Fans remember that Sonic wears a hedgehog suit

According to Sega, the blue blur takes it off right before bed.

There are times when staying offline is the best course of action. For Sonic the Hedgehog fans, those days come whenever they remember Sonic is wearing a hedgehog suit.

No, I am not trolling – it’s canon. Way back on July 8, 2020, Sonic’s official Instagram account shared an image revealing a list of the blue blur’s daily routine. Most tasks were pretty mundane: wake up, brush teeth, read emails, and maybe take a few thousand laps around the house. However, one item stuck out.

Every night at 11:30 P.M., Sonic takes off his hedgehog suit. Almost immediately, I couldn’t but think this would be like a human peeling off their skin before sleep. Sega, why (further) taint a beloved children’s franchise like this?

Naturally, most Sonic the Hedgehog fans try to forget this ever happened. Every so often, though, that knowledge slithers back into their subconscious like a grim reminder that the universe is coldly indifferent to our existence.

It happened again earlier this week, and I’ve gathered the best (worst?) reactions below.

‘Ugly Sonic’ and his terrifying human teeth made a hilarious ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’ cameo

Seriously. This is amazing!

Ugly Sonic is back.

No, not the adorable Sonic the Hedgehog — which you can see above.

Let’s go back for a second to 2019. That was when the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie dropped, and all people could talk about was how Sonic looked hideous with his human teeth. They were correct — the chompers were terrifying.

The movie was delayed and a much better-looking Sonic was inserted in its place.

Fast-forward to 2022. A very funny new Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie is dropping from Disney that looks like it’s a mix of a reboot and a parody of reboots and animation and whatnot.

Oh, and UGLY SONIC IS IN IT!

Netflix shows off Sonic Prime in a quick teaser

Here is a first look at the blue blur’s new animated series.

Sonic Prime, the upcoming animated series from Netflix, just got its first real teaser. Dominating the box office wasn’t enough for everyone’s favorite hedgehog — he’s coming for streaming platforms now.

On Tuesday, Netflix released sneak-peek footage of Sonic Prime. In the clip, we see Sega’s beloved icon running around at high-speed collecting rings. Shocking, I know. There’s a cheesy one-liner as well, solidifying that animation studio WildBrain knows what the character is all about.

It’s very much a blink and you’ll miss it affair, but fans wouldn’t have it any other way. Check out the Sonic Prime teaser for yourself below.

The tone is undoubtedly reminiscent of Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, but there’s no continuity between either project. For that, you’ll have to watch Knuckles the Echidna‘s show.

Announced back in February, Sonic Prime is a 24-episode series coming out sometime in 2022. It’ll be for kids, primarily. Though Netflix director of animation Dominic Bazay hints that longtime fans will dig it too.

“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart including my own,” Bazay said in a press release. “I spent many hours with the blue blur as a kid and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix — one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy.”

Sonic has had one solid year, especially with the Sonic Origins collection releasing soon. It’s a shame that there’s still controversy surrounding the delisting of several Sega Genesis entries from digital storefronts, though.

Sega is delisting classic Sonic games in May

Old-school blue blur titles will not be up on digital storefronts much longer.

There’s no doubt that the Sonic Origins collection is looking pretty sick, and it should — since many classics entries in the series will disappear from digital storefronts soon.

On Tuesday, Sega announced that it will delist Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD from digital storefronts on May 20, 2022. That includes every port on PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, Nintendo’s eShop, and elsewhere.

The company is making some exceptions, though. The first two Sonic the Hedgehog games will be available via Sega Ages, while Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is staying on Nintendo Switch Online.

Thankfully, you can still purchase these games individually until the delisting date. Each will be playable afterward, too. For example, Sonic the Hedgehog is only $4.99 on Steam right now. So get on that if you would like cheaper alternatives to the Sonic Origins collection, which will be $39.99 when it comes out on June 23, 2022 — about a month after Sega takes the other digital versions down.

It’s always disappointing when this sort of thing happens, but at least the Sonic Origins collection will contain all the titles mentioned above. Too bad all of this confusing business had to happen right as Sonic became a box-office champ.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 gets one last trailer before release

There’s less than a month left until the movie is out!

There’s less than a month left until Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes out, and its final trailer is sending fan excitement into overdrive.

We get a few more details about the film this go-around, light spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen Sonic the Hedgehog yet (fix that, it’s the best video game movie ever).

It seems that Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) found his way back to earth with a Chaos Emerald, bringing with him the fearsome warrior Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba). Sonic has to team up with his long-time buddy Tails to take the villainous duo down. Straight forward stuff, but it’s a film for kids, so who cares!

Check out Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s final trailer for yourself below.

There’s also a beautiful new poster that mimic’s a certain classic Sega Genesis game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming out in North America on April 8, 2022, so there’s not much time left until we find out if Elba made Knuckles sexy.

Paramount is turning Sonic into a cinematic universe of sorts, as Knuckles is getting a spinoff series next year on the company’s new streaming service. The Halo TV series is another big video game adaptation coming to Paramount+ rather soon too.

Knuckles is getting a TV show, and Idris Elba will reprise the role

A third Sonic film is also in the works.

Idris Elba will take center stage as Knuckles in a new TV series.

On Tuesday, Paramount announced several film and TV projects coming to the company’s streaming platform soon. One of which is a Sonic The Hedgehog spinoff series starring Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. Yes, we live in a timeline where Sonic movies are so good that his buddy Knuckles gets a dedicated TV show. Absolutely bananas, that.

We don’t know much about the Knuckles series outside of the fact that Elba is returning to voice the character and that it’ll debut exclusively on Paramount+ sometime in 2023.

Sonic Frontiers looks like Sonic meets Breath of the Wild

After months of speculation, we finally got a good look at Sonic Frontiers at The Game Awards 2021.

After a rather heavy-handed tease earlier this week, Sega has just unveiled the new Sonic the Hedgehog game at The Game Awards 2021: Sonic Frontiers.

Sonic news has been sparse over the last few years. While the first ever footage of Sonic Frontiers – which was unnamed at the time – debuted at Sonic Central 2021, there wasn’t a whole lot of information we could garner from it. All we really got to see were Sonic’s iconic trainers as he sprinted through a nondescript forest.

Now, seven months later, we’ve finally been given a more detailed look at what’s to come for the world’s fastest hedgehog.

As you can see from the clip above, it looks like rumors of the next Sonic game following a similar design ethos to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were true. Admittedly we still haven’t seen any gameplay, but the environmental design and some of the shots in the trailer look like deliberate adages to Nintendo’s blockbuster.

Sonic Frontiers will mark the Blue Blur’s first new outing since the double whammy of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces back in 2017. According to the trailer, it’s due to launch for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in Holiday 2022.

Here’s our first look at Idris Elba as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2

You mean these Chaos Emeralds?

Everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog is back in this new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which dropped during Thursday evening’s The Game Awards 2021.

Featuring heavily in this first proper look at the sequel to the beloved 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehog — which yes, still feels weird to say — is the movie’s all-star cast. James Marsden, Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey all will reprise their original roles from the first film, while fans got their first look at Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna alongside the return of Colleen O’Shaughnessey to her iconic role as Tails.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 promises more fun, chaos and Carrey chewing even more scenery than he did in the first film as Doctor Eggman.

Though Sonic’s original design was criticized heavily by fans, Paramount Pictures delayed the original 2020 film and went back to the drawing board to get it right. Since, Sonic the Hedgehog has been praised by fans and critics alike. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will make its way to theaters on April 8, 2022.
