5 standouts from Packers’ 13-7 loss to Chiefs

Highlighting five standouts from the Packers’ Week 9 loss to the Chiefs.

The defense did everything it could, but too many miscues spelled doom for the Green Bay Packers in a 13-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Filling in for Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love had a rocky NFL debut. He threw for 190 yards and a touchdown, but the offense went 2-12 on third downs. Love also threw a second-half interception, but if not for two botched field goal attempts, the game was perhaps winnable.

The outstanding play from Green Bay’s defense kept the game within reach until Patrick Mahomes converted a crucial third down with under two minutes remaining. Usually, when your team limits Mahomes and the Chiefs offense to under 200 yards passing and one touchdown, you expect to win the game. If the offense had made a few more plays or the special teams unit had made one less mistake, the Packers might be 8-1 instead of 7-2.

But you live, and you learn. Green Bay remains first in the NFC North and very much in control of their own destiny. Rodgers is one of multiple key players expected back soon as this team aims to have a strong second half to the season.

Even though the Packers didn’t come out on top, there were still some positive takeaways in defeat. Let’s take a look at the standouts from Week 9:

9 standouts from Packers’ 24-21 win over Cardinals

Highlighting the top standouts from the Packers’ win over the Cardinals.

Thursday night was a statement win. The short-handed Green Bay Packers were given very little hope against an undefeated Arizona Cardinals team and still came away with an incredible upset.

Both teams were operating on a short week, but the Packers had to battle unforeseen COVID issues to make the task of beating a tough team even more difficult. They were without their defensive coordinator and star wide receiver. However, this Green Bay team battled until the very end to come away with a 3-point win to improve to 7-1.

With the odds stacked against them, this Packers team showed a lot of character. They never looked like the underdog, as they never trailed after tying the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. In fact, it didn’t appear they would lose until the last few seconds.

Good teams find a way to win, and this Green Bay team is very good even when they’re not at full health. The mini-bye should help them get back some key players, but in the meantime, they should try to enjoy this one. Thanks to the Packers, there are no unbeaten teams remaining in the NFL.

Here is a look at some of the standouts who helped dethrone a tough Arizona team.

7 standouts from Packers’ 24-10 win over Washington

The Green Bay Packers didn’t need much of a run game to secure their sixth win of the 2021 season. Collectively, the Packers’ rushing attack totaled 57 yards but it didn’t prevent Matt LaFleur’s club from claiming a 24-10 win over the Washington Football Team.

Sunday at Lambeau Field wasn’t a “pretty” game by any means. There were six fumbles in total and two blocked field goals. However, Green Bay is used to winning ugly, while Washington usually experiences the opposite.

After the game, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he is auspicious about what is out there for this Packers team.

“It hasn’t been pretty, but that’s the exciting thing,” Rodgers told Pam Oliver. “We haven’t played our best ball yet, but we’re 6-1.”

Rodgers had another great day dissecting an opposing defense and will lead us off for this week’s standouts.

5 standouts from Packers’ 24-14 win over Bears in Week 6

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers still own the Chicago Bears. Following a 24-14 win, Rodgers is now 22-5 against the Bears during his career, including playoffs. The Packers moved to 5-1 on the season and now have complete control over the NFC North.

The end result was positive, but the game didn’t start well for the Packers. The offense ended up punting on their first drive after reaching the opposing team’s 36-yard line. They were then forced to watch the defense surrender an 80-yard touchdown drive to rookie quarterback Justin Fields. However, that was one of only two scoring drives for Chicago, who ran the ball well but were never able to impose their will.

Rodgers was sacked three times, but it didn’t stop him from scoring three touchdowns and leading the Packers to their fifth straight win. Rodgers’ performance was enough to make him our first standout in Week 6.

8 standouts from Packers’ 25-22 win over Bengals

The Week 5 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals was a traditional mid-day soap opera. There was excitement, drama, and a lot of heartbreak in a game that ended with a redemptive 49-yard game-winning field goal by Mason Crosby.

Crosby missed three field goals and an extra point before delivering the goods in overtime. Crosby is typically a model of consistency, but this game was reminiscent of the four missed field goals and missed extra point against the Detroit Lions in 2018. Luckily, Crosby’s day didn’t end as badly as that one did three years ago.

The Packers’ offense racked up a total of 466 yards as Aaron Rodgers leaned on Davante Adams, who finished with a career day receiving. The defense struggled in their first game without Jaire Alexander. Rookie wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase totaled six receptions for 159 yards and a touchdown. However, this defense showed a lot of fight against a talented Bengals offense.

In the end, it wasn’t pretty, but Green Bay improved to 4-1 while Cincinnati fell to 3-2. Packers fans will probably need a drink, or two, to fully decompress from this bizarre game. But in the meantime, let’s take a look at the standouts from a Week 5 win.

5 standouts from Packers’ 27-17 win over Steelers

Highlighting the five standouts from the Packers’ 27-17 win over the Steelers in Week 4.

The Super Bowl XLV rematch is in the books, and the end result was the same. The Green Bay Packers won 27-17 over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday to move to 3-1. The Steelers, on the other hand, are 1-3 and may face some tough decisions surrounding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The aging quarterback didn’t post terrible numbers, per se. He completed 65 percent of passes and totaled 232 yards along with one touchdown. However, one can’t help but think Roethlisberger might be holding this team back.

Pittsburgh has a talented defense and a solid arsenal of running backs and pass-catchers. Roethlisberger doesn’t have the arm he used to and is unwilling to try and push the ball downfield. He completed only one pass on Sunday for at least 20 yards.

The Packers probably should have won by a lot more if Aaron Rodgers had completed a few more passes. Meanwhile, Joe Barry’s defense appears to be trending in the right direction. All they really need is some injury luck to possibly turn the corner.

Head coach Matt LaFleur called this one a “mature win,” as Green Bay battled some adversity early on and kept their nose to the ground. This week’s game produced some good individual performances, which we will take a look at now.

6 standouts from Packers’ dramatic win over 49ers in Week 3

Highlighting the standouts from the Packers’ 30-28 win over the 49ers in Week 3.

The Green Bay Packers needed a signature win to jumpstart their season, and Matt LaFleur’s team may have gotten it with a walk-off victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

Down one with only 37 seconds left in the game and no timeouts, the Packers required three plays to get into field goal range. It was yet another great example of why any time is too much time for one Aaron Rodgers.

Taking a step back, Green Bay came into the game with great energy. The defense definitely put forth their best performance of the season and the offense was able to stay in sync for most of the night. Maybe this is one of those wins to get this Packers team hot, but before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s highlight some standouts from a late comeback win against the 49ers.

5 standouts from Packers’ win over Lions in Week 2

Highlighting five standouts from the Packers’ Week 2 win over the Lions.

Monday night’s 35-17 victory over the Detroit Lions provided a nice bounce-back win for the Green Bay Packers, a team that showed few signs of mental or physical fatigue from a 35-point loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

The Packers’ offense had no trouble moving the ball against the Lions, and the defense also turned in a much better performance in the second half. Aaron Rodgers looked like, well, Aaron Rodgers and the defense held the Lions to zero points after halftime.

The Packers saw some great performances coming out of their first win of the 2021 season, so let’s take a moment to highlight a few standouts.

3 standouts on offense from Chiefs’ preseason win over Vikings

These three players posted impressive performances on offense in the #Chiefs’ preseason Week 3 win over the #Vikings

The Kansas City Chiefs notched a 28-25 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in preseason Week 3.

The big three for Kansas City (Mahomes, Kelce and Hill) we’re very clearly the standout players on offense in this game. But what of the other players who are battling to make an impression and make the team?

Here are three standout players on offense from the Chiefs’ preseason Week 3 win:

4 standouts from Packers’ loss to Bills in preseason finale

The Packers were shutout by the BIlls in the preseason finale, but there were still four standouts from the contest.

The game started with Josh Allen gutting the Green Bay Packers’ backups, and it ended with a 19-0 shutout for the Buffalo Bills.

The Packers failed to win a single game and scored only 21 points during the 2021 preseason, which is essentially meaningless considering how many starters never played a single snap.

The important takeaway is that Green Bay still has plenty of film to evaluate before they have to settle on their final roster by Tuesday, August 31.

To wrap things up before the Packers start their regular season journey, let’s do one more list of standouts from the preseason finale:
