D’Angelo Russell puts Kevin Durant vs. Hall of Famer for last spot on his all-time starting five

Former Brooklyn Nets guard D’Angelo Russell joined the trend of sharing his all-time starting five. Does Kevin Durant make the final cut?

With everyone in and around the NBA stuck in isolation like the rest of the United States as the nation battles the novel coronavirus, one trend that players have taken part in is sharing their all-time starting five. Of course, Michael Jordan is featured in most, if not all lineups. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are typically featured, as well. But then there’s room for variation — though, most players haven’t included those who had their most prominent days in the 1980s or before.

One of the more controversial lists was Trae Young’s. The Atlanta Hawks guard included Steve Nash, who’s a great, but not someone usually considered among the five best of all time.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell’s list wasn’t nearly as controversial as Young’s, but he did have a tough time ironing out the final spot. The ex-Brooklyn Nets guard included Jordan, Bryant, James and Stephen Curry, then he narrowed the last spot down to Nets forward Kevin Durant and Shaquille O’Neal:

Maybe Durant can help the ex-Net decide on that last spot once he’s cleared for game action.
