Recent NBA mock draft sees Spurs take Nikola Topic at pick No. 4

Another NBA mock draft has the San Antonio Spurs picking Nikola Topic at four,

The San Antonio Spurs have a huge opportunity to improve their team in the 2024 NBA Draft, as they have two top-10 selections. Though this year’s draft is supposedly weak, they can still snag some very talented prospects. In a recent NBA mock draft from Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Spurs picked up Nikola Topic.

“Should Risacher fall to them, adding Wembanyama’s countryman could be intriguing. But the wing far more likely to be there is the 18-year-old Topic, a tall guard who has impressive passing ability and shot creation,” Lewis wrote. “His knee needs a clean bill of health and he must hone his jumper — hitting just 30 percent from 3-point range.

“But he’s a young upside pick for a young upside team. San Antonio desperately needs playmakers and could use shooting around Wembanyama. Topic could provide both … someday down the line.”

The Spurs need to add playmaking this summer, and Topic could be the perfect guy for them to target.

How would Stephon Castle fit as Spurs point guard?

Could the San Antonio Spurs target UConn’s Stephon Castle in the 2024 NBA Draft?

The San Antonio Spurs could have some big-time changes in store this summer as they look to help Victor Wembanyama win in the Western Conference. Obviously, a lot of eyes will be on the trade market, but the 2024 NBA Draft could be an even more important chance for them to add talent.

The Spurs have the fourth and eighth picks in this year’s draft, and there could be some intriguing prospects available at those spots. One guy to keep an eye on is UConn guard Stephon Castle. According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Spurs are “big fans” of Castle heading into the draft.

The SSPN YouTube channel recently spoke about what Castle would look like as a fit for the Spurs as their point guard.

Adding a guy like Castle to the mix would be perfect, as his playmaking and defense would improve the Spurs’ play on both ends of the court.

Report: Spurs are ‘big fans’ of UConn guard Stephon Castle

Could the San Antonio Spurs target UConn guard Stephon Castle?

As the 2024 NBA Draft approaches, the San Antonio Spurs will have a huge opportunity to add top-tier young talent to the roster. They have the fourth and eighth picks in the draft, meaning they could snag two of the top prospects. One guy who they could go after is Stephon Castle out of UConn.

And according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Spurs are “big fans” of Castle. “The Spurs are said to be big fans of UConn’s Castle, league sources said, and he is moving up their draft board. San Antonio has two top-10 selections and could take Castle with either the No. 4 or No. 8 pick,” Iko wrote.

Castle is a great defender and a solid playmaker. And at 6-foot-6, his height at the point guard position could make him an intriguing fit on this Spurs squad.

Though his offensive game still needs to fully form, he’s exactly the type of player the Spurs should be willing to take a chance on.

Recent mock draft sees Spurs select Ron Holland with No. 8 pick

Could the San Antonio Spurs target Ron Holland with the eighth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft?

The lottery gave the San Antonio Spurs some serious help. The Toronto Raptors’ pick fell out of the top six, meaning it went to the Spurs, so San Antonio now owns the fourth and eighth picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. In a recent mock draft from Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report, the Spurs take Ron Holland with the eighth pick.

“If the San Antonio Spurs add a playmaker at No. 4, they could be more inclined to draft a wing like Ron Holland at No. 8,” Wasserman wrote. “A defensive pairing of Nikola Topić and Rob Dillingham could create problems. But Holland would give San Antonio one of the best athletes in the draft and a quick wing defender. And his handle and feel continue to improve in the half court.

“Despite questions about Holland’s shooting and decision-making, it still took a high level of functional athleticism and attacking ability—plus capable shotmaking—to average 19.5 points at 18 years old in the G League.”

Grabbing a freak athlete like Holland could give the Spurs a nice defensive piece to play with on the wing.

Mock draft sees Spurs take Nikola Topic again at pick four

Should the San Antonio Spurs target Nikola Topic in the 2024 NBA Draft?

As the San Antonio Spurs prepare for the 2024 NBA Draft, a bunch of mock drafts have seen them select the same player: Nikola Topic. The six-foot-six Serbian guard is a consensus top-10 pick. And Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report’s latest mock has the same prediction: San Antonio selecting Topic with the fourth pick in the draft.

“Another knee injury could complicate evaluations and decisions on Nikola Topić, who’s going to miss the rest of the Adriatic League playoffs,” Wasserman wrote. “However, there has been no indication of any serious damage, and the San Antonio Spurs have presumably seen enough to have confidence in Topić’s playmaking and rim pressure.

“He should be in the best-player-available conversation around No. 4, while his ball-screen play and passing could give him an extra edge for a team that needs more creation and a guard to make the game easier for Victor Wembanyama.”

The Spurs are going to be looking for playmaking help this summer, and Topic would definitely fit the bill.

Which NBA Draft prospects would fit best next to Victor Wembanyama?

Which prospects the San Antonio Spurs could snag would fit best next to Victor Wembanyama?

The San Antonio Spurs will have multiple opportunities to improve their roster this summer, and it will be important that they do so, as Victor Wembanyama just finished up one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory. In addition to free agency and the trade market, the 2024 NBA Draft will give them a great chance to add young talent to the team.

San Antonio owns the fourth and eighth picks in the draft, and with them, they could bring in two solid young pieces in hopes of improving the roster moving forward. But the question is, who should the Spurs be targeting?

In a recent YouTube video, Rob Trejo Jr discussed which 2024 prospects could be the best fits next to Wembanyama on the Spurs.

From guards like Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard to big men like Alex Sarr and Donovan Clingan, the Spurs will have plenty of options to choose from.

Recent mock trade sees Spurs flip No. 4 pick for Trae Young

In a recent mock trade, the San Antonio Spurs would send the fourth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to the Atlanta Hawks for Trae Young.

The San Antonio Spurs have been connected to Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young for months now. Adding him to the lineup would form a great pairing with Victor Wembanyama. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently concocted a mock trade that would see Young join the Spurs, while San Antonio would send the fourth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, a 2025 first-round pick (their own), and a 2026 first-round pick swap rights (their own) to the Hawks.

“As things stand, the Spurs hold two top-10 picks (Nos. 4 and 8), so if they want to follow the slow-and-steady model for building around Victor Wembanyama, they can do it,” Buckley wrote. “Given how much he showed as a freshman phenom, though, it might already be time to accelerate—especially with the young centerpiece being reportedly “intrigued by the idea” of playing with Trae Young, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

“The Hawks, meanwhile, might read their lottery fortune as the sign it’s time to pivot toward something new. After nabbing Sarr at No. 1, they could add another lengthy Frenchman in Zaccharie Risacher, who projects as at least an athletic three-and-D and has shown enough flashes of ball-handling and passing to suggest he could become so much more. Between Sarr, Risacher, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu, the Hawks could be loaded up front sooner than later, and that’s before factoring in Keldon Johnson (and, if they see a role for him, Zach Collins). Atlanta would also regain control of its next two drafts, meaning that if it encounters any growing pains going forward, it would at least reap the rewards of them.”

Adding Young to the lineup would be great, but this is a hefty price.

Spurs NBA Draft: Reed Sheppard raised his stock at NBA Draft Combine

Could the San Antonio Spurs look into drafting Reed Sheppard?

The San Antonio Spurs have two top-10 picks in this year’s draft, sitting at four and eight. Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard could be a potential draft candidate, and according to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, he raised his draft stock at the NBA Draft Combine.

“Scouts surely expected Reed Sheppard to show out in shooting drills, and he certainly didn’t disappoint on that front,” Buckley wrote. “What they maybe weren’t expecting was to watch the 6’3” combo guard spring his way to a 42-inch max vertical jump, matching the best mark posted by anyone this week. Sheppard’s draft stock didn’t necessarily need a big lift. B/R’s Jonathan Wasserman slotted Sheppard into the No. 3 spot of his latest mock draft.

“Still, for anyone questioning his lack of size or ability to separate against NBA-caliber defenders, this show of explosive athleticism could’ve quieted them all. If anything, it may have cemented Sheppard, a 52.1 percent three-point shooter during his lone season with the Wildcats, as a top-five selection.”

The Spurs have reportedly been interested in Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham, but Sheppard is an intriguing prospect, too.

NBA Draft Lottery: Spurs land 4th and 8th picks in 2024 NBA Draft

The San Antonio Spurs will have the fourth and eighth picks in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft Lottery was on Saturday afternoon, and the San Antonio Spurs landed the fourth and eighth picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. The eighth selection is owed to them via the Jakob Poeltl trade with the Toronto Raptors, as it was top-six-protected and landed outside the top six. Meanwhile, the fourth pick is their own.

They earned the eighth pick because it dropped from six to eight. Meanwhile, their own selection jumped into the top four. They were slated as the fifth pick but had a 42.1% chance to jump into the top four and a 10.5% chance to get the first pick in the draft.

Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham has been heavily linked to the Spurs, so he seems like a likely selection at four.

As for the eighth overall pick, players such as forward Matas Buzelis, UConn center Donovan Clingan, and Colorado forward Cody Williams could be available for them to consider.

Rob Dillingham really wants to play for the San Antonio Spurs

Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham supposedly really wants to be a member of the San Antonio Spurs.

As the offseason rapidly approaches, the 2024 NBA Draft inches nearer and nearer as well. It will be a crucial opportunity for the San Antonio Spurs to add elite young talent next to Victor Wembanyama, who has already proven capable of being the face of their organization. They just have to get him help.

Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2024 draft, and according to recent rumblings, he wants to be in San Antonio. And the feeling is mutual. The Spurs are supposedly looking to select Dillingham with their top pick, regardless of where it falls after the lottery.

The CLAN the SPURS fan recently reacted to the idea that Dillingham wants to be a member of the Spurs, sharing some thoughts on the matter.

Putting Dillingham next to Wembanyama and the rest of the Spurs’ young core seems like a great fit.
