruiting class in the country and is all but assured to be the best class in program history. While there is still a ton of time before they are able to sign with the Tigers, here is a look at where they rank among Auburn’s highest-rated players in program history using the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Twitter reacts to Auburn landing 4-star point guard Labaron Philon

Auburn is building one of the best recruiting classes in the country.

[autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and Co. are having quite a week. Not only did they land a commitment from five-star point guard [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] on Wednesday but they also crushed the Georgia Bulldogs 94-73 in Neville Arena.

The week got even better on Friday when four-star point guard [autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] committed to the Tigers. Philon is the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama for the 2024 recruiting cycle and the third commitment of the Tigers class.

His addition to Pettiford and four-star center [autotag]Peyton Marshall[/autotag] gives Auburn the No. 3 recruiting class in the 247Sports team ranking and a great shot at signing their best class in program history.

The Auburn fans took to Twitter to celebrate the Tiger’s big week, here are the top reactions.

Labaron Philon, the No. 1 player in Alabama, commits to Auburn

With Philon and five-star Tahaad Pettiford Auburn has one of the best backcourt tandems in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

[autotag]Labaron Philon[/autotag] is the consensus No. 1 player in the state of Alabama and he is now an Auburn Tiger.

The four-star guard from Mobile picked the Tigers over Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Kansas. He is Auburn’s second commitment of the week and with five-star [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] gives Auburn one of the best backcourts in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Philon is the No. 41 overall player and No. 9 point guard in the 247Sports composite ranking. Measuring in at 6-foot-4, and 177 pounds he will likely play more of a combo guard role in [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag]’s offense while Pettiford handles more of the point guard duties.

While Philon can distribute and could certainly play some point guard at Auburn, he is a scorer first and foremost. He was the Class 7A Player of the Year as a sophomore and has been even better as a junior. He is averaging 36.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for Baker High School.

His addition gives Auburn the No. 3 ranked recruiting class in the country, behind only North Carolina and Baylor. In addition to Philon and Pettiford the Tigers also have a commitment from four-star center [autotag]Peyton Marshall[/autotag], the No. 86 player in the class.
