Top five worst draft picks made in Philadelphia 76ers history

Here are the top five worst draft picks made in the long history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now that the Philadelphia 76ers officially have a selection in the 2022 NBA draft thanks to the Brooklyn Nets deferring the pick acquired in the James Harden trade to 2023, now is the time to look back at some draft history in Philadelphia.

Every team has some draft busts in their franchise’s history. There is just so much hope and potential for every draftee to succeed and become the player they’re expected to be, but sometimes it just does not happen.

The Sixers are no different as they have made a few draft picks that just did not work out and we’re here to rank the top five worst picks this team has made. With that being said, let’s get into the list:

Draft Rewind: Sixers draft Sharone Wright number 6 overall in 1994

The ’90s decade was not kind to the Philadelphia 76ers. They were looking to find the next piece to lead them back into relevancy, but they had been swinging and missing on a lot of their moves.

After finishing 25-57 in the 1993-94 season, they entered the 1994 NBA Draft with the 6th overall pick. With that selection, they rolled with Sharone Wright out of Clemson as they were hoping that he could be the one to help lead them out of the doldrums.

Instead, he had a tough time finding his footing as he averaged 11.1 points during his brief time in Philadelphia, but he averaged only 6.2 rebounds and the Sixers wanted more toughness at the position. He was then flipped to the Toronto Raptors midway through his second season for Tony Massenburg and Ed Pinckney.

Wright averaged 7.5 points and 3.2 rebounds during his time in Toronto before retiring in 1998. He averaged 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds for his career and he was drafted ahead of future All-Star Eddie Jones as well as solid players like Jalen Rose and Brian Grant.
