Seahawks work out two free agent cornerbacks and a tight end

These are the three players who worked out for Seattle on Tuesday.

The Seahawks got a look at a few free agents today, with a clear eye on potentially adding more size to their beleaguered cornerback room.

These are the three players who worked out for Seattle on Tuesday.

CB Josh Shaw: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds

Shaw is the most experienced of the bunch. The Bengals selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft. He’s appeared in 55 career games, posting one interception and seven passes defensed. Shaw allowed a 113.7 passer rating last season, playing four games each for the Chiefs and Bucs.

CB Simeon Thomas: 6-foot-3, 197 pounds

Thomas was a sixth-round pick by the Browns back in 2018. He has previously spent time on the Seahawks’ practice squad after they claimed him off waivers from Cleveland. He’s played 12 games – all for Washington – totaling eight tackles in limited action.

TE Ryan Izzo: 6-foot-5, 225 pounds

The Patriots picked Izzo in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. He’s caught 19 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown in 18 games. Seattle’s interest could mean Colby Parkinson (foot) will be out for a while longer.

WR Laquon Treadwell, 3 others trying out for Jags as mandatory minicamp starts

The Jags have brought in four players to try out as they start minicamp, including Vikings former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell.

Mandatory minicamp kicked off for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday. With that, they decided to bring in four tryout players, including receiver Laquon Treadwell, a former first-round selection for the Minnesota Vikings.

Also joining Treadwell as tryout players were cornerbacks Simeon Thomas and KeiVarae Russell, as well as offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins.

After being drafted out of Ole Miss, Treadwell spent four seasons with the Vikings (2016-19). While there he was able to accumulate 65 catches for 701 yards, and two touchdowns.

Afterward, he spent a season with the Atlanta Falcons but was only able to accumulate six catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns after spending most of his time there on the team’s practice squad.

Thomas, who was drafted in 2018 by the Cleveland Browns (pick No. 188), last played for the Washington Football Team (2019-20). He participated in a total of 12 games with them and accumulated eight tackles. He also spent time on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad in 2018.

Russell is a journeyman who has been in the league since 2016 as he was a third-round pick for Kansas City. Afterward, he made numerous stops, playing for the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers (practice squad only), New York Giants, and most recently the Green Bay Packers (2020).

While with the Packers, he started things off on practice squad, but was promoted to the game-day roster Week 10 against the Jags and reverted to practice squad the following week. He also appeared in both of Green Bay’s postseason games last season.

Hawkins, who plays offensive tackle, was drafted by the Steelers in 2016 (pick No. 123) and remained with the team until 2018. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Bucs and Houston Texans afterward (during the offseason). In September of last season, the Texans put him on their practice squad, and the Steelers eventually signed him from the unit. He comes to Jags minicamp with 19 appearances and a start to his name.

Redskins CB Simeon Thomas suspended for violating substance abuse policy

The Redskins corner will miss the rest of the season.

Washington Redskins cornerback Simeon Thomas has been suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Thomas heads to the reserve/suspended list after one of his better games of the season right as the Redskins go into a full-blown youth movement in the secondary.

A sixth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2018, the Redskins had added Thomas in Septemeber but mostly kept him confined to special teams until recent weeks.

The Redskins had already announced a veteran like Josh Norman will remain on the bench, which meant the last handful of games would’ve been a big long-term opportunity for a player like Thomas.

The Redskins made the move official Tuesday amid a flurry of other moves.
