Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns Week 8 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) hit the road in Week 8 to face the AFC North division-rival Cleveland Browns (4-3) Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS. Below, we look at the Steelers vs. Browns odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Steelers have won consecutive games for the first time this season. Last time out they posted a 23-20 overtime win against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6 prior to their bye. However, Pittsburgh is just 1-4 ATS across its last five games.

The Browns posted a 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos last Thursday in Week 7 behind backup QB Case Keenum, with QB Baker Mayfield resting his injured non-throwing shoulder. Mayfield is set to return this week, as is RB Nick Chubb, who missed the last two weeks.

Steelers at Browns odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Steelers 22, Browns 16

Money line

STEELERS (+170) is a great value on the road against the banged-up Browns. Cleveland has RB Kareem Hunt on IR, Chubb returning from injury and who knows what it’s going to get from Mayfield.

QB Ben Roethlisberger has been better lately after a slow start. He completed a season-best 72.5 percent of his passes in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Against the spread

The STEELERS +4.5 (-115) have dominated this series against the number over the years. While Pittsburgh is just 1-4 ATS in the past five games overall, it is 25-9-2 ATS in its last 36 as an underdog. Health is important too, and the Steelers just aren’t as banged up in the skill positions as the Browns.

Over/Under

The UNDER 41.5 (-108) is the lean, but it’s only worth a small-unit play. The Under has connected in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams in Cleveland, and the Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 for the Steelers as road underdogs.

Steelers at Browns: Game notes

  • The Steelers finally wrapped up the AFC North Division title last weekend, so they are electing to rest some of their key starters, including QB Ben Roethlisberger. QB Mason Rudolph will make the start against the Browns, who need to win to get into the playoffs. S Terrell Edmunds, DE Cam Heyward, C Maurkice Pouncey, FB Derek Watt and LB T.J. Watt will also sit.
  • The Browns were missing WRs Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge, their top four receivers, last weekend in a loss to the New York Jets. They have been removed from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, and will be ready for Sunday’s game.
  • Browns TE Harrison Bryant, LB Malcolm Smith and CB Denzel Ward Jr. each tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the weekand landed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed in the latest round of testing the team had no new positive cases among players. S Karl Joseph was activated from the list.
  • The Steelers are also dealing with players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, as TE Eric Ebron landed on the list Saturday, joining CB Joe Haden and LB Cassius Marsh.
  • Cleveland has dropped two of its past three games, while also going just 1-2 ATS. The Browns need a win to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2002. Cleveland is 3-7 ATS across its past 10 games, too.

Steelers at Browns: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Browns 27, Steelers 13

Money line (?)

The Browns (-450) are overwhelming favorites against a Steelers side which will be a shell of itself with plenty of players rested, and others out due to COVID protocols. There is no excuse for the Browns not to get the win against this subpar group of reserves from Pittsburgh, but they’re still the Browns. Nothing is ever easy.

AVOID.

Against the spread (?)

The BROWNS -9.5 (-110) are just 2-3 ATS as favorites of 6 or more points this season, and this is their biggest number of the season. Cleveland is expected to win and punch its ticket to the postseason, and it should be able to do it by more than two scores.

Over/Under (?)

UNDER 43.5 (-110) is the lean here, as the Pittsburgh offense will not be terribly deep, and Cleveland’s strength is in the run game. Under bettors love running teams, because they keep the clock moving.

Cleveland Browns favored over visiting Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17

The Cleveland Browns are the betting favorites in their Week 17 home game vs the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (12-3) visit the Cleveland Browns (10-5) Sunday of Week 17 at 1 p.m. ET at FirstEnergy Stadium. Below, we take a look at the early Steelers-Browns betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

The Steelers fell behind 21-7 at halftime in Week 16 against the visiting Indianapolis Colts, and it appeared they might be well on their way to a fourth consecutive setback. A loss would have changed the complexion of Sunday’s Week 17 matchup in Cleveland dramatically. However, veteran QB Ben Roethlisberger tossed three second-half touchdowns to rally the troops to a 28-24 win to clinch the AFC North Division title, helping the Steelers stop squashing grapes and finally making a tasty sipping win. You’ll have to ask head coach Mike Tomlin exactly what that means. Pittsburgh spanked Cleveland at Heinz Field by a 38-7 score, easily covering a 3-point number back in Week 6 as the Under (50) connected. In Week 17, with the AFC North sewn up, will the Steelers rest some players? Conventional wisdom says yes, somewhat, but Tomlin isn’t always conventional, and he might want to build some momentum after his team has struggled over the past month.

The Browns lost at the New York Jets 23-16 in Week 16, leaving Cleveland’s playoff hopes in jeopardy. The Browns’ flight to New Jersey was delayed due to several players testing positive for COVID-19 and subsequent contact tracing. Starting LB B.J. Goodson and rookie replacement LB Jacob Phillips were each held out, while QB Baker Mayfield saw his top four WRs Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge out as well. The Browns had used two-receiver sets just 58 percent of the time in the first 14 games, but they were forced to use only two wideouts 98 percent of the time in Week 16. The entire game plan had to be changed in less than 24 hours, and it didn’t go well.
