Spurs at Cavaliers picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 118, Spurs 97

Moneyline

AVOID.

Even with the Cavaliers expected to win with ease at home against an inferior Spurs team, taking their moneyline isn’t advised at the current odds (-1500).

Against the spread

While it’s certainly a large spread and it’s understandable to pass on the spread, I’d lean CAVALIERS -15.5 (-105). Cleveland has won by an average of 17.3 points on its 6-game winning streak and San Antonio has lost by 10-plus points in 9 of its last 12 losses.

The Spurs are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss of 10-plus points. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Over/Under

UNDER 223.5 (-105) is the ideal choice here with the Spurs being without their primary facilitator in Jones and the Cavaliers being the No. 1 team in defensive rating. Cleveland also plays at the slowest pace in the NBA.

Both of these teams are 5-2 to the Under in their last 7 games overall.

San Antonio Spurs at Cleveland Cavaliers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s San Antonio Spurs at Cleveland Cavaliers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (20-34) stop by the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Wednesday to play the Cleveland Cavaliers (33-21). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Spurs at Cavaliers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

San Antonio snapped a 3-game skid Friday after hammering the Rockets 131-106, easily covering as an 8-point home favorite. Over the past two weeks, the Spurs are 2-4 straight up (SU) and 3-3 against the spread (ATS).

Cleveland is on a 2-game winning streak following victories over the Pacers (98-85 Sunday) and at the Hornets (102-101 Friday). The Cavs are 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS in the last 14 days.

The Cavs beat the Spurs 114-109 in San Antonio Jan. 14, covering as 3-point road favorites with Over cashing for the fifth consecutive Spurs-Cavaliers meeting.

Spurs at Cavaliers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 107, Spurs 103

Money line

PASS.

I only “lean” toward San Antonio getting points and don’t like it enough to sprinkle on the Spurs (+190).

The Cavaliers are 14-2 SU as home favorites and the Spurs are 9-27 SU as underdogs, so it’d be too big of a gamble to take the underdog in this spot.

Against the spread

LEAN to the SPURS +5.5 (-108) for a quarter-unit.

There’s not a ton of basketball logic behind this pick and my favorite bet in this game is the Under. Also, NBA favorites are 25-3-1 ATS in the last four days, according to David Purdum of ESPN.

However, the first Spurs-Cavaliers meeting was a seesaw battle that had eight lead changes and the two sides each won two quarters.

In fact, Cleveland needed to outscore San Antonio by 7 points in the fourth quarter just to cover last time.

Furthermore, the Cavs are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as favorites and the Spurs are 12-8 ATS road underdogs.

Again, it’s only a “LEAN” to the SPURS +5.5 (-108) since the Cavs are a far better team and should pound San Antonio.

Over/Under

The UNDER 215.5 (-107) is my favorite play here for various reasons.

First of all, two of the three referees assigned to this game officiate more Unders and the officiating crew has a combined 45-62 O/U record (58% to the Under).

On top of that, neither team gets to the foul line often and both teams do a good job keeping opponents off the foul line. Cleveland is 16th in offensive FT/FGA rate and third in defensive while San Antonio is dead-last in offensive FT/FGA rate and fifth in defensive.

Also, the Spurs are 6-13-1 O/U as road underdogs (minus-4.2 total margin) and 11-14 O/U versus teams above-.500. The Cavs are 3-12-1 O/U as home favorites (minus-6.8 total margin) and 9-15 O/U versus teams below-.500.

Finally, the Spurs-Cavaliers total has been steamed down from the 219-point opener by presumably sharp money.

BET the UNDER 215.5 (-107) for 1 unit.
