San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (0-1) visit Gainbridge Fieldhouse to face the Indiana Pacers (0-1) Friday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Spurs vs. Pacers odds, and our expert NBA picks and predictions.

This Pacers squad really showcased an ability to tank with C Myles Turner out of the lineup after suffering a pregame injury Wednesday, losing 114-107 as 2.5-point ‘dogs to the Washington Wizards.

Indiana’s offense struggled to create open looks and its defense allowed too many second-chance opportunities giving up 14 offensive rebounds (the league average in the young season is 10.7). G Bennedict Mathurin and G Tyrese Haliburton kept this game from getting out of hand, but just barely.

This Spurs team is the youngest in franchise history and they had similar problems to the Pacers in their opener. They allowed the Charlotte Hornets to make 44.8% of their 3-point shots and fell in a hole early that few teams could climb out of, ultimately losing 129-102 as 1-point underdogs. F Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 20 points but was -11 differential on the floor.

Spurs at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 106, Spurs 98

Moneyline

Favorites won 10 of the 14 games outright over the first 2 days of the season. The books expect a Pacers victory Friday, and so do I.

Both teams did not look good in their openers, but the Spurs gave up 129 to what is expected to be an unimpressive Hornets squad.

The Spurs went 7-34 from behind the arc Wednesday, and the Pacers’ defense held the Wizards to 11-of-31 from 3-point range in their opener. That should be enough to give Indiana their first win. That being said, the value is better ATS for just a basket.

PASS.

Against the spread

There is more value in taking the PACERS -1.5 (-110).

Only 3 favorites out of the 14 games played this season have won with a margin of fewer than 4 points.

Over/Under

So far the totals market is 6-7-1. There aren’t any trends but 232 points is a sizable ask and teams are averaging 110.5 points per game so far across the board. Both teams settled for 3s in their openers but neither was very good.

LEAN UNDER 232.5 (-110)

San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Indiana Pacers (26-30) play their second game in as many days when they host the San Antonio Spurs (27-28) Monday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Spurs-Pacers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Indiana has lost back-to-back games and three of the past four (2-2 against the spread) with all three losses being to winning teams including a 129-117 dusting yesterday by the Atlanta Hawks as 2-point road underdogs.

San Antonio broke a two-game losing skid by pasting the Phoenix Suns 111-85 Saturday as 12.5-point road underdogs.

Over the past two weeks, the Spurs are 3-5 overall, 4-4 ATS and are 3 games ahead of the Sacramento Kings for 10th in the Western Conference (7- through 10-seeds participate in the postseason play-in).

The Pacers beat the Spurs 139-133 in overtime April 3. Indiana has won back-to-back against San Antonio, five of the past six and have covered eight of the last nine meetings.

Spurs at Pacers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spurs 119, Pacers 114

Money line (ML)

San Antonio does a really good job defending what Indiana does frequently, which is attacking the rim.

The Pacers attempt the most field goals within five feet of the basket while the Spurs have the best defensive field goal percentage vs. attempts within five feet of the hoop.

Also, the Spurs are more composed to end games — San Antonio is sixth in turnover percentage in clutch situations and Indiana is 27th.

This stat probably goes a long way in explaining the Spurs’ 6-4 ATS record when laying between 1-2.5 points and the Pacers’ 3-6 ATS record when being spotted points in that range.

And even though this is technically a money line bet, these trends apply because betting San Antonio to win costs only five more cents on the dollar than its spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS since the money lines and spreads are nearly identical so there isn’t any value in the points in either direction.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 231.5 (-110) for a quarter unit because Spurs-Pacers total opened at 229.5 but has been steamed down despite nearly 90% being on the money is on the Under, according to Pregame.com.

This line movement tells me that bookmakers want more money on the Under and we don’t want to play into the House’s hand.

Furthermore, the Over has cashed in four straight Spurs-Pacers games, four of San Antonio’s past six games and four of Indiana’s last five.
