Three Wagner football players earn NECFB Weekly Awards

Three Wagner players make weekly NEC honors.

After suffering their first loss of the season against Michigan last week, the Scarlet Knights will be looking for redemption on Saturday against Wagner. While Rutgers will be the favorite heading into this non-conference matchup, they will face a Wagner team that recently had three players win NECFB Weekly Awards.

In Wagner’s win over Merrimack, Steven Krajewski, Junior Wily, and Jaylen Bonelli all shined. They each impacted different areas of the game, and as a result, Wagner got its second straight win. For the talented trio, it is a game that will stick with them.

As Wagner’s offense scored 28 points, Krajewski factored into all four of their touchdowns. The talented graduate student accounted for 160 yards of total offense while recording two throwing touchdowns. He also recorded two rushing touchdowns as he was named the NEC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

While Krajewski shined on offense, Wily set the tone on defense. The talented senior recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops. He also recorded an interception, which helped turn the game in Wagner’s favor. It was the second straight week he earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Rounding out the trio is Bonelli, who is making an impact in his first season with Wagner. The talented freshman caught his first touchdown pass and recorded 45 rushing yards on two carries. In clutch situations, the Florida native continued to thrive by scoring the go-ahead touchdown as he was named the Rookie of the Week.

As Wagner’s looks to improve to 3-2, they have a tight task ahead on Saturday against a 3-1 Rutgers team. They will again need big games from Krajewski, Wily, and Bonelli.
