South Dakota vs. Colorado: Three things to know

  1. The Coyotes lost four double-digit scorers from last season’s squad, but head coach Todd Lee has been able to reload with a slew of transfers, including F Brady Heiman, G Kanon Koster and G A.J. Plitzuweit joining stud wing returnee G Stanley Umude.
  2. The Buffaloes have to replace Tyler Bey, who will now be earning a paycheck in the NBA, but at least G McKinley Wright is back to lead this team which won 21 games last season against 10 losses while going just 12-18-1 ATS in 31 contests overall.
  3. Colorado posted a 4-1 straight up and 2-3 ATS mark in neutral-court games in 2019-20, while South Dakota went 2-2 SU/1-3 ATS.

South Dakota vs. Colorado: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Colorado 73, South Dakota 64

Money line (ML)

Colorado (-1667) will cost you more than 16 times your potential return. If you’re willing to risk that on an opener with limited practices and knowledge of each team, you’re a braver bettor than I. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

SOUTH DAKOTA +16.5 (-110) is expected to challenge in-state rivals South Dakota State for the Summit League title this season, while Colorado is expected to be rather middling in the Pac-12. Of course, the two leagues don’t quite compare. Still, USD isn’t likely to be a pushover, and this is a neutral-site court where anything can happen. Colorado is likely to win, but don’t be surprised if USD is able to push it to the limit.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 144 (-110) is likely to be my lean in a majority of the early-season battles, as teams have had limited or disjointed offseason programs and a lack of practice time to work out the kinks.

Expect a lot of rust and brick-laying performances during the early going before teams get their sea legs.
