Ernie Johnson gave an emotional Sports Emmy speech amid Inside the NBA’s uncertain future

Ernie Johnson is the best.

With the future of TNT’s Inside the NBA up in the air as the league’s television rights are in flux, broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson seemed to understand the gravity of his Sports Emmy speech.

Johnson won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Studio Host on Tuesday night, and he delivered a very emotional speech that centered on the gratitude he has for his job and the people he gets to work with at TNT.

It’s very possible that Inside the NBA will end after the 2024-25 NBA season if the league rights go to other entities than Warner Bros. Discovery, which would be a massive blow to NBA fans across the globe who regard the program as one of the best in the medium.

Johnson seems to clearly understand the stark wisdom of appreciating what you have while you’ve got it, and it’d just be terrible to see him moved away from NBA coverage while he’s still with the broadcasting company.

We’ll see what happens with the NBA broadcasting rights and do what Johnson recommends: appreciate Inside the NBA while we’ve got it.

Panthers great Greg Olsen wins 2nd Sports Emmy

Greg is gold once again!

Greg Olsen is certifiably golden, and nobody can take that away from him.

On Tuesday night, the Carolina Panthers great brought home his second Sports Emmy in as many years, winning the award for Outstanding Personality as an Event Analyst. Olsen won in the same category as an Emerging On-Air Talent in 2023—when he beat out the likes of ESPN’S Andraya Carter, Eli Manning, Robert Griffin III and JJ Redick.

The competition was stiff once again for Olsen—who was joined in the category by ESPN’s Troy Aikman, NBC’s Cris Collinsworth, CBS’ Bill Raftery, FOX’s John Smoltz and FOX’s Tom Verducci.

Here’s the moment in which Olsen grabbed the gold:

Unfortunately, the honor may be somewhat bittersweet for the former tight end—who will be taking a backseat to Tom Brady at FOX this upcoming season. The seven-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Most Valuable Player will be jumping right into the network’s No. 1 broadcast team, bumping Olsen down to the No. 2 squad.

You can call him one of the best tight ends of all-time, a Carolina Panthers great and, now, an award-winning broadcaster.

On Monday night, Greg Olsen was named the recipient of the 44th Annual Sports Emmy award for Outstanding Personality as an Emerging On-Air Talent. The 38-year-old pass catcher-turned-analyst beat out four other fellow athletes—ESPN’S Andraya Carter, Eli Manning, Robert Griffin III and JJ Redick.

He also had a few words upon finding out the great news . . .

Olsen has experienced a meteoric rise as a color commentator for FOX’s NFL programming, a job he began in a full-time capacity two seasons ago. He and play-by-play partner Kevin Burkhardt were promoted to the network’s lead broadcast team for the 2022 campaign, one they capped off with an acclaimed Super Bowl LVII performance.

Prior to becoming a star in the booth, Olsen starred for the Panthers over a large part of his nine-year stint in Carolina. His 6,463 receiving yards still stands as the third-most in franchise history.
