With TJ Finley stepping in to start at quarterback, the question is whether or not there is still time for LSU to turn this season around.
It can be amazing how much the chatter can change when you win a game in a decisive fashion.
LSU was in full control of South Carolina on Saturday night in a 52-24 win. With TJ Finley stepping in to start at quarterback, the question is whether or not there is still time for LSU to turn this season around and make a good run the rest of the way. It sure beats the alternative on the Monday after a game.
In his weekly roundup of the weekend’s winners and losers, USA Today national college football writer Paul Myerberg included LSU among his winners.
Per Myerberg:
For one Saturday, at least, the Tigers resembled the team that dominated in 2019. With Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas and Texas A&M up next, this was a must-win game for LSU.

Another one of Myerberg’s winners from the weekend was Indiana, who stunned Penn State with an overtime victory in the Big Ten’s first weekend of action. According to two bowl prognosticators from ESPN, Indiana is who is currently projected to face LSU in this season’s Outback Bowl in Orlando, FL. Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com has a different outlook though. Palm currently has the Tigers slotted to face Memphis of the AAC in the Birmingham Bowl.

After LSU’s win against South Carolina, quarterback TJ Finley was the talk of the town… and the internet. Although head coach Ed Orgeron was quick to put out any fires about a potential quarterback controversy, that didn’t stop ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky from attempting to ignite it.
“I think it’s gonna be really hard to not trot TJ Finley out there, Orlovsky said during the Saturday night broadcast on ESPN, as transcribed by 247 Sports. “I understand that that sounds somewhat harsh. What plays into this conversation is the transfer portal. It’s a factor. It’s a variable now, because once a coach makes a decision, you might set off wheels in motion.”
Of course, there is some speculation why Orlovsky was discussing a quarterback controversy. Filling time in a blowout seems to be a popular explanation.
LSU will take on Auburn next Saturday. What might people be saying after Week 9? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
