Blue-chip’s commitment to Florida ‘the same’ after Week 1 loss to Miami

The loss to Miami last Saturday did nothing to affect 4-star tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey’s commitment to the Florida Gators.

The Florida football took a punch to the gut last Saturday when the Miami Hurricanes blew through the Swamp to seize a 41-17 victory. It was the first home-opening loss for the Gators since 1989 and the points surrendered represent the most ever in that scenario.

The fallout from the devastating defeat has reached off the field, with fans and the media alike clamoring over the debacle witnessed inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Worse yet, there were many recruits on hand to witness the events, with reactions ranging from devastating to patient.

Among those on hand was four-star tight end commit Tae’shaun Gelsey out of Jacksonville (Florida) Riverside in the 2025 cycle, who verbally pledged to the Orange and Blue at the end of June. While others might be wavering in their interest, the pass-catching end remains resolved in his commitment to Billy Napier and Co.

Gelsey’s reaction to his Swamp visit

“The environment was crazy. That was the craziest environment I’ve been in,” Gelsey told Gators Online.

“It wasn’t the outcome everyone expected, but there is a lot of room for improvement. They are going to come out with the win this Saturday. They just need to clean up some things and they will be all right.”

Talking about the Miami loss

“I spoke to (tight ends) coach (Russ) Callaway before and after the game; I spoke to (Billy) Napier at the Gator Walk; I spoke to (quality control – wide receivers) coach (Chad) Lucas at Gator Walk, and then I talked to (wide receivers) coach Billy G(onzales) after the game, so I got the chance to talk to all of them,” Gelsey said.

“(Coach Callaway) was like, ‘That was hard to watch.’ But in my mind, our first week’s game was pretty much the same thing. We just had a bad game and the chemistry wasn’t there at the time, but we came back this week and won. I think they will do the same.”

Recruiting Summary

Gelsey is ranked No. 395 overall and No. 60 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 381 and 21, respectively.

Florida lands commitment from coveted in-state pass-catcher

Florida continues to add depth to its tight ends room with the commitment of Tae-shaun Gelsey out of Jacksonville Riverside.

The Florida Gators added another commitment to its 2025 recruiting class on Saturday. Jacksonville Riverside receiver [autotag]Tae’shaun Gelsey[/autotag] has pledged his services to the Orange and Blue.

“It’s the relationship I have with each coach,” Gelsey said to On3. “Everyone is just brought together and everybody is just family. They made me feel welcome and it’s just a great environment they have.”

Gelsey grew up watching the Gators and has been openly fond of the program throughout his recruitment. He thanked the coaches and staff on social media after his June official visit to UF.

Gelsey is a receiver in high school, but he should transition to tight end in college. That means Florida’s two-man tight ends class is complete. Madison Central’s (Miss.) Micah Jones committed to the Gators on June 21.

Recruiting Summary

Gelsey is a three-star recruit on both major composite rankings, but Rivals considers him a four-star talent.

The On3 industry ranking, which considers all four major recruiting services, put him at No. 710 overall in the class and No. 41 among tight ends. The 247Sports composite is more bearish on him, ranking Gelsey No. 548 nationally and No. 86 among wide receivers.

Florida Gators land coveted 4-star tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey

Tae’shaun Gelsey commits to the Florida Gators.

It was a big Saturday for the Florida Gators, who landed a commitment from Tae’Shaun Gelsey.

A class of 2025 recruit from Riverside (Jacksonville, Florida), Gelsey picked Florida over a final six that also included Auburn, UCF, Kentucky, Tulane and Wake Forest. Gelsey posted his top six on June 3.

A dual-sport athlete who also plays basketball, Gelsey is a match-up nightmare at the high school level. At 6-foot-10 and 210 pounds, Gelsey has a good catch radius and moves very well down the field.

Rivals ranks him as the No. 59 player in Florida and the No. 22 tight end prospect.

He took an official visit to Florida in the last week of May before taking a trip to Auburn. Last weekend, he was at Tulane.

He joins wide receiver Joshua Moore as one of two four-star commits in this Florida class.

Gelsey is the eighth commit for Florida in the 2025 class. Nationally, the class is ranked No. 65 by 247Sports.

Florida earns 247Sports crystal ball for coveted in-state wide receiver

The Gators appear to be peaking at the right time for this coveted 3-star pass-catcher out of Jacksonville.

A pair of crystal ball predictions were logged by 247Sport’s Blake Alderman on Tuesday morning, including three-star wide receiver Tae’shaun Gelsey out of Jacksonville (Florida) Riverside in the 2025 cycle.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 220-pound pass-catcher who projects more at the tight end position than as a wideout received a scholarship offer from the Gators in mid-May followed by an official visit with the program the weekend of May 31.

Florida had Gelsey in their sights long before the offer and OV.

“The offer just came, but they’ve always been recruiting me,” he said after receiving his offer. “So they aren’t new to me. I have a good relationship with them. Once they did offer, it was the icing on the cake. I feel like things are set now with them and they aren’t new. I just have the offer now, so they are bigger in the discussion right now.”

Gelsey previously had trips to see the Tulane Green Wave as well as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on his official visit slate, but those plans fell through. He had hinted at a commitment around July 13 but there have been rumors of an earlier decision date once his OV schedule concludes.

Recruiting Summary

Gelsey is ranked No. 464 overall and No. 73 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 671 and 41, respectively.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine overwhelmingly favors Florida for the Sunshine State product, giving them a 97.4% chance of landing him; Tulane is the only other school mentioned at 2.0%.
