5 things we learned from Netflix’s Tudum event, including Stranger Things and Squid Game casting news

Netflix gave fans some exciting updates on some of its biggest projects at this year’s Tudum.

If you’re a fan of Netflix, some of the platform’s biggest shows unveiled brand-new updates as part of the global Tudum event.

Tudum is a bit like a virtual Comic Con presentation for Netflix fans, where personalities from various television and film projects share updates about what’s coming down the pipeline for their work.

Stranger Things and Squid Game fans got some exciting casting updates for the upcoming seasons of those shows, while Netflix provided sneak peaks at upcoming live-action adaptations like Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Piece.

Wednesday fans even got to hear from the cast about season 2.

Here are the big five things we saw at this year’s Tudum, sure to leave you hopping on Netflix to prepare yourself for what’s to come.

‘Stranger Things’ fans love the Easter Egg when they call the Surfer Boy Pizza phone number

Hear from Stranger Things’ Argyle if you dial the number for Surfer Boy Pizza!

Argyle, the pizza delivery dude who’s Jonathan Byers’ best buddy in Season 4 of Stranger Things, is one of the funniest things about a very intense series.

It turns out there’s an Easter Egg involving the phone number for Surfer Boy Pizza, which employs Argyle.

If you dial 805-45-PIZZA (4992), you can actually hear from Argyle, who sort of puts you on hold and then talks about a VERY specific pizza order that he’s received that includes habaneros, green pepper slices and “one, just one, piece of blue cheese on top.”

It’s kind of delightful, and fans of the Netflix show loved it:

An incredible, emotional ‘Stranger Things’ scene sent a 1985 Kate Bush single to No. 1

A song that’s nearly 40 years old is getting so many listens.

WARNING: STRANGER THINGS SCENE FROM SEASON 4 AHEAD! IF YOU DON’T WANT IT SPOILED, STOP READING!

Ready?

OK.

So, full disclosure: I haven’t watched Season 4 of Stranger Things yet — I know, I know, I’m getting to it this week, I swear — but I’ve seen the news about a Kate Bush song from all the way back in 1985 going to No. 1 on the  iTunes chart.

I had to look into it myself, because what kind of scene would suddenly make a bunch of people stream Kate Bush decades later?

It turns out there’s an emotional, incredible scene that led to the song climbing the charts again:

6 important questions we have after the new, awesome ‘Stranger Things 4’ trailer dropped

It’s back!

WARNING: STRANGER THINGS SPOILERS FROM SEASONS 1 THROUGH 3 AHEAD, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THEM YET.

Ready?

OK!

Stranger Things is coming back for a double-dose of 1980s sci-fi soon.

The Netflix series is about to start its fourth season, and on Tuesday, we got the trailer fans have been waiting for. Although we know a certain man of the law who we thought might be dead by the end of Season 3 is, in fact, alive, there was still a lot to dissect from that trailer that was full of some weird, wild stuff.

Let’s break down what we all saw:

Netflix gets into video games with its mobile app

Netflix is making video games now, and they’re free if you have a subscription!

Netflix Games is updating its mobile app on Nov. 3 for Android and iOS later on to include video games.

The Netflix Mobile App will come with five games at release. Two of them are based on the wildly popular Stranger Things  series, while three are original titles.

Games that’ll be available on the Netflix Mobile App at launch include:

  • Stranger Things: 1984
  • Stranger Things 3
  • Shooting Hoops
  • Card Blast
  • Teeter Up

Netflix claims there are more exclusive games on the way for Netflix Games, and there will be no extra fees or in-app purchases. You will need a Netflix subscription to play any of the games, though.

New ‘Stranger Things 4’ teaser hints at possible return of an evil character

HMMMM!

WARNING: STRANGER THINGS SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU DIDN’T FINISH SEASON 3, STOP READING!

Ready? OK!

We already know from a Stranger Things 4 teaser a year ago that it appears Jim Hopper (David Harbour) isn’t dead, something fans of the Netflix series mostly expected.

But now there’s a new teaser dropped on Thursday, and it looks like someone else might be coming back from the dead. As you’ll see below, it looks like a throwback to when Eleven and other gifted children were under the watch of Dr. Martin Brenner (AKA “Papa,” played by Matthew Modine) … but then we hear “Eleven, are you listening?”

Cut to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) maybe hearing that in the modern day?? Is it a flashback? Both?

HMMMMMMMMM!

Was he not killed by a Demogorgon? We’ll see!

The incredible new ‘Stranger Things 4’ trailer delivered the spoiler everyone expected

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE THIRD SEASON OF STRANGER THINGS, STOP READING IMMEDIATELY! THERE IS A MAJOR SPOILER BELOW!

Ready?

Okay. Here we go.

I have only one reaction to the teaser that Stranger Things decided to drop on Valentine’s Day: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

That said, it confirmed everything we thought after the end of the third season: we expected Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) the heroic police officer in Hawkins to be alive despite the fact he disappeared and appeared to die. Thanks to a post-credits sequence that talked about “the American” and took place in Russia, we all assumed Hopper was who was being referred to.

Well, it looks like that was the case:

There are a lot of questions we have after watching this. What are they building a railroad for, exactly? Why did Hopper lose all his hair?

Whatever. All that matters is Hopper is alive. Thank goodness.
