Raiders sign 4, send Maxx Crosby, Sincere McCormick to injured reserve

The Raiders make it official, sending Maxx Crosby and Sincere McCormick to injured reserve. They added four other players.

Wednesday the Raiders officially ended the seasons of Maxx Crosby and Sincere McCormick, sending both to injured reserve. They made four other moves, including filling their spots on the roster.

To replace McCormick’s spot on the roster, the team signed RB Christ Collier off the practice squad.

Collier is an undrafted rookie, originally signing with the Ravens. He joined the Raiders’ practice squad a month ago.

To add depth at defensive end with Crosby lost for the season, the team signed Andre Carter II off the Vikings practice squad.

Carter II was signed off the Vikings’ practice squad. The 6-6, 256-pound defensive end originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Vikings in 2023 and saw action in 12 games as a rookie. He played collegiately at Army where he finished second in the FBS with 15.5 sacks in 2021 and earned third team All-American honors.

Additionally, the Raiders added two to the practice squad, signing DE Ovie Oghoufo and RB Isaiah Spiller.

Oghoufo is and undrafted rookie, originally signing with the New York Giants. The 6-4, 250-pound defensive end played his final collegiate season at LSU in 2023 after two years at Texas (2021-22) and three at Notre Dame (2018-20). He played in 58 games with 31 starts and recorded 152 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks over his career.

Spiller was a fourth round pick the the Chargers in the 2022 draft. He has played in 15 career games and rushed 55 times for 137 yards, while adding nine receptions for 47 yards.

How will Sincere McCormick snaps be affected by return of Alexander Mattison?

Raiders RB Alexander Mattison has been dealing with an ankle njury. Here are the latest updates.

It’s been almost a month since we saw the Raiders top two backs to start the season take the field for the team. Her is the latest on the two of them as the Raiders prepare to face the Atlanta Falcons in week 15.

Alexander Mattison injury update

He has missed the past three weeks with an ankle injury. He returned to practice last week and was Questionable only to be rendered inactive. Antonio Pierce updated his status on Wednesday.

“Well, he’s good,” said Pierce. “I mean, he’s close. I mean, just the numbers game being inactive, but I would assume this week he’ll probably be active.”

Zamir White injury update

The team placed White on injured reserve this week, with practice squad QB Carter Bradley taking his spot on the roster.

How long will Zamir White be out?

With just four games left, White is done for the season.

Running back depth chart

Sincere McCormick and Ameer Abdullah have gotten the starts since White and Mattison went down. Expect McCormick to keep his starting job. Pierce said McCormick will keep the starting job.

“Yeah, he deserves it,” Pierce said of McCormick starting. “The last three games, he’s running his tail off. So, keep running, keep pushing those numbers up, see if we can get him to 100.”

Mattison should share backup snaps with Ameer Abdullah.

ESPN shares Raiders’ most surprising performance against Bucs

ESPN shared the Raiders’ most surprising performance from Las Vegas’ battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

One of the bright spots from Las Vegas‘ 28-13 loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the performance of running back Sincere McCormick.

An undrafted free agent running back out of UTSA in 2022, injuries derailed McCormick’s hopes for the 2022 season. McCormick has been primarily a practice squad player ever since.

But, as the Raiders have navigated injuries to their top two running backs, Alexander Mattison and Zamir White, McCormick has gotten his chance in the silver and black of late.

In a starting role against the Buccaneers, McCormick delivered a breakout showing. It earned McCormick the nod from ESPN as the Raiders’ most surprising performance against the Bucs.

Running back Sincere McCormick, who has mostly been a practice squad player, is looking more like RB1 for a rebuilding Raiders offense. McCormick, taking advantage of injuries to Alexander Mattison and Zamir White, rushed for a career-best 78 yards on 15 carries. – Paul Gutierrez, ESPN.

McCormick has actually tallied career-best performances in each of the Raiders’ past three contests.

McCormick carried five times for 33 yards in the Raiders’ 29-19 loss against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 24. Then, against Kansas City on Nov. 29, McCormick rushed 12 times for 64 yards.

Finally, McCormick delivered his latest standout performance against the Bucs from Raymond James Stadium.

With White officially placed on season-ending injured reserve, the emergence of McCormick is crucial coming down the home stretch of the season as his workload continues to expand.

Mattison was listed as questionable with an ankle injury against Tampa Bay, but the fifth-year running back didn’t end up going against the Bucs. Mattison’s last appearance for the Raiders came in Week 11 at Miami.

With Mattison and White out against Tampa Bay, Ameer Abdullah operated as the Raiders’ backup running back. Abdullah saw 26 offensive snaps per Pro Football Focus, but he carried just once for one yard.

The Raiders (2-11) return to action on Monday, Dec. 16 with a home date against the Atlanta Falcons (6-7). Las Vegas then closes with games versus Jacksonville, at New Orleans and versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ballers & Busters for Raiders Week 14 loss to Buccaneers

Going over the individual performances for the Raiders in their week 14 games against the Buccaneers.

The Raiders game in Tampa was like a pendulum. The problem was it swung hard the Buccaneers’ way in the first quarter, only slightly the Raiders direction for two quarters, and then hard the Bucs was again for the fourth quarter.

Ballers

S Tre’von Moehrig

After running through the Raiders defense for touchdowns on each of their first two drives, Moehrig started things out for the defense and made big plays on five of their six straight stops in the second and third quarters.

He teamed up for a tackle for loss on the first stop, had a pass breakup and recovered a forced fumble in the next one, had a pass breakup on the third, He added a shared sack on third down in the third quarter and led out the fourth quarter with coverage on third down to force another punt.

He added a run stuff for minimal gain on the final drive of the game to finish with a team-leading eight tackles, a half sack, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

DE K’Lavon Chaisson

Chaisson teamed up with Moehrig on that tackle for loss to start the defense’s run. Then he ended that drive when he stopped his rush to get in the passing lane on a screen, batted the pass to himself for the interception.

In the third quarter he teamed up with Moehrig on a sack and added two more tackles.

RB Sincere McCormick

He continues to show himself to be the Raiders’ best kept secret this season. His 29-yard run was a thing of beauty. He broke two tackles along the way, including a wicked spin move to put the Raiders in position for their second score.

To begin the third quarter, the Raiders were able to go on a 16-play drive that took over ten minutes, largely on his back. He had three first downs, including on third and one and fourth and one. Unfortunately it ended with an interception.

He finished with 78 yards on 15 carries (5.2 yards per carry).

DI Adam Butler

His sack on a drive in the second quarter helped put the Bucs in third and 23 which led to great field position on the Raiders ensuing possession. And he started out the next drive with a run stuff. And his pressure in the fourth quarter led to a bad throw on third down to give the Raiders one last shot to get back in the game.

They couldn’t take advantage, but he still crashed the backfield to start the next drive leading to a run stuff. He finished with four tackles, a sack, and two QB hits.

TE Michael Mayer

Mayer led the Raiders seven catches for 68 yards. It was a career high for catches for Mayer and his second most yards in a game.

His 19-yard catch put the Raiders in first and goal on their first touchdown drive. On the long drive in the third quarter, he laid the key block to convert on fourth and one and on the next play caught a seven-yard pass to put the Raiders at the ten.

Raiders Week 14 snap counts vs Buccaneers: Another career high for RB Sincere McCormick

Promising running back Sincere McCormick sets a new career high for his third straight week.

Another week, another realization that the Raiders had a hidden gem on their hands in Sincere McCormick. The former undrafted running back has spent the past two years with the Raiders, exclusively on the team’s practice quad. That was until a few weeks ago when he was forced into action due to the injuries to starters Zamir White and Alexander Mattison.

Now three weeks later and McCormick continued to earn a great share of the workload each week. He had eight in his first career game three weeks ago, in week 13 he had 26, and this past week it jumped to 41 snaps with McCormick getting his first career start.

His numbers went up each week as well, setting new career highs each game. From five carries for 33 yards to 12 carries for 64 yards and finally 15 carries for 78 yards.

Raiders PFF grades: 5 highest rated Week 14 vs. Buccaneers

The Raiders lost again, their ninth straight defeat. But who actually performed well against the Buccaneers on Sunday?

The Raiders battled in Tampa Bay on Sunday after falling behind the Buccaneers early, and for a while, it seemed like they’d actually win a game.

But the Las Vegas offense couldn’t score enough points and the defense ran out of steam, allowing the Bucs to register a couple of fourth-quarter touchdowns. It was the Raiders’ ninth straight defeat.

Some players put good performances on tape, however. Safety Tre’von Moehrig is the highest-graded Raider this week according to Pro Football Focus, earning an impressive 90.6 score. He’s followed on the list by another defender, defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson.

Moehrig led his team in tackles and recovered a fumble, and Chaisson had an incredible interception after tipping the football at the line of scrimmage. Each player registered half of a QB sack and Moehrig had three pass breakups.

They’re followed on the list by three young players on offense: running back Sincere McCormick, tight end Brock Bowers, and center Jackson Powers-Johnson. McCormick started in the backfield and responded with 78 yards on 15 carries. He’ll get more opportunities to adjust to the NFL as the season winds down.

Bowers had a quiet day as a receiver with just three catches, though he had a long reception of 25 yards. He’s still in the running for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Powers-Johnson has displayed a lot of skill at center since he took over for offensive lineman Andre James, but the rookie needs to reduce his penalties and miscues as part of the maturity process.

After nine straight weeks of PFF grades following a Raiders loss, when will we see how the team grades after a win? That’s uncertain, but Las Vegas will try for victory again on Monday night against the Falcons in Las Vegas.

Raiders send WR DJ Turner to IR, sign promising young RB to active roster

While the Raiders lose their best special teams player, DJ Turner, they make things official with former practice squad RB Sincere McCormick.

Midway through the third quarter of last Friday’s game in Arrowhead, Raiders wide receiver DJ Turner returned a kickoff 28 yards and went down hard and didn’t get back up. He was eventually helped off the field and didn’t return.

Today, Turner was placed on injured reserve. The talented special teams player will be missed for his gunner and return abilities as well as being the team’s starting slot receiver this season after the departure of Davante Adams in trade with the Jets.

To fill his sport on the roster the Raiders signed RB Sincere McCormick from the practice squad.

McCormick is a former undrafted free agent out of University of Texas San Antonio. As of two weeks ago, he hadn’t had an NFL carry. But with the injuries to Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, McCormick was called into service.

Over the past two weeks, McCormick has put up some impressive numbers. He has put up 97 yards on 17 carries. His 5.7 yards per carry is far better than any other Raiders back this season.

In his first appearance against the Broncos in week 12, he had 33 yards on five carries (6.6 ypc) and head coach Antonio Pierce said plainly that he earned more carries. So, he saw his carries jump to 12 last week against the Chiefs and still averaged 5.3 yards per carry.

Now in less than two weeks time, he goes from obscure practice squad back to the lead back with an NFL contract. It will be interesting to see what he can do the rest of the season and if that means he will be part of the Raiders plans moving forward.

Raiders Week 13 snap counts vs Chiefs: Sincere McCormick sees big jump in snaps, carries

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce kept his word and Sincere McCormick saw his snaps and carries increase week 13 vs the Chiefs.

This time last week, Sincere McCormick had never taken an NFL field. Then he took his eight snaps week 12 and made the most of them. He picked up 33 yards on five carries (6.6 yards per carry) and afterward head coach Antonio Pierce said McCormick had earned more playing time.

Pierce kept his word and McCormick’s snaps jumped to 26 Friday against the Chiefs (38%). He didn’t disappoint with his increased snaps, rushing for a team high 64 yards on 12 carries (5.3 yards per carry).

Both Zamir White and Alexander Mattison were inactive week 13 with injuries, which has led to McCormick’s emergence. The 2023 undrafted free agent could end up being a key part of the Raiders plans even when White and Mattison return to the lineup and beyond.

Raiders PFF grades: 5 highest rated Week 13 vs. Chiefs

The Raiders lost in spectacular fashion against the Chiefs on Black Friday, but who played the best for Las Vegas despite the defeat?

The Raiders and Chiefs put on a show for a national audience on Black Friday, but Kansas City escaped with a win as Las Vegas was left to wonder what could have been.

The Raiders were in position to kick a game-winning field goal but ran one too many plays, resulting in a miss-timed snap, fumble, and a crushing last-second defeat.

However, some Raiders had a productive day. Tight end Brock Bowers was spectacular, catching 10 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. He’s the highest-graded player on the team this week, according to Pro Football Focus.

The No. 2 player on the list is graded 10 points below Bowers’ impressive 90.6 rating. Defensive tackle Jonah Laulu earned playing time on Friday and rewarded his coaches with three tackles and a pass breakup. He helped the Raiders’ strong run defense on Friday.

Three more players on offense — quarterback Aidan O’Connell, running back Sincere McCormick, and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers — complete the list this week.  That’s no surprise, as the Raiders offense outgained the Chiefs offense by a healthy margin, 434 to 329.

But at some point, it would be nice for the Raiders to earn grades from PFF after a victory. Las Vegas has lost eight straight, and coach Antonio Pierce probably has to win a game or two to save his job, regardless of how hard his team plays on gameday. They’ll try for a win aginst Tampa Bay in Week 14.

Raiders send 2 starters to injured reserve, add 4 to active roster Week 13 vs Chiefs

Raiders made several moves including sending Gardner Minshew and Jakorian Bennett to IR and adding four others to face the Chiefs Week 13.

Early Thanksgiving Day, the Raiders took care of quite a bit of business. First they sent starting quarterback Gardner Minshew along with starting cornerback Jakorian Bennett to injured reserve.

Minshew broke his collarbone late in the team loss to the Denver Broncos last week. His season is done.

Bennett suffered a shoulder injury on the second play of the team’s game in Miami in week 11 and missed the Broncos game last week. He will be out at least the next four weeks which means should he return this season, he would be eligible to play the final two games of the season.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders officially activated QB Aidan O’Connell from injured reserve and signed practice squad WR Terrace Marshall to the active roster.

O’Connell will start vs the Chiefs on Friday, He had been out the past four games with an injured thumb. While Marshall has been on the team’s practice squad since October 22, appearing in one game this season so far.

Additionally, the Raiders elevated CB Kyu Blu Kelly and RB Sincere McCormick from the practice squad. McCormick in particular played well enough last week against the Broncos to earn more snaps this week.
