The 2021 NBA draft is just more than a month away and two former Auburn stars are waiting to find out where they will be starting their professional careers.

In the latest mock draft by Bleacher Report, both Sharife Cooper and JT are predicted as first-round picks with the former moving up a few spots from the last.

Cooper, who played just 12 games last season as a freshman due to eligibility and injury issues, is slotted at the No. 19 spot and going to the New York Knicks who made the playoffs for the first time since 2013 this past season. Former Auburn point guard Jared Harper was on the Knicks’ roster for a part of this season after making waves in the G League.

As for Thor, the freshman is predicted to go just five spots later with the No. 24 pick to the Houston Rockets who own the pick via the Milwaukee Bucks.

If both Cooper and Thor are selected in the first 32 picks, it will be the first time that two Auburn players have been selected in the first round of a NBA draft in program history.

The draft begins on Thursday, July 29.

LOOK: Sharife Cooper has high school number retired

Former Auburn star Sharife Cooper had his high school jersey retired over the weekend.

With the amount of talent coming out of McEachern High School in Georgia, they might run out of numbers to retire.

That didn’t stop the school from putting former Auburn point guard Sharife Cooper’s jersey up in the rafters.

Cooper followed in the footsteps of former Auburn and current Cleveland Cavaliers forward Isaac Okoro in five-star players to come out of the high school. After one season at Auburn, Cooper is expected to go in the first round of the upcoming NBA draft.

One and done! Sharife Cooper officially declares for NBA draft

Auburn star freshman point guard Sharife Cooper has officially declared for the NBA draft.

Sharife Cooper’s days in an Auburn uniform didn’t last long.

On Friday, the Auburn freshman point guard officially declared for the 2021 NBA draft, foregoing his eligibility.

“This past year has been nothing short of special – one of the best years of my life coming here to Auburn and being embraced by something that’s bigger than me. It’s hard to imagine what it was like when I was in high school when I wasn’t here yet, but I always couldn’t wait to get here. Being here and being embraced by Auburn and the community is something that I’ll live with forever. Through thick and thin, Auburn and my family have had my back, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. In times like this, I like to reminisce and just thank the people that have been there since the beginning.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God. Without him, none of this is possible. I’m just so thankful for people like my mother. She’s been there every step of the way and at every game. I can’t remember a game that she’s missed, whether it was watching it or being there. My dad – it’s hard to pinpoint one thing that I could thank him for. Just being there, being him, the person he is, I couldn’t be more thankful for having someone like that in my life. My brother and my sisters – Te’a, Mia, Omar – I couldn’t be more thankful for them. They’re my rock. To the Auburn staff – Coach Pearl, Coach Bowman, Coach Flanigan, Coach Steven Pearl, Coach Davis and the rest of the staff – they’ve helped me tremendously just getting better, getting stronger and becoming a better player and a better version of myself on the court and off the court. To know in the back of your head that Auburn has your back is a feeling that I can’t explain.

“It was a tough decision, a hard decision, but with that being said, I would like to declare for the 2021 NBA Draft and hire an agent. I’m forever grateful to be a part of the Auburn Family. If I had to make the decision a million more times, I’d pick Auburn every time. War Eagle.”

In 12 games for Auburn, Cooper averaged 20.2 points and 8.1 assists per game.

We’re very excited for Sharife,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said. “While he may have signed his National Letter of Intent in November of 2019 and only played in 12 games, he was an Auburn Tiger way before that. Players that came before him like Isaac Okoro, Devan Cambridge and Babatunde Akingbola knew full well that Sharife wanted to follow in the footsteps of some of our great point guards.

“His character and his hard work clearly shined through his lone season with us. After missing 72 days of practice, he started his first game against Alabama and put up 26 points and nine assists to help us take the would-be SEC champions down to the wire. He is a once in a generation point guard who has an uncanny ability to score and help others score. I’m proud of him, and he’ll always be an Auburn Tiger.”

Sharife Cooper will spend just one season on the Plains.

Per Adam Zagoria, the Auburn star freshman is expected to enter the 2021 NBA draft after a season with the Tigers in which he missed the first 11 games due to eligibility reasons and last five because of an injury.

Cooper, a five-star recruit in the 2020 class, averaged 20.2 points, 8.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds for Auburn during the 2020-21 season. He is expected to be selected as high as a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.

Sharife Cooper has a difficult decision facing him as the Auburn point guard decides whether to enter the NBA draft or return to the Plains for his sophomore season.

While signs point toward him going the pro route, the idea of having him back along with all the talent returning for the Tigers next season is fun to think about.

The NBA experts at Hoops Hype currently have Cooper down a bit in draft status compare to other analysts as they have the 6-foot-1 guard going in the 23rd spot.

Cooper’s freshman season was interrupted twice as he missed the first 11 games due to eligibility issues and then the final four games of the season due to an ankle injury. In between, he was the leader of the Tigers’ offense by averaging 20.2 points and 8.1 assists per game.

Auburn fans that want to see Sharife Cooper stay around for another season on the Plains should look away now.

The star freshman point guard has risen up ESPN’s NBA draft stock in the last week or two and is at No. 9 in their latest mock draft.

Through nine games with the Tigers, Cooper is averaging 20.3 points, 8.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, the first two categories leading the Tigers in that time span.

Thought to be the next one-and-done for Bruce Pearl, Cooper had to sit out the first 11 games of the season due to eligibility issues. He made his debut on Jan. 9 against Alabama. Cooper has recorded three double-doubles including this past Saturday against Ole Miss when he scored 15 points and had 14 assists in the Tigers’ overtime loss.

‘Baby Come Back’: A playlist asking Sharife Cooper to return for another season

Auburn guard Sharife Cooper is a talent that we hardly ever see and Shea Brennaman made him a playlist to ask him to stay for 2021-22.

Sharife Cooper deserves the world. He has single-handedly changed Auburn’s level of play and is hands-down the best freshman player in the country. Through seven games he’s averaging eight assists, five rebounds, and 21 points per game. NBA scouts are drooling over him with many mock drafts projecting him to be selected late in the lottery round.

Like every other Auburn fan I want Sharife Cooper to return next year because think of the insane possibilities. The talent coming in + the talent already on the floor = making another deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Last season we were robbed of seeing Isaac Okoro in postseason fashion and, so far this season, we have been robbed of seeing Sharife Cooper play alongside Justin Powell. Powell has been sidelined since sustaining a concussion against Texas A&M in early January whereas Cooper was not eligible to play until a week later.

In summary, I just want Sharife Cooper to have a full season playing with his friends and in an effort to convince him to return I have prepared him a playlist of songs that show him how much Auburn fans love him.
