Aspen Ladd vs. Sara McMann scratched from UFC Fight Night 210 after weight miss

Aspen Ladd’s inability to make weight has caused another one of her fights to be canceled.

[autotag]Aspen Ladd[/autotag]’s inability to make weight has caused another one of her fights to be canceled.

Ladd (9-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) came in two pounds heavy for her scheduled women’s bantamweight bout with [autotag]Sara McMann[/autotag] (13-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 210 on Saturday at the UFC Apex, and as a result the bout has been scrapped.

UFC officials announced the news following Friday’s UFC Fight Night 210 official weigh-in session.

It’s a bad look for Ladd, who has a well-documented history of poor weight cuts. In September 2018, Ladd missed weight and had a fight with Leslie Smith canceled after Smith declined to fight an overweight opponent. She had a frightening scene of trembling on the scale ahead of a July 2019 bout with Germaine de Randamie, which she ultimately hit the mark for, but suffered a quick TKO loss.

More recently, Ladd missed weight for a October 2021 fight with Macy Chiasson, which was canceled. She then competed at women’s featherweight for one fight – which she lost to Norma Dumont – before moving back down. She made women’s bantamweight for an April fight with Raquel Pennington before this latest incident.

UFC featherweight contenders Calvin Kattar, Arnold Allen agree to Oct. 29 main event

UFC featherweights Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen asked and now they’re on the verge of receiving, per multiple sources.

A big featherweight fight is being finalized for the final UFC event in the month of October.

Contenders [autotag]Arnold Allen[/autotag] and [autotag]Calvin Kattar[/autotag] have verbally agreed to fight Oct. 29 at a UFC Fight Night event expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Bout contracts haven’t been issued yet but are expected to be sent out and signed in the coming days.

Two people with knowledge of the targeted booking recently informed MMA Junkie of the matchup but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. ESPN first reported the news Wednesday.

The bout will go head-to-head with the boxing match between former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and YouTuber Jake Paul, which takes place the same night, in Phoenix.

Allen (18-1 MMA, 9-0 UFC) rides high after a March starching of Dan Hooker in London. Allen finished Hooker in 2:33 via TKO and called for a potential fight against Kattar. Still yet to lose in the UFC, Allen’s biggest opponent has been the injury bug – with multiple roadblocks in recent years. Despite this, Allen has racked up 11 wins in a row.

Meanwhile, Kattar (23-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is coming off a controversial June decision loss to Josh Emmett in Austin, Texas. Many fans and media members scored the fight for Kattar, who ultimately lost on split scorecards. Kattar is 3-2 in his five most recent bouts including a dominant win over Giga Chikadze in January.

With the addition, the Oct. 29 lineup includes:

  • Arnold Allen vs. Calvin Kattar
  • Edson Barboza vs. Ilia Topuria
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima
  • Dustin Jacoby vs. Khalil Rountree
  • Roman Dolidze vs. Phil Hawes
  • Max Griffin vs. Tim Means
  • Steve Garcia vs. Chase Hooper
  • Joseph Holmes vs. Jun Yong Park
  • Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Jared Vanderaa

Jared Cannonier vs. Sean Strickland to headline UFC Fight Night event on Dec. 17

Jared Cannonier vs. Sean Strickland has been re-scheduled.

[autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag]’s return has been booked.

The UFC middleweight contender is set to fight against [autotag]Jared Cannonier[/autotag] in the main event of the last UFC event of 2022, which goes down on Dec. 17 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news following an initial report by Helen Yee. MMA Junkie also confirmed the booking with sources after the first report.

The two middleweights were originally scheduled to fight in the main event of a UFC Fight Night on Oct. 15, but an infection on one of Strickland’s fingers forced the fight to get canceled. The promotion has kept the matchup and the headlining status intact, as the fight now lands at the top of the last card in December.

Strickland (25-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) is coming off a knockout loss at UFC 276 to Alex Pereira, who’s set to challenge champion Israel Adesanya on Nov. 12. Prior to the defeat, he was on a six-fight winning streak.

Meanwhile, Cannonier (15-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) will try to rebound from his title-fight loss to Israel Adesanya also at UFC 276 in July. “The Killa Gorilla” was 5-1 prior to the title fight with his lone loss being against former UFC champion Robert Whittaker.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin: 5 questions – and answers – going into trilogy

Here’s a primer for the third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin, which finally goes down Saturday in Las Vegas.

The third fight between [autotag]Canelo Alvarez[/autotag] and [autotag]Gennadiy Golovkin[/autotag] is just days away.

The future Hall of Famers fought to a disputed draw at middleweight in 2017, and Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) won a majority decision at the same weight the following year. They’ll finally meet a third time on pay-per-view this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, this time at super middleweight.

The biggest difference between the first two meetings – aside from the weight – is the perception that the 40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) is in decline, which leads many to believe this could be a one-sided fight in Alvarez’s favor.

At the same time, the star power of both men will undoubtedly fill the arena and attract millions of viewers worldwide.

Below are five questions – and answers – going into the trilogy.
