USA TODAY High School Sports will make Super 25 Regional Rankings for girls basketball this season as selected by the USA TODAY High School Sports staff with weekly rankings in five regions — Northeast, Midwest, South, Frontier and Pacific. Paul VI goes from unranked to second in Girls Basketball Super 25

At the expense of some of the best teams in the country, Paul VI (Fairfax, Virginia) is off to a 5-0 start.

Paul VI routed then-No. 10 Christ the King (Middle Village, New York) 64-26, and followed that up with a 67-58 victory over then-No. 12 Westlake (Atlanta).

FULL RANKINGS: Super 25 Girls Basketball Rankings, Week 2

Paul VI didn’t rank in the top 25 for Week 1, but those key wins plus a perfect start equaled a high spot in Week 2 of the rankings. The team came in at No. 2.

And it isn’t the only team that entered the top 10 of the ranks this week.

Westlake moved into the top 10 of the rankings this week after a 4-1 start to the year.

Other than Paul VI, there are four new teams to enter the rankings this week: Poly (Long Beach, California), Hazel Green (Hazel Green, Alabama), South Shore (Brooklyn, New York) and Lawrence North (Indianapolis).

USA TODAY High School Sports is revealing the 2018-19 Super 25 Preseason Girls Basketball Teams. The Super 25 has been a staple of USA TODAY for more than 30 years and highlights the best teams around the nation.

Star guard Peyton Verhulst followed up her well-rounded 2018-19 season of 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks per game by playing on the USA Basketball FIBA U-16 team. She’s only just entering junior year.

Bishop Miege has gone undefeated in three of the last five seasons, and the two years in between, the Stags went a combined 44-7. Spread that out one more season, and the team has won five championships in six years.

With all that experience and a winning pedigree in a proven system to go with the talent on the team, more success seems a foregone conclusion.
